Need advice...Georgetown or Columbia??

Hello,

I am trying to decide between attending either Georgetown or Columbia's post-bacc premed program (the ones for students who still need the basic science courses). Any advice would be most helpful...I hear some good/negative things about Columbia but havent heard much about Georgetown's PBPM program.

I'd appreciate any help!

How was the advising? Are you in medical school now? How large is the program and is it relatively easy to get into the advanced science courses? What about living, as I have never been to the area...including how expensive it is...i do have a car so i could live a little ways off campus, but only if on campus parking is available.

Any advice along these lines would be great!

Advising - I never had any problems here, but from what I've read on SDN, other programs offer more advising. FWIW I never had any problems whatsoever meeting w/ my professors, academic advisers, or anyone else on the faculty or staff, and I usually got good advice. If you're looking for someone to hold your hand through everything, though, this is the wrong place to be.

The PBPM program typically has around 40-50 students in it at any given time, but it's a pretty self-paced program. You'll meet people who are going through all the basic sciences in one year, some who spread it out over two, etc. As long as you meet the pre-requisites for advances classes, it's not a problem to enroll. Technically you will have to wait until the regular undergrad enrollment period is over, but I've never heard of anyone getting shut out of a class because it was full.

If you've never lived around D.C. or any other big city, you'll probably be shocked by the rent. That's to be expected; otherwise, living around here isn't so bad and D.C. has a lot to offer.

Oh, and I will be going to medical school in the fall. Haven't picked which one yet; out of five acceptances I've narrowed it down to two.
