So i'm kind of freaking out because i'm really nervous about possibly getting another c. I have around a 3.5 science gpa (without the possible c) and i'm currently a sophomore and plan to apply junior year. Do i even have a chance of getting in with 2 c's in science courses and 1 c in non science? Or should i just keep trying for all A's in my sciences course in the fall. My advisor said that i should not retake the course because its just going to average out anyway. any advice could help. Also some advice for what i should aim for on my DAT would be great too. thanks:hurting:

go for it all 100%. I wouldnt retake any. As for the DAT, aim as high as you can! Study your buns off. Honestly, if you apply early and broadly, no one can tell you what's good enough for an acceptance except the admissions committee. It's more than just your GPA and DAT score that matters. It's the entire picture of YOU as a person and how you will fit in (volunteer hours, interview skills, etc.) Good luck! HTH!

I think I had 2 Cs? I had 9 Ws too lol, one of those a WF. Just got in this cycle. oGPA and sGPA were both around 3.5, DAT was a 20.

I think I had 5-8 C's. My GPA was around a 3.3, DAT was a 19. Though my E.C.'s were through the roof and I was accepted my first cycle. Just keep working hard and you'll get accepted. Do things to make yourself stand out from the crowd. Dental schools don't care so much about accepting students with 4.0 gpa's as they do accepting students who will make great dentists. Someone with a 4.0 might have great grades and zero people skills, ya just never know.

that's such bull****.

You got rewarded for dropping classes that you knew you were doing bad in and the person that stuck with it, didn't quit, and got the C gets punished. Really shows how the system isn't always getting the best people.

do you mind me asking where you were accepted?

Lol how do you even know that I didn't have some sort of extenuating circumstance? I use to worry about all my Ws, even asking people on these forums about what my chances were, explaining what has been happening these past couple years, wondering if I even had a shot.

**** man, maybe schools sometimes just ****in get that you got other things going on in your lives too other than school.

Just destroy the DAT (score dependent on what you're looking for but a 21+ AA/TS is pretty nice), get your shadowing and EC hours, write a touching but not schmaltzy PS, line up your LORs based on the schools you are applying to, make sure those get in on time, submit in early June, check out the SDN interview feedback prior to your interviews, get enough sleep as consistently as possible, and everything will sort itself out.

Personally, I had one F, a D+, a D, some Cs and a semester of Ws from a year in which I had rather unfortunate circumstances. A few Cs won't kill you. I even had a 15 on the PAT, my LORs all came in late July/mid August even though I'd asked a few times starting from the December prior to the June I was applying, I even applied to a few more schools in December. I heard back in 2 weeks from those schools even though my application was so late.

There are so many little, weenie mistakes you can make that can add up, setbacks beyond your control, or even major deleterious life events that make you think you've ruined everything. Generally speaking, I think you can often make up for them with something else. I know some of the dental schools practice holistic admissions and some like a reinvention or redemption narrative. In the grand scheme of things, 2 or 3 Cs won't destroy your application. Chill out, get your 7-9 hours of sleep, and treat yo self once in a while.
