I know these threads get thrown around all the time, but I appreciate any advice. I recently graduated undergrad with a degree in Bio. I have a 2.75 overall GPA with a similar science GPA. I'm planning on taking the DAT in a month from now. I know my chances are low in getting into a dental program, but I wanted to know if have any options in improving my chances. Thanks in advance for any advice

Generally, for ever 0.1 points you are below a 3.5, you need to score 1 higher than the average matriculant's DAT score (19)

GPA - DAT
3.5 - 20
3.4 - 21
3.3 - 22
3.2 - 23
3.1 - 24
3.0 - 25
2.9 - 26
2.8 - 27

This is a rule-of-thumb, but it illustrates what you are up against. Only about 3-4% of DAT takers score a 23 each year. So, from 14,000 test takers, maybe less than 500 will earn a 23. Only a handful will score in the 26+ range (the score you hypothetically need to be competitive).

You will want to strongly consider a post-bacc/Master's program given your 2.75 gpa.

Post-Bacc. GPA’s too low...even with a 23 (minimum) on the DAT.

@Cello, fyi, the national average for matriculates now is like a 3.6 overall and a 20.5aa.

Is there any specific master's program that would be preferred by admission committees?

I know nothing about programs except for the one at our school (MWU-AZ). We take I believe ~15-16 students each year from our own Master's program. That said, the Master's program has like 110 students in it, but some are gunning for dental while others are aiming for medical school. My partner did the Master's program. He says that around 40 get an interview.
