Hi everyone! I need some advices. Up to this point, I haven't turned in my application to AADSAS yet because I haven't done my personal statement. Hopefully, I can turn it in the end of July. I intend to apply to 21 dental schools. Here is the list:
Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health (AZ)AZ12/01/2008 Case School of Dental Medicine (CWR)OH01/01/2009 Columbia University College of Dental Medicine (CUL)NY01/16/2009 Loma Linda University (LLU)CA12/01/2008 Marquette University (MQT)WI02/01/2009 New York University (NYU)NY02/01/2009 Nova Southeastern University (NSU)FL12/15/2008 Stony Brook University (SUSB)NY01/15/2009 The Maurice H. Kornberg School of Dentistry, Temple University (TEMP)PA02/01/2009 University of California, San Francisco (UCSF)CA10/15/2008 University of Colorado (COL)CO01/01/2009 University of Detroit Mercy (UDM)MI02/01/2009 University of Illinois at Chicago (ILL)IL12/01/2008 University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (NJDS)NJ12/01/2008 University of Michigan (MICH)MI12/01/2008 University of Nebraska (NEB)NE02/01/2009 University of Pittsburgh (PITT)PA12/01/2008 University of Southern California (USC)CA02/01/2009 University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry (UOP)CA12/01/2008 Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU)VA11/01/2008 Western University of Health Sciences (WESTU)CA01/15/2009 Number of Designations: 21
I completed most of my pre-requisite courses at commnity college and earn my Biology B.S at UCLA. My DAT score are : 19/20/19. I worked as a dental assistant for 9 months. My cum GPA is 3.42 and Science GPA are 3.35. I am not sure how AADSAS will calculate the GPA but mine was a combine of CC and UCLA grades. English is not my native language but I am a U.S citizen, therefore; I avoid to apply those schools that requires TOEFL test.
So my concern is do I still have a shot this year? or should I just apply to a few schools like 5 in California since I am a Cal residents and wait until the next cycle? because applying is expensive, so I need to consider it carefully. I know that at the end, I am the one who make the dicision, but I just wonder if anyone have what to say.

I would be very appreciated for all of your inputs. Thanks!!!!!!

I agree with what you said about applying to less school. Because you don't have the greatest stat in the world (no offense), you probably don't have much chances at public universities like SUNY, Illinois, UMDNJ, Michigan, Nebraska and VCU. Do your research at schools that accept a lotta out-of-state students or that are completely unaffected by resident status.

yeah, I did research every single school that I intend to apply. I tried to eliminated those school that don't accept out of state students like Texas
