Can anyone tell me how or where they got their car rentals for their KCOM interview? I'm flying in late to the Kirksville and have been unable to book on-line. I checked Enterprise rental in Kirksville but they are closed at 6 PM and weekends.

My interview is on 10/22 but I'm arriving Oct. 21 around 7:30 PM and leaving early Oct. 23.

Thanks!

If I were you, I would contact the school and explain the situation to them. Perhaps they could have someone pick you up. They were extremely kind to my wife and me in helping us find a student to stay with. Maybe they'll help you!

I new I was not the only have this problem. I have an interview their on
the 28th and I do not get till kind of late on the 27th. I also called Enterprise and they told they could ot help me. I was told to call a Taxi, which may be ok, but I do not want to cruise in a taxi the whole time I am there, kind of expensive. I was going to calll the school, but I was unsure what to say so I don't sound rude. If you call them, please tell me if you have any luck.

Chadderdo, no offense dude, but I would recommend taking a crash course in Grammar and Communication 101 before any medical school interview...Are you for real?

Thanks for all your responses!

I called admissions, and they told me to take a taxi or call enterprise too. I checked their schedule, they are only open 8-6 pm. I fly in late.

I'm staying with a student host but did not want to inconvenience her too much. However, a nice 1st year has offered to give me a ride from the airport. On retrospect, it may have been easier to rent a car from St. Louis and drive there. I'll probably take a taxi to the airport since its at 6: 45 AM.

Chaderro, good luck!

I think the area will be much less scary if you fly into it. I drove up from St. Louis and there is nothing for the 90 miles south of Kirksville. It was somewhat scary for me to see that Kirksville was the largest town in a 60 or 70 mile radius; the "biggest" store was their Wal-Mart. I was also told that the "best" restaurant in town was Ponderosa. Eeeek.

...I guess that is the city coming out in me.

On a positive note, everyone at the school was very nice and the academics seemed great.

Yeah. I'd drive from STL. I don't even know if the airport is open right now. The feds just came in to begin the investigation. We're all worried that we know someone who was on that plane...no names have been released yet. 🙁

MSNBC said that Columbia said the director of the pediatric's emergency department was on the plane (I believe) (do an MSNBC search for Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine)... KCOM made it onto the NBC news tonight because of it... very very sad...

"The airline and investigators declined to release the names of anyone on board. But some family members and employers identified a few passengers.

In New York, the office of Dr. Steve Z. Miller, director of pediatric emergency medicine at the Columbia University medical school, said he was among those aboard the craft." (from the above post's link)

Reportedly a former instructor at KCOM and his assistant were the only two who survived. Two doctors from New York, and ?atleast one? photographer were on also on board. 🙁 🙁 🙁

Yes, the flights were cancelled. I ended up renting a car and cancelling my tickets from St. Louis to Kirksville. The drive was about 3.5 hours.

All in all, the interview went very smoothly. The school held a memorial for the lives lost with candles and pictures.
