Won't need 25 schools unless you blow the interview. Ohio university should take you. They're instate bias, have a lower mcat average than your score, and they just increased enrollment with the new campus.

I won't blow the interview, in fact I think I will interview well. I just want to apply very broadly to make sure I have options. I only want to do this once. Can you suggest some other schools?

I would prefer to be in the northeast/new england if that helps.

Even though you want to stay in the northeast I would apply to safety schools just incase. I don't think you'll need it but apply to LMU, ACOM, LECOM Bradenton, all 3 VCOMS. Then of course apply to the New York schools

Wait there are 3 VCOMS???

I haven't calculated it but it's sub 3.0 I know that much. My overall GPA including grad is ~ 3.1

I hate to be Debby Downer, but if no one else is going to be realistic here...

A 3.0 cGPA and sub 3.0 science GPA. Even with a 30 MCAT, does the OP have a shot at any school?

Was your grad degree in a science field?

Have you considered retaking a few classes?

No you aren't being a debby downer at all. It's good to be realistic and skeptical. My undergrad is 5 years old. I did a special masters program that I just finished with 4.0 while also working part time in a highly clinical environment. I spoke with a lot of people before going this route and everyone kept telling me that there is no point in going backwards. I mean, you can't really bring up an uGPA after 180 credits. You would have to take like 100 credits at 4.0 to make a significant difference. Something I also left out above is that I have a rather unique background. Im almost 30. I didn't go to high school because of a chronic illness. This may or may not make a difference, but I'm hoping that a school that looks at my full picture will see someone who is more than capable and who has some grit and determination to see this through. At this point, I wouldn't take anymore undergraduate classes unless I had an acceptance that was contingent upon completing one.

We're in a similar boat. My undergrad is 10 years old. I'm 35. I got a 4.0 in my Masters. I dropped out of high school. etc. etc.

Only difference is I've spent the past 4 years retaking undergraduate classes and trying to make up for all my faults. As everyone says on here, getting into med school is a marathon, not a sprint.

I just hate to see you spend a bunch of time and money applying, when with those stats, you're pretty much guaranteed not to get in anywhere.

Yes, the schools will look at the whole picture, and your MCAT score certainly proves your aptitude. But, with those GPAs, especially a sub-3.0 science GPA...it's pretty dark.

Not that it can't be done I suppose. People have gotten in with those kinds of stats before, but I'm sure they had one heck of a story to go along with their app.

I don't see it being impossible in that situation especially with a 4.0 in an SMP

They will get screened out of kcu but with a huge trend like that he stands a chance. He "matured". Nontraditional will only help their case

I guess we will find out! I'm trying to stay positive because at the moment there isn't anything I could do besides apply. Usually when I tell people my story they consider it "one heck of a story" but you never know. Also, that's cool to hear about another person who came back from not having completed high school. It seems to be extremely rare for us to make it this far. Have you talked to many others? The AMCAS application wouldn't even let me put it. I had to put a graduation year even though I dropped out my freshman year because I was so sick. I would love to see a statistic from the AAMC and from AACOMAS about the number of people with a GED that apply and are accepted.

I hope you are right! I mean, I know I am more than capable of being an excellent medical student and physician. I have legitimate experiences and evidence of that at this point. I know it's going to be an uphill battle but I'm trying to stay positive and see if anyone gives me a shot.

Hey you got me curious and I just calculated my sGPA. It's only for AACOMAs because of one grade replaced and it's the overall including grad school. The result is 3.04…. so I was wrong. It's still not great but it's not sub 3.0

Not sure how many with GEDs on here, but plenty of underdog and comeback stories.

I don't know how I missed the SMP, but yeah a 30 MCAT and a 4.0 in a SMP will go a long way.

In your situation there's just no real estimating your chances of acceptance since it's so unique.

I agree. It's a roll of the dice to a large extent. But…I'm trying to believe in myself because that's the only way I've gotten this far anyhow. I will let you know what happens for sure.

You'll get some love. I had a 3.19/3.1/30/4.0 post-bacc and had 4 interviews and 3 acceptances (so far).

Awesome!!! Care to share where? You can PM me if you don't want to publicly say. Just might be good to know which schools liked you.
