Hi all
I have got accepted at NYU. But i had an interview at Uconn and i have a feeling that i will get there
Now my question is, which of them is a better option. i have to be decided by this weekend .
When i went to Uconn for the interview most of the students said that they will be doing GPR or AEGD after graduation for private practice as they do not have much clinical requirement. Also the facilities looked old.At NYU most of them said that they will be joining that practice immediately.
The problem is i do not want to do GPR or AEGD after 3 yrs of course.
I am totally confused any suggestions will be helpful to make my decision.
thank you
tweety🙁

Hi Tweety..

I think we have all gone through this phase of indecision.. making up your mind and taking a stand on one of the most important decisions of your life can really make you lose sleep!

Here are my two cents: Like you, Im a newbie on the dental scene in the U.S. and whatever I know I've learnt from the forum. In the Dental forum, I've heard it being said time and time again that if you decide to just go into practice later it really doesn't matter which school you graduate from. So now you have to look at other factors: Is the cost an issue? Which city do I want to live in? Do I mind the NYU class size? Which college impressed me more during the interview?

I've been to NYU, I think it looked very nice, a lot of the facilities are being updated and the floors are being renovated. If you're definitely going to practice immediately after graduation, maybe you could lean more towards NYU, since you haven't heard from UConn yet.. or if finances permit, why don't you pay the NYU deposit, that will buy you more time. An acceptance in hand is worth a lot!

Maybe if you give us more of an insight on what you're looking for in a school, the members who have a more indepth knowledge of UConn and NYU will be more in a position to answer your questions..

Either way, good luck!!! 🙂

tweety,

Do you see specialty in your future?? If you're answer is yes, then that must be a big factor in your decision making. UConn is a very very very reputable school.

Also cost, UConn is probably cheaper than NYU. And living in Manhattan for 3 years must be wayyyy more expensive than living in Conn.

Do a search around the dental and predental forums to get insight on the schools.

Yeah, that's basically what I wanted to say, but didn't want to be too straight forward or get flamed. 🙂 Henna said it, not me.

Hi tahsa,meggs and Henna
Thanks a bunch for your advice. The assistant dean called me again and said me to get all my visa documents originals. He said so far you have been a good candidate we want to look at all originals.
I am really nervous as i am going tomorrow to the school again.
Thank you for giving me such a clear idea

I'll keep posted about what happens
tweety🙂

Hi Tweety.. I was under the impression that you did not get a clear indication of acceptance from UConn and were relying purely on chance.. Like Henna and Meggs said, UConn is definitely more reputed and if its postgrad you're aiming for then reputation definitely matters.

hehehe.. No one's going to flame you, Meggs 😛 But I must admit, that thought scares me too sometimes :scared: Good luck, Tweety, looking forward to seeing u in the acceptances thread for UConn. 🙂

I am planning to wait till I get my official letter to withdraw my application. I dont know if I am behaving too selfish. They told me it takes 1 to 2 weeks to send you the letter.😕 i dont know what to do.

You've waited this long, what's a couple more weeks ...
I am sure they'll send you the letter, but just try to make it a habit to not go by word of mouth.

I agreee. Wait for the letter.
