I am currently studying for the oat using the small kaplan oat question and answer book. I am having difficulty in the physics section which is surprising because the practice physic section that was sent by the testing program was so much easier 🙁 . Other sections were also more difficult than expected so i was wondering is the actual oat harder, easier, or the same as the kaplan oat question and answer.
Thanks

when i took it last year, it was similar however i didn't do too well on the section. i'm retaking it again and i'm using the same kaplan stuff that i used last time to study for it. in addition, my friend gave me an MCAT physic formula worksheet that kinda gives you a hint what to understand. if you want it, i can email it to you

lemonhead i would appreciated if you could email it to [email protected].
Also how did u do on the other sections and what were the materials you used to study. If you can, can you email me whatever you got for the oat because i could use all the help. I haven't taken the oat but I am really worried about doing poor on it. Also do you think using kaplan oat question and answers book and mcat kaplan is all I need.

Thanks a lot 🙂

Hi. I just discovered these disscussion boards..what a genius idea. Anywayz, the reason I came upon this was because I have been struggling with the physics section of the oat and I am taking it in 10 days-scary. I was hoping you wouldn't mind emailing me a copy of that physics sheet. It would help me out so much and I would truly appreciate it. My email is [email protected]. Thanks so much!! 🙂

Just a thought.............................

Alot of SDNers post info so others can use their resources. If possible you could provide a link in a post to the sheet. I am sure many other people would be interested in it (Like Me).

I used the Kaplan Physics Equations Sheet, but found it lacking some of the most important equations. My brother in law, however, sent me a link to the AP Physics page for high school students.

http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/ap/physics_b/info.html?physicsb

They get several pages of equations and conversion factors in the front of their test, which I found extremely helpful. Hope this helps.

Just a thought to those of you who are interested...

The ExamKrackers book on Physics is supposed to be very helpful. Yes, I know, ExamKrackers is written for the MCAT, but physics is physics, whether you are an MD or an OD. I don't think the Physics book by itself is very expensive, probably less than $50, and it gets RAVE reviews in the MCAT threads. I took the OAT last year, and luckily had finished taking the entire year of physics condensed into one summer a mere two weeks before the actual test. My husband is planning on taking the OAT this summer, and we just purchased the complete ExamKrackers 6th Edition Study Set on Amazon for $115 w/ shipping. He is an Electrical Engineer so obviously the biological sciences are new to him! Obviously... this method is way cheaper than the Kaplan course!

Just thought I would share the info... please note... I DON'T work for ExamKrackers! (Kind of sounds that way...)

Physics is kicking my butt!!

Well....actually, am about to go CUNY for post-bacc, so I am trying to briefly learn some physics before I take it so I won't fall behind.

I bought the book, "PHYSICS: Success in 20 Minutes a Day"....when actually is like 20 hours a day...lol. It is just not explaining physics well enough for me because I am a "why? why?" person, if you know what I mean.

Does anyone on here know a website that explains and breakdowns the formulas concepts of physics for dummies like me?...lol.

For example, I am having trouble with newton's mechanics, especially, calculating free-bodies dealing with tension and pulleys. WHAT IS THE FORMULA FOR TENSION?!!!...lol.

Please....help.....me....

for a basic overview of physics, try www.sparknotes.com i used it and it helped. as for tension, the formula itself is like force. F=ma.. T=ma (it also depends on how this tension is being used cause you might have to incorporate trig functions also) good luck

Lemonhead, Thanks so much!

Sparknotes.com, is really given me a better grasp of the concepts and formulas of physics!!!

Again thanks a lot!!

I also had problems with physics.... what i did is that i read over the physics chapter in the OAT kaplan that i got from a friend and did the OAT AChiever tests.. they both helped me alot.. also.. understand the concept behind the formulas and not only memorize, for example if you add a resistor what would happen to the current.. know the pendullum stuff, pressure,.. the optics -know when imgae or objext are real or virtual, invered, erect..etc.. and if you took the OAT acheiver or Topscore and got low score on the physics section, dont panic... i used to get around 230-260! but on the actual test i got 320..
the questions on the actual OAT are pretty straight forward.. so if u know the formulas and understand their concepts, you should be fine, also take a look at the ADA site, it tells you what topics you should know for the OAT.. good luck =)
