Looking at the results of CBT 9, I noticed that a 10 on BS puts me in the 55.5-75.9 percentile. Typically I think of a 10 as an acceptable to pretty good section score, but seeing that half to three-quarters of test takers get a 10 in BS is very discouraging to me. Gotta get that score way up now!

How is this motivational? 😕

Well, I guess you're right.

It's only motivational if you consider yourself to be more intelligent than 75% of the MCAT-taking population. Further, it's only motivational if being average isn't good enough for you 👍

I think your definition of motivation isn't the same as mine.

I guess so. I can see how some people are discouraged by the fact that a 10 is hard to get, yet the majority of people get at least a 10. I just look at it from the other end. If the 75th percentile is getting a 10, and I think of myself as being in at least the 85-90th pecentile, I am capable of doing better than a 10.

I get what your saying but it sounds more like you're whining rather than motivating anyone

I didn't mean to come off that way. I thought some people might share the same opinion as I do regarding motivation.

I'm happy when I get a 12 or higher on a section, and moderately pleased by a 10 or 11. This was the first time I did an AAMC CBT and had a chance to see the estimated percentile ranges for 12, 11, and 10. It's nice that a 12 is ~90%, but I've been hoping to get a 13+ on the real thing. The fact that 13+ are reserved for probably 98+ percentile test takers is pretty discouraging to me because it indicates that very very few people actually get a 13 or higher. Obviously it's no secret that a 13+ is a great sectional score, but the fact that only 2-3% of test takers get it is even more discouraging to me.

I guess it's backwards to some people

Don't let it discourage you, the people who get those scores are just people like you. Put in the hard work and you'll get there man 👍

As motivation, I tell myself that Jessica Alba with marry me and or sleep with me if I get a 15 in BS.

The tough part is actually convicing myself that this will happen 😕

I got a 15 and can say that it WILL happen. It'll be the best thing you've ever done 😀
