First of all, I am a senior in highschool getting ready to go to college. My goals in the future are pretty much to become a doctor, but my parents just talked to me about sending me to india to study there. They say i can become a doctor in 5 years and itl be quicker. I am now confused because people especially my friends have told me I will have to redo my studies once i come back here. Someone please help me. And yea what about the mcats? Will we have to take them once I come back here? and what are the disadvantages and advantages of studying there and coming back to be a doc. Thanks in advance

No, but you'll need to take the US board exams (ie USMLEs) to start plus more...

Vastly fewer options in terms of specialty and placement.

DONT miss out on your youth!! IT is very important. By going to India you will be missing out on college. Im not saying that you have to be some party animal and drink all kinds to have fun. But I was an RA (resident Assistant) and I recomend college if you want to be a socially apt doctor. It's a really important growing experience. ANother thing is that you will be taking lots biology courses that will prepare you for medical school (pre-med). If you go straight to India you will be taking physiology, cell biology, biochemistry, etc...without a bio background that means that when u come back to the states to take the USMLE you might not do as well. YOUre parents want u to go to India so you can be doctor by the time ur 22...which is great and all but once you come here everyone in residency will be 25-26 or so.....so again social problems will arise......live life to the fullest....dont take any short cuts....and enjoy ur youth!!! 🙂 🙂
