So this I am sure this is a common question, i just found this forum today and did some research on here but couldn't find exactly what i am looking for. I completely bombed high-school, i never took the sat or even planned on going to college. About 3 years later I realized i wanted to go to back to school. I was forced to go to Community college. I couldn't get in anywhere due to my HS grades. Anyway i have been at cc for a little while now and taken some basic fluff courses, english, full year of calculus and foreign language. This fall i was planning on starting the gen chem I-III, and bio I-III series. then trying to transfer to a pretty good 4 year. Someone told me i was out of luck for md schools since i started at cc and took alot of the pre reqs there. I have no choice, if i want to transfer i have to take these classes. Is this true the cc credits will hold me down? I looked at a few med schools and they say they accept them, but just because the accept them doesn't mean i will get in. Anyone in the same boat i am? Or have any advice? I could try and transfer to a smaller liberal arts schools this winter in my city with the classes i have but who knows if i would get in. And that schools isnt ranked nearly as high as the 4 year i would like to go to. And i dont really want to go there at all. Thanks

Yes, you can still get into medical school with community college classes. That's not an issue. Some of the doctors I worked with while I was Director of the UC Davis School of Medicine Postbaccalaureate Program had completed the first two years of their college educations at community colleges. Please don't let that stop you from applying to medical school.

As long as you maintain good grades, do well on the MCAT, and transfer into a university you will be fine. Many many people have done it.

Thank you for your responses. Do you think its best to just stick with my plan now. Take gen chem and bio and transfer. Or attempt to transfer to a smaller liberal arts school this coming winter?

Go where you will be happier. Worst case scenario you have to retake some prereqs at a 4 year.

As long as you do well in those classes, then continue to do well at the 4-year university it will not look bad at all. Also, along with a solid MCAT score.

I have a friend who did 2 years at a CC then 2 years at a university and is now going to a top 20 medical school. It is entirely possible, and if you work hard you can certainly do it.

I'm in the same boat. I'm also doing cc first. People always told me that I was going to have issues

I will have been at the cc longer than 2 years. It took me a little wile to get up to college level math and also wile working so I lately have been taking a full load. But it taking me longer than 2 years shouldn't cause any issues should it???

No it should not! You will be fine if you have a good GPA and MCAT.
