I was searching thru the forums and somebody had posted this question that was asked during UCSF interview as the "question of the day". Interviewees were asked to write a page and describe their aswers.
I have an interview there this monday. Please help. This might be my question.

Describe the judicial or legislative branch.

What do they actually mean by this question. What do they expect us to write?
Any advice. Please?

Where did you find that this was a question?? My question was really simple and they said they just wanted a writing sample to evaluate your ability to clearly express your thoughts in writing. That question seems absurd- the interview isn't an amer. gov. quiz...

If they asked me that question, I would smile, put the pen down, and say "I will be anticipating my rejection letter in 2 weeks".

I would totally be screwed on that question. Thanks for the heads up. Time to study Government.

How could someone go through 17 years of schooling and not know how to answer this in basic terms?😱

I wouldn't get too freaked out about those types of questions. I was before my interviews, but after going to three schools I think those types of questions are few and far between at dental schools. Maybe medical schools are more intense, but all of my interviews were very laid back. The most "difficult" question I was asked was: "please tell me your thoughts/reflections on 9/11 and the current situation in Iraq." Dentists are a cool group and are not out to get you. I wouldn't ignore those types of questions as you prepare for your interview, but I wouldn't get too worried either. There's no need to fear your interviews.

here is a guess from some old HS knowledge...doing this as if i was at the interview

Legislative makes the laws

Judical enforces the law

right or wrong???

I know thats general but its time for class

That is strange that this was asked. I know the answer I would give would be very very anti-Republican, but what if my interviewer was Republican....ewwww. I dont think partisan politics has a place in the interview....just my opinion.

If that's the case, you'd have to make sure this "very anti-Republican" response you offered would have to be well-reasoned and extremely logically sound. You're absolutely right that partisanism has no place in an interview, but that doesn't mean a politically charged question can't be asked and answered effectively, irrespective of the interviewer's and interviewee's political bents.
