Hello everyone, I have been incredibly worried and I could be overthinking but I'm having a dilemma, I am 71/124 credits into my degree and I only have a 3.3 cGPA. I have made mostly A's, a few B's, one C, one D and one F (both of which I will be retaking because my poor performance was based on personal struggles I had going on at the time). From the way my degree classes have been going so far I believe that I will continue to make A's in those however, I have the ochem sequence (the first semester of which is what I got that F and will be retaking) and the Physics sequence (I've always had an interest in physics so I think I might do well hopefully). I plan to attend tutoring sessions as much as possible when those classes come around and plan to take a gap year to study for the MCAT. Given this information, what advice would you give to me? Am I being dramatic? I just know how competitive med school is and I want to enhance my chances as much as possible however this has been difficult since I am from a poorer background and have no family connections to the medical field whatsoever and I don't want that to stop me from being the best I can be.

I mean, yeah, failing Orgo is kind of a big deal. It's not game over, but you need to strap in and get As or Bs in the rest of your science classes to offset that as much as possible. Aim for at least a 510 MCAT.

Would this still apply if the grade I receive when I retake it replaces the F? I do plan on studying a lot for the MCAT when get around to it and I plan on putting a lot more effort into the last couple prereqs I have so I'm hoping that this'll help get my GPA up to a better score

Your grade doesn't get replaced for AMCAS, they get averaged. So if you get an A it should average to a C. A lot better than an F but still not ideal. Regardless, much of your school list realistically should be DO unless you get like a 520 or something.

You should be fine for DO if you can do well for the rest of your UG time.
