I've always wanted to be a pediatrician, but recently realized that I would love to become a pharmacist instead. I've already been accepted into my top choice in colleges, and was planning on receiving my B.S. and then going to pharmacy school. Is this how it works? I've been hearing that I need to specifically attend a college of pharmacy before i can get the pharm.d. I want to make sure I have all my facts straight because I don't really have anyone around me to guide me or anything. Therefore help is VERY appreciated! Thanks in advance. 😕😕😕

If you're really diehard on becoming a pharmacist, you can become one in potentially 5-6 years...meaning you won't need a BS to get into pharmacy school (2 years of prerequisites in undergrad and 3-4 years in Pharm D. school). Although, a BS or BA is becoming very common nowadays because of the competitiveness to get into pharmacy school.

You have to apply to pharmacy school just like you would with medical school (and after you finish the prereqs at any college). Pharmacy and Medicine are professional programs and are thus separate from undergrad.

Search the forums and check out the FAQ sticky at the top of this forum for more details.
