I am soooo excited to have found this site. It literary brought tears on my eyes. I am a 34 year old female working on starting med school 2013. Everyone around me thinks im crazy. I have been in the engineering field since 1999. I am nervous and excited at the same time.

Well let me be the first to say hi!
*glares as everyone else*

Seriously though. Lots of good reading here. It's kept me up quite a few nights. I shouldn't be far behind you, actually, age wise. I think I'll finally be applying at 34-35 (I'm 25 now and a little wee bit behind...). Hang in there!

Welcome! This is a great forum. If you value your sanity, venture over to Pre-Allo only occasionally. :luck:

+1. Stick with the nontrads, we're more fun.

Welcome! I remember feeling the same way when I first started visiting SDN. Good luck to you in your med school path.

+2 for nontrads. We may be a little older, but we sure know how to throw a party.

Computer engineer over here. There is another website called Old Pre Meds that is also nontrad oriented. I don't go there, but you might find it useful.

I am thinking about going to their convention in orlando this june though 😎

Welcome! 😀

Similar age and application plans here.

slightly younger, but same plan as you 🙂 good luck!

Thank you very much for the warm welcome.

Welcome! I am a bit younger than you, I have worked as a business IT consultant for a few years. I hope to enter fall of 2013 as well!

Agreed. Though I learned that the hard way :slap:

Welcome! I'm newish, too, but I've already implemented several key things I learned here, which I wouldn't have known about otherwise, and it's making a huge difference in how I approach this road. I'm much more relaxed.

We're all a little crazy here in this forum.....welcome home!

I have a degree in music, a minor in psych, a minor in foreign language and I'm 2 courses shy of a degree in biological science. I have about 220 undergrad hours. I just like school. I'll be starting at WCU CoM in August. I'm 46 🙂

Good luck with your plans, you'll do just fine. There are many engineering concepts that will help you breeze through some physiology classes your peers will struggle with (respiratory mechanics, cardiovascular flow concepts...).

I'm also a former (mechanical) engineer that left the well-paying but boring career behind after 10 years and became a physician. Would do it again in a heartbeat.

*offers some mixed berry muffins* welcome 😀

This site is rather good for getting information and talking to people who have already been at your stage of this "journey". This site also introduced me to lolcats

Indeed. Three reasons why SDN is better than your premed advisor:
1. SDN information is more accurate
2. SDN information is more timely
3. SDN has better lolcats

Welcome to SDN! You will find lots of helpful information here. This is truly the best resource out there.

Good to see lots of former engineers in the house. Thank you for the warm welcome. I feel at home.

Not an engineer, far from it. A poli sci major and freelance writer. I am graduating from medical school next month, at the age of 34.

Was told numerous times I would never be accepted, if I did I might flunk out because I have children and they would distract me, etc--lots of doomsday predictions that never held water.

I begin a gas residency this summer🙂
