So I recently decided to take the leap and pursue my doctorate in physical therapy!!! Just to give a little bit of background on my self...
Undergrad: Vanderbilt, 2009, BA in Psychology and Spanish
Grad: UAB, 2011, MPH in Health Behavior (International Health and Global Studies)

I've looked at different schools and programs, costs, observation settings, etcs, but my biggest question is about prereqs. I trying to figure out how to go about taking them. I took one semester of Bio (D?) and Chem (F) in undergrad, and thats about as far as I got before I realized pre-med wasn't for me, so I'd be starting from scratch. I'm interested in applying for the 2012-2013 school year so I would have to fit about 6 classes in before May 2013, depending on the schools I apply to.

Anat & Phys 1
Anat & Phys 2
Chem 1
Chem 2
Physics 1
Physics 2
Bio (possibly)

I am starting my prereqs in the summer and plan to take them online because I plan to continue working full-time...my question is, are there certain classes I should take first so that the graces can be included in my application when I apply? I know some schools dont mind if you're in the process of taking classes when you apply, but I'd like to have the "most important" ones finished by the end of the year when I apply.

Thanks for your help!

I saw that you were thinking about taking some of these pre-reqs online, just watch out and make sure the PT schools you are looking at will accept that. Pretty much all of the pre-reqs have required labs, and that might not be an option if you take them online. Some schools also ask that the pre-reqs are for science majors... not just the general, basic courses.

As far as when to take classes, just check with your schools. Some will allow a few pre-reqs to be outstanding and still consider your application. Others will not consider your application as complete even if you are taking your last pre-req in the fall semester while your applying.

I think the "most important ones" may be the ones that give you the most difficulty, take those early so you have time to retake them if need be. For many of my friends that was chemistry, but it's really up to what makes you comfortable.

I hope this is helpful! 🙂

From my personal experience take Anatomy and Physiology I and II before taking bio unless it is a pre-reg to anatomy etc (if it is the intro bio) it is brutally hard mainly because the amount of information covered we went through 36 chapters in 16 weeks. I don't even want to imagine what that would be like in the summer. Make sure you look at the schools you want to apply and make sure they accept combined anatomy/physiology courses some require separate ones at a 4 year college. In my opinion take the anatomy and physiology first if you can along with the one chem class with each, then bio and physics. I work full time as well and take an avg of 18 credits/semester just make sure you put school as your number one priority and try to get the best grades you possibly can in the pre-reqs.

Ditto....AP first, schools will look at that as a predictor to how you will do w/ the DPT AP.

Seeing as Im really trying to squeeze all these classes in such a, relevatively, small time frame...do you all think it would be too much to take A&P 1 and 2 at the same time or do they build on each other?

I wouldn't suggest taking A&P 1&2 in the same semester. Your school may not even allow it either.
