What is the maximum heel height that would be recommended? I typically wear heels between 2.5 in (minimum) and 4 in (max). What would be the max height you'd recommend for an interview (assuming I get one)?

I really have no clue but from girl to girl I think it depends on your original height. For example I am average female height, so I'd say a nice 3" heel is the most common choice, but I wouldn't go higher... you don't want to seem like you're in stilettos! But it also depends on your original height

Good Luck!

Ha.. thanks. I'm very petite and need all the help I can get. You're right though, i don't want to look like I'm wearing stilettos. I just got some beautiful shoes today with a 3.5 inch heel. they were too big, so I have to send them back. I am so bummed.

When I went to UW's info session, they stressed wearing comfortable shoes. So if you're comfortable in three-inch heels, that's awesome, but if you're not, remember that they will see you limping during the campus tour!

I only wear stilletos, but you can't tell because I have short legs, so my pants always cover the heel. Crap, without the stilletos my pants would drag the ground.

I think if you're wearing a suit w/ pants, then it doesnt matter much b/c you wont be able to tell. With a skirt suit, I'd keep it conservative...maybe 2-4 inches. Also a substantial heel looks a little more professional than a stiletto. I saw a girl at one interview wearing really high pumps w/ a pencil skirt and jacket...she looked really cute, it was just kinda inappropriate.

I think whatever you do - make sure your shoes are not attracting unneeded inappropriate attention. Last semester I actually went to a seminar that covered this topic and it was suggested that your clothes/shoes should not distract people who are interviewing you. In other words - you are the package and you are there to show them what you are like and the clothes should be as professional as possible.

I'm a guy, but I can at least say that whatever you end up wearing should not be provocative. I'll leave it to you to discern what constitutes provocative.😉

Remember that you may have to stand as well as walk a lot during an interview, so be sure that whatever you wear will be comfortable for that. And, if you are comfortable with 4 inch heels standing up and walking for 4 hours, I hope you have a podiatrist on speed dial🙂

Just hope adcoms do not feel the same way as House MD...

"Only an incredibly shallow and insecure woman would rather be in pain all day then wear a decent looking, comfortable shoe, and that's exactly the type I don't need around here."

I took an interviewing class. When we discussed attire, we were told to wear kitten heels, especially with a skirt. Definitely no stillettos. I guess you could wear 3-inch heels with pants. Hope that helps. 🙂

Awesome.. I guess it's back to shoe shopping for me! that makes me excited! I have a thing for shoes! While I love 😍 my red patent kitten heels, I certainly wouldn't wear them in an interview. I'm actually wearing them today. 🙂

What about this shoe?
3 1/4 inch heel. not really stiletto.

Jesus, you could kill someone with those.

If you were going on a date, your date probably cares about how tall you are. However, you are going to a pharmacy school interview, and I don't think the pharmacy school cares how tall you are. I would wear as comfortable of shoes as possible. For example, I will probably go the ballet flats route.

I wore my most comfortable professional dress shoes, and I still came away with a blister!

Are you wearing a skirt?
I need to go shopping for a suit. What is better for girls? pant suit or skirt suit. I think the skirt suit is more feminine, and woudl prefer it over a pant suit bc im a really girly girl. But i dont want to look like im tryign to hard or anything lol. Any comments or suggestions?

I would consider the location of your interview and the time of year. Do you want to freeze in a skirt? I like the look of skirt suits too, but I don't know if I'd wear one in the middle of January. 🙂 Just a thought.

well i'd go out and buy a regular suit instead of a skirt... it's versatile and you can wear it to interviews everywhere on the continent... ie you can just take off the jacket and wear a fancy blouse if it gets really hot, or wear a sweater vest inside of it's really cold!

as for shoes, i was contemplating of wearing my fancy pointy heels versus ugly black shoes. I walked around three blocks by my house in my fancy pointy heels and i was about to cry!!! so i went w/ the ugly black flat shoes instead (even tho i'm very short... 5'2!) but i was sooo glad b/c we actually ended up walking everywhere and some other girls in my group were in pain! Wear sthing that makes you feel confident and power-bitchy haha like those people in NYC with their coffee in one hand and briefcase in another.

I bought a skirt suit today. I just like the look of it so much more than pants! I live in so cal and want to go to school in so cal. So weather won't be a big hindrance for me. I bought a black suit and bought a white collared shirt to go underneath. I heard you shoudl go conservative with colors. I wanted to get a pink collared shirt as that is my favorite color! White and black is so blah though. I should stick to conservative colors correct?Anyone that knows about interview attire? thank you!

I actually wore a pink shirt with a black skirt suit to my interview. It was a baby pink though; nothing that screamed "look at me!"

i wore a sky blue shirt + sky blue/silver tie with my black suit. (i'm a guy).

seriously...i highly doubt they'll reject you just because you wore colors. showing colors is a reflection of your personality (in my opinion)

Should we bring a bag if we are girls? And if so, how big?

so i guess red isn't a good idea? ...does it have to be a suit thing? can it be a blouse and pants?

Red typically isn't advisable for interviews. Suits are considered "professional attire" and are the most worn in interviews. Blouse and pants is considred to be "business casual" and mostly acceptable except in interviews and when meeting face to face with clients (at least that is what is in our corporate dress code policy).

I'm still having trouble finding a collared shirt/blouse to go underneath my pant suit. I have a white collared shirt but when I tried it on, I looked like a waiter....🙁

Any advice on color choices? Should I just stick with the white? My roomate was saying a dark red because it looks good on me, but as someone said above...its not really a professional color combo.

Any advice appreciated!!! And girls if you know of any comfy heels, let me know! Have to find those too.

How about a white blouse that has a stripey, shimmering pattern. That's what I just bought 😀 I just spent a small fortune on a suit. *sigh*

I love that shoe and that shoe is considered professional. I spoke to a couple of students that interviewed and they said most had on skirt suit sets.

Thanks tootoo, I love this shoe too! It's kind of expensive, but soooo beautiful. I actually ordered a different style in the same color/material but it was too big so I had to send it back. It is that tortoise shell color, so could be worn with brown or black. The picture actually doesn't do this shoe any justice. It's gotten a lot of good reviews.

Comfy heels: Rockport makes some comfy shoes. I have a loafer wedge with a 3 in. heel made by them and they are super comfy. I even spent a day shopping in them.

I think it's ok to choose a colored shirt to go underneath your pant suit. I love some of the things at Ann Taylor. I think red and black is a nice combo, but it's not a conservative color choice. I've interviewed a lot of people, and I've never seen red worn in an interview. Sticking with softer, muted colors is probably a better choice. IMO, this would look nice under a suit.

Hello, I was wondering if I could get some help on men attire.

I'm planning to buy my first suit. My question is what should I look for? Price ranges...

Navy or Grey
2 buttons, 3? 4?
Color of tie? (I heard some colors represents certain attributes in a person?)
Color of Shirt?
Shoes --> some professional dress, black shoes?
What type of suit am I looking for? I can't tell what is professional for the interview and what is for business outings.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

I wear suits daily for work. My fave shoes? Danskos. These are pragmatic and professional. These have a little more style.

Buy the best suit you can reasonably afford. High quality ones (Tahari, Ann Taylor) will last you and keep looking nice. Mid- quality suits (Penney's, Burlington's) will get you through a few interviews, but aren't going to hold up to daily wear.

Ann Taylor and Talbots are both good choices for looking for a blouse for your suit. I wear blue suit/cream blouse, brown suit/brown patterned shell, black suit/pink blouse, pinstripe suit/tan shell.

I had no idea that Dansko made dressy shoes! They're still all too big for me, but they're pretty nice. I totally agree about the highest quality suit you can afford. Ann Taylor's black suits are all made from the same material, so you can add to it later. That's a big concern if you want to get a new blazer but already have pants or a skirt - the materials MUST match. Since I'm petite, I pretty much stick with Ann Taylor or Banana Republic as they have really good petite lines. For shoes, I wear a 4.5 in most brands/designers, so I love, love, LOVE Zappos.com. They have free overnight shipping and returns, and the best customer service out there. (no Zappos is not my employer, but they probably appreciate me for keeping them in business!) 😀

I will do my best to help you. I really don't know how much men's suits really cost, though they are probably fairly comparable to women's.

I prefer 2 button suit (but can't say if it should be buttoned/unbuttoned in an interview - don't know the etiquette).

I like the look of charcoal gray suits. If you get navy, consider one with a pinstripe detail. You could wear black shoes with either a gray suit or a navy one. I talked my husband into getting some Rockport dress shoes, althouth Sketchers does make an OK dress shoe (they don't last long and my hubby said they're not very comfortable) but they are cheaper.

If you've never been fitted for a suit, I'd recommend going to either a Men's Wearhouse or Nordstrom (or similar department store) and the sales person can help you in the right direction. You don't necessarily have to buy the whole suit there, but I'd listen to their expertise.

Regarding ties. A tie can really express your personality. Most men like to pick out their own ties. Your interview tie shouldn't be too "loud" but I dont' think it necessarily has to be a solid color either.

This is a nice gray pinstripe suit at Banana Republic

From my quick research, it appears that Men's Wearhouse has the best prices on suits... Hopefully you have one relatively close to you.
