Which would you pick KCUMB or a brand new school like PNWU, (Yeah I meant LMU), etc? Do you think the benefits of a new school (tech, new equipment, curriculum made from the best of other schools, smaller classes, closer to home for PNWU) are great enough that you would skip an established school like KCUMB? Would you still pick KCUMB if its tuition was 10k more than the other schools, are the established rotations worth the extra dough? What would you say the positives and negatives of each type of school would be? I'd really appreciate responses to this because I've been racking my brain trying to make a decision and having others give me their own insights would really be helpful. I've made list of pros and cons but I'm still pretty much 50-50 and I'm hoping something that someone says will make me think of something I hadn't before. Thanks.

i dont think a 10k difference in tuition is enough to settle for a lesser school if that is the case.

for me, my state school is 16k and kcumb is over 40k, thats a difference worth seriously considering, but for a 10k diff shouldnt be too much of a factor in your decision.. look at other factors that matter to you.

DMU is old as dirt aren't they? or do you mean lincoln debusk? If thats the case, go for KCUMB.

DMU = second oldest osteopathic medical school (est. 1898)

It's not even a close choice in my humble opinion. Go with KCUMB. It's been around for 90 some years, being one of the original osteopathic medical schools, and has proven to produce excellent, hard-working physicians who match well in residency. Even if it is a bit more expensive, you are talking about your future here. You definitely want the school that has a 90+ % first-choice match rate. It's all about preparing you for residency and KCUMB has done that for it's students consistantly and well throughout time.

Choosing between the KNOWN and the UNKNOWN was a no brainer for me. I would have loved to go to school in Yakima, because my inlaws are all there and my parents are just a few hours away in Portland. If it was the only school that accepted me, I'd be at PWNU in a heartbeat. However, I was accepted to a number of other DO schools, including KCOM. Missouri is not anywhere near my favorite state, but it is where I'm headed. While an unknown (new) school might be great, I really don't like that "might" in there. I want to go somewhere with a solid reputation for academics, clinicals and residency matches. That was how I decided.

Oldest DO school in the country VS. brand spankin' new. No contest.
