On my screen after submitting it says "the application cannot be changed or accessed" after being submitted. That said, you can always switch it back to edit mode until Friday.

Deadline is this week. How is everybody doing?

I think I'm reading this wrong... but do our recommenders need to submit their letters before we could submit our application?

Nvm, I think I found my answer. I need to wait for them to complete their letters.

Does anyone have confirmation that the 500 word limit is okay? The guide says the essays " should be limited to a 500-word count or less" while the portal says they "should be limited to 2,500 characters or less in Times New Roman 12 font". Which one is it and does it matter if we don't follow the portal but are within the limits set by the guide?

I would not risk it; do whatever is the lower limit (probably 2,500 characters).

I know they extended their deadline, and my spring grades are being posted tomorrow on my transcript. Can anyone confirm which GPA they want to see -- a transcript including this semester or not including this semester? I tried calling but the lady on the phone sounded pretty unsure, and I don't think she entirely understood my situation

I don’t see why you wouldn’t include the transcript with this semester’s grades if you already have it

Tomorrow there is an NHSC Scholarship Application Online Q & A Session, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. ET for anyone with any final questions before the deadline this Friday.
where do we access it?

Well I uploaded all the documents just to realize that I didn't put the identifying labels with my name, discipline, etc on any of them so.. gotta resubmit. That's how it's going lmao

I apologized if someone has already answered this question, but since scholarships are being awarded in September, are they applicable to the year in which you apply? I am an incoming medical student, and I assume that tuition payments will be due before I’m notified of whether or not I receive the award?

You have it right, you’ll have to pay tuition however you planned to without the scholarship, and then if you get it they pay your school so the school can payback any loans or other scholarships you have.

Applied just now! Hoping to get this 🙂 Did TFA so hopefully that shows my commitment to underserved communities. *Fingers crossed
Congrats and good luck! I submitted today too! 🙂 did you get a confirmation email? I didn't receive one so I was a bit confused

Not really. I regret doing it. I could have done without it, but I was in a situation that I couldn’t get out of that required it.

Would you agree with your statement if you were leaving dental school with a $340k debt at around 7% interest? -That is not a sarcastic question, I am genuinely interested in your experience.

I submitted today as well and was surprised that I didn’t get an automatic email confirmation.

Anyone getting a message saying "you do not have the necessary security privileges to perform this action" when trying to log on?

I only got this message one time when I accidentally clicked an app other than the NHSC one

Did anyone get an error after submitting? I also pressed "View your submitted application" and got a pdf that doesn't open for some reason. No confirmation email for me either.

I also didn't get a confirmation email but the screen after I submitted said I had successfully submitted the app

I forgot the Name, Social security, and discipline on one of my forms, do you think that will disqualify me?

Idk if this has been answered already but, if we are offered the scholarship, do we get the years we requested funding for on the original application we just turned in, or do we have the option to decrease/increase the years of funding we want?

If one were to receive the scholarship, would it be wise to still take out like 5-10 grand of loans each year just in case the stipend isn't enough each month to care of living?

It used to be around $1300/month for me. That was enough to cover for my monthly expenses. If you're by yourself I'd recommend trying to be frugal anyway even with the scholarship just because nothing is worse than taking on student loan debt unless you absolutely have to.

I received the 3-year NHSC scholarship in 2015. Currently fulfilling my 3-year commitment, year 2 out of 3. Financially, it is probably one of the best moves you can do in dental school. Feel free to ask me any questions that you have regarding how it works.

I believe you can adjust when you sign the contract, but I didn’t try to, so I’m not 100% sure

Wise? No. Possible? Most likely. You will be capped in how much aid you can get (scholarship + loans) by what the school has set as their “cost of attendance.” You can not borrow above that without filing an appeal with your financial aid office.

Decisions will be released on 9/30? Or is 9/30 the latest? Because I noticed 5 people on the survey at the beg of this thread said that they’ve already gotten it.

That is at the latest, but they usually get pretty close to that deadline.

I was just looking through my app and going through all my submitted documents and just realized that one of my forms i put in a word document (authorization of release of information) somehow disappeared on the document so the page is blank except for my name ssn and discipline. How screwed am i? Can I somehow re-submit it?

They release the recipients in rounds. Last year it looks like the recipients ("finalists") were notified August 8th, 13th and 16th

Just had to withdraw my application. Got off a waitlist this week at a school I would much rather go to. Called the customer service line for the scholarship and was told nothing can be changed once the application was submitted. Will try again next year! Good luck to everyone!

Did you guys include name, discipline, last 4 digits of social on all supporting documents (including proof of citizenship, tuition + fee schedule, and transcript) or just the ones that we generate ourselves (CV, essays, authorization form)?
Well damn. I didn't know we had to do all that. I wonder if that disqualifies me. 🙁

Hi guys, I received a "a hard credit check" today from "US Dept of Edu" according to credit karma. I also accepted my dental school loan award from the university I am attending this summer. Anyone know if its possible that was NHSC doing a check on me or if it was just bc the loans? If anyone previously applied and had a check, do you know what it said when the checked out your credit? Thanks!!!

I think a credit check from US Department of Education would be related to your loans. I wish the NHSC process was faster though! 😉

I didn’t either but it wasn’t mentioned in the guide??? Was it?

Does anyone know if the NHSC scholarships are offered for 2 year increments?
