I'm applying to BU as an average/slightly below average pre-dent. Their prereqs include a year of math and formal knowledge of calculus. I only took one semester of college algebra. However, at my college, students with higher ACT scores are exempt from taking the prereqs before taking college algebra. So does that count as one year? Should I send the application fee to BU? I don't even really want to go to BU, but I'm sensing it and NYU are viewed as safe choices.

They accept a lot of applicants, but no school is safe. And, further, if you don't want to attend there then don't apply there.

THAT is a waste of money!

How would one semester of college algebra give you a "formal knowledge of calculus"? Or, for that matter, how would one semester of math be equal to a year of math? If you were to be accepted, it would probably be contingent upon you completing a semester of calculus before school started.

Amen! If you know that you don't want to attend a particular school for whatever reason and detest the idea of staying in that particular city you are much better off scratching it off of your list then spending the money interviewing there only to arrive at the same conclusion in December. Best of luck!
