I haven't taken the DAT yet (scheduled for end of october) and was curious what all of you thought my chances were. I'm pretty antsy cause I submitted late (end of august :/)

I know this is pretty difficult to do, especially since I don't have the DAT scores in... which are like... ermmm... a pretty big part of the app (yikes!)😱 but i'm a pretty good test taker and feel fairly confident about the exam.

Here goes nothing....
3.9 GPA
graduated magna cum laude
almost 2 years of research in an infectious disease lab
co-author on prestigious paper 🙂
1st author on a research poster
hundreds of hours of community service
150 hrs shadowing general dentist
bunches of TAing

here is the caveat though: ALL my prereqs were from CC - However, i did take a lot of upper level math classes because i initially thought I was going to be an engineer.

I applied to:
NYU
Marquette
USC & UCLA (family ties to CA)
U Maryland
Harvard (kinda felt a little awkward applying here since I come from a CC)
Columbia (^^ditto)
UF
LECOM
Nova
MWU Illinois
Case Western

First, what do you numerically believe/think you'll score on the DAT?

haha, but i honestly feel like i will do better than that. Not to sound arrogant, it's just because of my background in math, i find the PAT fun, and my entire undergrad was hardcore molecular biology.

really hard to say, but let's throw a 20-21 out there

Well how soon will you be taking your DAT? It's already the mid of September. If you take it now, schools may not receive it until the mid of October, which is very late into the cycle.

end of october :/

i know i'm super late, and i'm pretty bummed about it, but i'm hoping i'll at least get an interview somewhere.... i'm beginning to think i'm delusional...

If you think hardcore molecular bio is going to prepare you at all for what is basically a simple test of fun facts like xylem carries water then yes, you're delusional.

With a decent score you should get an interview except I don't understand your application choices. Are you going for an academic or clinical experience? You should apply to more schools considering how late your application is.

lol, point taken... i just meant that i'm no stranger to hardwork and memorization in the sciences.

I tried to pick schools that had later deadlines, and among those, I tried to pick those with PhD programs. The absolute dream for me is to do the DMD-DDS/PhD.

Like asking how stable is a table that is missing one leg.

The DAT is all that matters for you. Crush it, add a few schools and you'll have a shot.

do well on your DAT and you will get interviews. Might be post december, but you will get some interviews. good luck

what schools do you think i should add? (i'm a florida resident)
