No interviews yet....anyone in the same boat?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Most of the people in my MS program haven't gotten interviews yet.

when did they apply?

It is torture for me too. I completed AMCAS late June and finished secondaries by mid August. Schools that I completed secondaries in June and July still no word. 3 put me on hold and 3 pre-secondary rejection. Waiting on 12 now. I have asked some residents and med students and they say I shouldn't really worry unless its February and I still haven't heard anything.

Last cycle, I received 2 really late interviews: 1 on January 15th, and another on February 1st.
And I was complete at those schools since August.

So don't lose hope yet!

no unfortunately, but I don't think these late interviews affected my chances as they were not for waitlist positions.

Perhaps, there may be some truth to weaker applicants receiving interview invites later in the season though.

nah, not really, but with no interviews yet, you probably don't stand a chance this year.

Look forward to you being banned. Why be a dou***? We're all in this together.

Check out my earlier post if you want some feedback to improving your application. Also, take advantage of update letters pre-interview.

I want to DESTROY EVERYTHING. I've been complete since July/Early August at most places.

I still haven't heard back from the school that interviewed me last year. =(

This seems ironic considering the quote you have under your posts.
Stay strong though! The interview season isn't even half way done yet. There's still time!

This is true for me too. I had three interviews last year and not one of those schools has offered me an interview this year. Kinda bummed because I really liked a couple of them and thought I had made changes to my application this year that they would really like. On second thought though, they didn't even offer me interviews until later than this last year, so maybe it's still coming.

When did they offer you interviews last year, just out of curiosity?

Seriously?!

Yes. I have no idea why- I didn't say anything horribly stupid. I was just ridiculously nervous.

I think my first invite came in December. The actual interview was the first week of January. Then I got another invite in January and another in February.

Last year, I received an invite in December and interviewed about a month later in January. I applied really late last year and earlier this year... and it seems to have not made a difference.

Still no word on the interview front for me either. I'm surprised that I'm not freaking out yet. I think I'll give myself until January before I start panicking.

Although I've set aside my hope in a feable attempt to mitigate the inevitable blow that an entire season without an interview will bring, I've at least realized that this whole "We look at the entire application holistically" slogan is utter BS. I'm sure that they'll look at it holistically once it makes it past the MCAT screen. I imagine I'm getting a lot of "Ew, that MCAT score just made me gag!" accompanied by a swift toss to the rejection/eternal-purgatory pile.

*tear of frustration*

(I hope this post made some of you chuckle.)

it's sad, but i think this is true as well, once you get over the prescreening process, i think they start reading your ps, sec app, ect. its just one too many applications...

I should read before posting next time....sorry about that Deutsche Arzt.

No hard feelings?

. . .Anyways, you are a little mistaken. They do look at your application holistically. AFTER you hit the 33-34 MCAT mark. . . .

You're exasperatingly inattentive:

I chose those schools after I scored >30 on my practice tests. Also read the statement on my MDApps regarding my MCAT. If you'll notice, I submitted prior to taking the MCAT to ensure I was verified at the same time my scores arrived.

Please read before you post.

No, no interviews yet. I just recieved my first rejection from the only MD medical school in our state. My number one choice. 🙁 I just dont get it, I did everything right. I know people with way worse stats than me, and they got in. I still need to hear from two more schools but they are maybe a longer shot. I will be 24 in march and do not know if I will still be interrested in starting medical school at 25.

PM me if you want to discuss and get some advice... My current PI assists with and interviews for the admissions committee here. Several of my MS1-4 friends are also on the committee. I might be able to help.

Either way, one year doesn’t really make that much of a difference, especially at your age and if you’re gunning for a 4yr MD program. Think about it: Would you rather spend the rest of your life wishing you were a doctor, getting pissed off every time you went in to see your PCP or met a physician while you were out and about? Imagine how bitter you’d be. Don't lose hope. I'm 28 and looks like I'll start an MSTP (Medical Scientist Training Program, 7-9yr MD/PhD program) at 29y/o.

LoL, none at all. I nearly missed your post, too.

One year of difference is going to change your whole perspective on whether to go to medical school or not? What's wrong with starting at 25? :eyebrow:

Worst case scenario for me is starting medical school at 30 and I have no problem with that. Don't look year to year, look at yourself in 10 years. The way I see it, there's no real career that will be put me in a better position in 10 years than being a doctor.

I agree. Whereas starting medical school at 30 may not be considered the ideal age, it's definitely not too old.

Hey everyone. Don't lose hope! I am in a similar situation. I'm sure we will all overcome as the year turns around! Best of luck everyone and Happy Thanksgiving. I hope to see you all in residency one day.

Were those California schools?

What IS considered a late II?
Feb and beyond?

I sent a status check email to one of my schools today and got a reply that my status had been switched to "process invite." They said I'll be receiving an email next week to schedule my interview!!

Do NOT give up hope! Good luck to all.

I don't know why people always say to never give up hope. There are people the ADCOMs just don't want, no matter how many times they reapply. It's almost December and I haven't even heard from the school I interviewed at last cycle. It's pretty clear that I'm not getting in. Instead, I have to send off my applications to SMPs, to spend another year of my life without actually making any progress towards my medical degree. If a school wanted me, they would have interviewed me. None of them do. So I don't really see a problem with giving up hope. -__-

When are IIs typically sent out for applicants who were complete in September?

Within the next month.... or even early next year. I'm still reading/reviewing applications that were complete in September. It takes a long time to slog through. Furthermore, some schools may interview through February (or later) but not want to issue invitations too far in advance in order to avoid last minute cancellations or requests for rescheduling due to changes in plans.

This is, without a doubt, one of the most depressing threads I've ever looked through. 🙁

My bad. Reapplicants are always more depressing than first-timers. =P Maybe there's slightly more hope than I initially believed. Although... LizzyM, can you think of any reason why a school that interviewed me in Jan last cycle hasn't bothered interviewing me this year? I'm 99% sure I didn't swear my allegiance to Hitler or anything like that.
