Does anyone know for sure when Buffalo STOPS interviewing? Will they end next week, or are they going to interview in March too? I want the waitlist to start moving!!

I have an interview scheduled for April 5th. It was their earliest opening when they contacted me late last month.

I just called to find out the answer to my own question. The last day of interviews is scheduled for March 24th. DARN! I guess we'll still be waiting awhile for waitlist movement.

WHAT? I think the office needs to work on communication skills then. This is the second time I've been told something by the office of admissions, only to hear otherwise on SDN. Good luck on that interview though!

Hey Hmno82,

Did you like Buffalo better than Upstate? I interviewed at both of them and would much rather go to Upstate. Upstate has nicer facilities, the people were nicer, and best of all...its not in Buffalo.😛 Did you get to go into the anatomy lab at Buffalo during your tour? Would you want to work in a place like that, so crowded? I sure wouldn't. Thats just my 2 cents, you may have a different opinion, but I don't think you should worry too much about Buffalo, Upstate is IMHO much better. Good luck though if you really want to go to Buffalo I hope you get in.

Oh, on a side note: Buffalos admissions office is pretty messed up if you ask me. I think they accepted way too many people early on and now are waitlisting everyone.

i got in to both places, and i thought that buffalo was way better than upstate. firstly, i think syracuse is about the most boring city i've ever seen, buffalo looks much more interesting. plus i got a much better feeling from the students and facutly in buffalo than i did at upstate, one of my interviewers there was amazingly bad, i'm surprised i got in cause it seemed like i had wronged him in another life and he was punishing me for it. i dunno. maybe it just depends on how the interviews went.

I suppose your right when you say it depends on how the interviews go. Regardless of the interviews, I still feel that Upstate has much better facilities. As far as location goes, I think they're pretty comparable, although Buffalo is much bigger. Downtown Buffalo is crap though, its fine if you want to live in the Suburbs somewhere.

personally, i think Buffalo is much better than Upstate! everyone complains about the weather in Buffalo (and yeah it sucks!), but Syracuse is COLDER and gets more SNOW. who knew it was even possible? i just don't like syracuse as a place to live either.

and no, buffalo is not exactly a booming metropolis. but toronto is an amazing and diverse city- and a mere 1.5 hour drive.

i agree though- your perception of a school is entirely dependent on who you happened to interview with, and what students were around that day. i liked buffalo a lot as a school, and i thought the students were friendly and seemed to be able to balance work and fun very well.

as for me- if i get into stony brook off of the waitlist, that's where i'll be!

syracuse definitely does NOT get more snow than buffalo. buffalo gets lake effect like gangbusters, and syracuse gets alot, but not nearly that much. buffalo also takes care of it really well, it has some of the best plow and snow management systems as anybody around. the rest of your post i agree with though. just for reference i'm from rochester, right between those two.

Yeah, it snows alot in New York. Try doing anything when your town gets like 80 inches of snow in a three day storm. Syracuse has been the snowiest for quite some time, it just isn't as publicized as Buffalo. Its no wonder that people are leaving Upstate New York in droves.

Hell, I like the snow, but Upstate gave my application the boot. I'm still kinda upset about that.

On the bright side of things, I can hold off a little on purchasing new snow tires next year ... 🙂

ha! you guys are right. i read that article, and the funny thing is that my impression of buffalo during winter was from my drive home to rochester from michigan Christmas of 2001, which, if you read the article, happened to be during a 5 day period when Buffalo got 7 feet of snow all at once. that was insane, the snow on the highway was bottoming out my little honda civic.

I've lived in Syracuse just about my whole life, and I have a lot of respect for Upstate. It gave me my first exposure to medicine. The facilities AND the attitude of the faculty are awesome, and if I didn't plan getting married to someone that has a job in Buffalo, I would def. go to Upstate. Upstate believes that I can make a great doc. Buffalo thinks I might be an OK doc, but wants to see if they can find someone better. Syracuse has it's problems though once you step outside of the medical school walls... the people kinda suck. If you ever go to Wegman's in DeWitt (suburb of syr) all you'll get is a door slammed in your face and a death glare from the person who did it. "Thank you" is not in their vocabulary either. I'm not saying everyone, but a huge chunk are like that. Buffalo people are generally friendly. Anyway, I just don't want to get married 2nd yr and after two weeks say "well that was a great wedding honey... see ya in a couple months!" BUFFALO PLEASE LET ME IN!

First, I go to UB and asked the premed advisor a couple months ago when the med school would stop interviewing, and she found out it was March 24, too. I don't know what's up with that April 5 interview...

Second, how did you get a door slammed in your face at Wegmans in Dewitt? I've lived in Syracuse all my life and I shop there when I'm home. The doors are automatic to get inside and then it's a walkway to go into the main section of the store. Fibber!

It snows more in Syracuse, but Buffalo is colder.

Also, about the 8 people to a cadaver in the UB anatomy lab: why do you think it's that big of a deal? You'll still see everything and get a chance to dissect and learn everything you need to. Why would a couple less people per table make that big of a difference? I'm not talking to anyone specifically, but a lot of people have had that complaint and I'm just curious why they care.

(I was kidding about the fibber part. Don't flip out if you thought about flipping out.)

They had to put automatic doors in because I kept complaining about the lack of door-holding courtesy on the part of their OTHER consumers. What part of Syracuse are you from? As you can probably tell from my previous post, I'm from DeWitt.
