One of the pharmacists that I work with asked me what I was wearing to my interview tommorrow, I told her, that I am planning on wearing a ordinary black suit, a white dress shirt, and a red tie (because the interview is at UGA). And all at once, all 6 people that were working said said "NO!, you cant wear red to an interview!" Something about how it shows that you are not a team player or something like that.

Has anyone else ever heard this? What colors should I wear? They told me a blue tie is good but I dont want to wear Gator's colors to a UGA interview.

Here is my 2-cents.....

I am totally agree with your peers.

Red is good for social gatherings. I f you'd attended UGA's activities, such as pep rally, then Red is well conceived.

Red is not for academical activities, such as interviews. Red shows aggressiveness and fighter attitude.

I think that you wear something blue (look at President Bush and his staff) or dark colored ties (Hollywood Stars in Oscar's) are the safe bet.

What?!? President Bush & staff constantly wear Red ties....

This is a ridiculous thread--my "lucky" tie that got me into med school was red, so don't sweat it. Just concentrate on answering the questions and being pleasant.

Wear whatever you feel and look your best in. As long as you are dressed professionally, the most important part is how you interact with your interviewers, not what color your tie is! Best of luck to you! :luck:

I interviewed many people. I would never be put off by a red tie, however, if you gave any indication that your were not a team player...you would be out of there, and I was asking questions about that, usually behaviorally event basedf type questions.

I did hear that red is a power color. So is black! So consider changing the tie...and next time...unless you are applying for a director of everything job, stay away from black. Don't sweat it now if you can't change it. You need to be self confident...so don't worry

... if you look professional, the red color tie is secondary...
Good Luck!

I've actually hear that they interview soooo many students with black suit on that it gets very monotonous, and if you actually wear like a pin (if you're a girl) or possibly a red tie (if you're a guy) that it gives them something subtle that will make you stand out in their mind. I don't think they will dock you for wearing a red tie, I think it will look nice!

I've heard the same thing about red (and poka-dots (sp?), like anyone would!). Just in case there's any truth to that, I'd pick another color!!

i can't imagine why your coworkers would have reacted that way. be confident with your initial decision. red is a classic tie color and it will look pretty sharp with a dark gray or black suit and a light shirt.
that's what i wore and it worked for me.
now stop worrying about your tie and start getting psyched up for the interview!
best of luck!

believe it or not, there is some validity to the impressions you give off based on the colors you wear. its an instictual thing which, of course, can be offset by the eventual impression you make as you are interviewed.

I actually think the red tie sounds like a great idea! I think you should go with it. Well, that is unless for some strange reason you don't get in that you would end up blaming the tie.

I dont think you should automatically discount wearing red. You probably shouldnt wear screaming fire engine red, its too "look-at-my-tie". But so would be a yellow, orange or naked lady tie. I think a dark burgundy or marroon tie would be very classy looking, a deep blue, or a subtley striped varient. Honestly, aside from a few obvious no-no's if you look professional and you feel comfortable anything is fine.

this might be slightly off topic, but i would consider changing up the white shirt. i think the black suit and white shirt (regardless of tie color) is more wedding formal than interview formal. i would go for maybe colored shirt to match ur tie.

that being said...i dont see a problem with red. i would probably do some type of striped red shirt under a red tie...that would be smokin 😎

I wore the same red tie to 4 interviews this season and I was accepted to every school. Don't worry about it, make sure you present yourself well.
