What specialties are you leaning to? I majored in English and I've been most strongly considering anesthesiology, pediatrics or ophthalmology.

Just curious what non-science types are drawn to...

I haven't started school yet, but as an undergrad I majored in Poli Sci, and I'm most interested now in Emergency Medicine.

I thought about EM before starting school too. But I realized that I don't function very well when I feel rushed. I can handle pressure but I wouldn't want it to be my day to day life.

I majored in english with an emphasis in creative writing (plus a one year mfa in fiction). i haven't started med school yet, but i'm leaning towards
ENT surgery. I had a vocal polyp after years of singing that left me pretty much mute for a year, and my surgeon was just great... and had all these nifty tools...i'm fascinated by the whole head/neck/airway thing.

i'm also interested in psychiatry and sleep medicine... but thats probably because i LIKE to listen to people talk about themselves (side effect of being a fiction writer) and i have the most vivid dreams ever. i'm just fascinated by sleep research.... maybe i can do both?

people who have sleep problems and need a laryngal tumor removed? maybe? maybe not... 🙂

Finance, thinking of either anesth or EM... i havent put too much thought into it though since there's a good chance ill probly change my mind anyway

Philosophy major. I am considering either not practicing medicine and getting an MBA/going into business, or if I stay in medicine leaning toward Surgery or Rads. Not sure though, plenty of time.

Were you thinking along the same lines when you applied? Im curious of you've already become jaded with medicine as a first year, or if you've felt this way since your premed days.

Nah I'm not jaded I knew how much medicine sucked in many ways even before I applied, and I have had very little clinical experience so its not as if I could have changed that opinion much. I am considering moving to Tokyo when I graduate and thus would not be able to practice medicine if I did that. It has nothing to do with medicine.

Classics major wanting to go into rads.

I majored in psychology and at the moment I'm interested in pediatrics.

Philosophy; Neurology. Don't even read this, because I haven't even started school yet. But I've always been into neurology.

musical theater --> EM or ped. EM

Majored in Criminal Justice (Minor in Chemistry) leaning towards Forensic Pathology..(loved the internship I did in it), Forensic Psychiatry...but what the hell I could just as likely go into Anesthesia.

Undergrad: Forensic Science (Dept. of Anthropology/Sociology)

Specialty: Emergency Medicine

Quite a few potential EM doctors... very interesting.

heh.

English literature --> Family medicine (as an undergrad) --> Radiology (as M2) --> EM (M2-3) --> Anesthesiology (real thang)

Undergraduate major had absolutely no bearing on final interests. 😛
