I'm 29. I would like to start med school in 2009, when I'm 31. Married, house, dog, no kids.

32 and I'll be 32 when I start! This is how it begins!

33 now -- will be 34 when I arrive at orientation!
I like to think I didn't get in last year so that I can now tell people I will graduate from medical school exactly 20 years after graduating from high school.

Oh, and obviously I have 2 dogs!

I'm going to be 28 when I matriculate to PCOM and then almost 32 when I graduate. Switched from investment banking to medicine.

Last May I wrote a script to go through this thread and plot the ages of the postings so we could see the distribution. The thread has grown a bit, so I figured I'd re-run it to see what it looks like now.

x-axis is age, y-axis is count

just curious... im 27 asking this question... for all the people over 22 do you have kids, married, single? how's life at home and what made you decide to go to medical school? I'm asking because im currently taking premeds to get into physical therapy, the more i think about it the more i want to go to med school.

you might want to post this as a new question/thread in this forum since it's a different topic. you'll get more views that way.

will be 30 in a few days....

i think age doesn't matter if you're determined...

but health is crucial... can't do anything w/out a good health...

I'm 27 with a house, wife, dog, no kids. I switched from public school teaching. My most important advice is to eat healthy, and I don't mean just veggies or macrobiotic stuff, just good food made at home in moderate quantities.

I am 34. Roughly 2 years from medical school.

I think the key to your long term goals is to break them up into smaller attainable goals. If you accomplish those goals then you will realize your much larger goal.

This is the way I think about my dream of medicine. Pass test one ... pass class one ... ace semester one ... start again.

I'm 29, will be 31 when I go to med school. Can't wait!

I am 33 now but will be 34 when med school starts in August. I've been married for 6 years and am expecting my first baby in 7 weeks. Oh, we also have two cats. It should be fun!

I figured I will have no choice but to focus. My free time will be more precious than ever and I have a feeling that I will be less likely to procrastinate when I know it will cut into family time. I studied much better as a postbacc than I did when I was undergrad and I hope that things go even better when I become a medical student.

Good luck to everyone! :luck:

I am 27, will be 28 whenI start med school. Glad to see I am not the only one.

40 when I start school
Wife and daughter - 10 years old

i just turned 26. i will be finished with pre-reqs by spring 2009 and will be applying for the 2010 matriculating class.

I'm 27. If I get in this year - I'll matriculate at 28. Since I applied late - I might have to re-apply next year.. but what's another year? 🙂

38 now, with wife and two kids....the plan is to apply early next summer for 2010 matriculation - so I suppose I stand a good shot at wrapping up residency/fellowship by 50 then!

boy do I feel so much better reading through these posts. I'm not even pre-med, I plan on doing pre-pod. I just turned 26 and due to some health set backs I'll probably start podiatry school at 28. I was starting to feel old because I got my BA almost 4 yrs ago and have been finding a million excuses not to pursue my dreams. Good luck to everyone

I am 26, and still have ~3 years to complete pre-reqs part time.

Will be 33 in 2 weeks. I won't be applying until next year, so would be 35 when I start assuming all goes well 🙂

Wife, selling the house (we were going to move anyways for her job), no kids, but a bunch of animals.

28, will get my bachelors in nursing while fulfilling med school pre-reqs( the plan!) have three children and am in no rush for med school b/c it wll just give my children time go grow up some. Although, i do plan to move at a steady pace. This attitude was a long time coming as I used to feel rushed about everything in life as if there was no tomorrow!

26 years old. Played around in labs for a few years and got a Masters in Biomedical Science Policy. Married w/ a baby on the way. I'm starting school this fall (or late summer rather july 28th).

It's encouraging to see so many on here. 😀

Just turned 40. Will be 44 when I get out of pharmacy school (that is if I get in this fall). My goal is to graduate from college before my daughter!!

34 will be 35 next month. I will be 39 when I graduate from dental school.

28, 29 in two weeks. 2 kids, 3 cats, and a husband

As for the focus, I can't help you there. If I ever got around to it, I'd be a card carrying member of the procrastinators club!

I am 26, and plan to apply to DO schools in a couple of years. I am married and we want to have kids. Also, my spouse is in school as well. I just need confirmation and support that I can do it all at the same time (maintain happy couple life, have kids all the while being in med school). What are your thoughts on that?

I'm newly 26, with a husband and no kids. He's in school too and we are thinking about a a family. We might just wait on that though(I have 2, two year old brothers to suffice believe it or not). Currently I already work in the medical field but wont be applying to med school for another couple years.

Just turned 36 this week. Three kids - 10 y/o, 8 y/o, and a 10 WEEK old baby!! Have a great career as an Asst Professor of Biology, but still want to make a greater impact with my life.

So glad to see so many of you that are like-aged and like-minded. Just nervous about taking the MCAT because its been SO LONG since I've taken physics, general chem, etc.!😳

I'm 31. I'll be 32 when I start at UofA in August. I have a husband and 2 kids - 13 and 5 (next month). Gearing up for a wild ride! 😱 My daughter will graduate HS the same year I graduate med school. It should be interesting!

I'm 26 now, and will be 27 when I enroll (assuming all goes well applying this summer...) I have a husband who will finish law school the semester before I start med school, and two cats, but no kids. We'll eventually have kids, just not quite sure when.

I will be 35 about a month after I start med school this year. I took a little 10-year detour through the pharmacy profession before I worked up the courage to pursue medicine. And I don't have a husband or kids. Just a puppy. 🙂

I am 30. I am married to the most supportive woman in the world! I have 2 daughters 1 with autism, 1 is neurotypical. I was a nursing student and then I pulled a clinical in the OR and observed a total hip replacement and fell in love with ortho surg. So after that I got to say "HONEEEYYYY" and she said whatever you want so If all goes to plan I will take the MCAT next year and be well on my way to the OR.

I will be 29 in June. I have a BA in English. I am working on my prereqs part-time and will probably finish them by Fall 2010, take the MCAT in Spring 2011 and apply for the 2012 entering class. So, I will be 33 when I start!

30. Will apply at 31 and get my old *** in there at 32 (God willing).

45 y/o 3rd yr med students.... did I win?

I am 27 now, and just started my general ed classes at community college. Will be switching to university for my pre-med classes (hopefully by the fall). I have a husband and a 19-month-old daughter. Who knows how old I'll be at matriculation! I take evening classes and watch my brother's two little girls during the week, in addition to my own. I hope to be starting med school by 2012 or 2013, which would make me 31 or 32 at the start of 1st year. 😎

I'm 35, 2nd time app this year due to two minor application areas being corrected now. It was tough initially to get my focus back onto academics, having been out of school completely for 7 years since completing my master's degree. My assumption is that I need to work harder and know the material better than my classmates, to ensure top grades in premed courses (28 hrs completed so far, + 16 in progress now).

Part of what I'm doing that is working pretty well is to analyze.. every quiz, every test that I could have scored better, I speak with classmates or the teacher to improve my performance for next time. (and at times to argue for more points on a quiz/test). I started slow, 15 hrs science courses, and then increased the intensity (O-chem 1 & 2 + 2 bio classes in 10 weeks total over last summer). I study every day, most waking hours other than childcare issues for our 2 children, + volunteer clinical work. Until acceptance into med school, everything else (reading the paper, watching sports, etc) is being deferred. Good luck!

I'll be 29 by the time I start my Au.D (god-willing!), planning a wedding, no kids, and probably broke...Gotta love my 20's!!

Oh yes...and 50lbs. lighter!!!

32 will be 33 when I start Podiatry school this fall. Married with four kids, one starting high school as I start Pod school. Guess I'll be 40 by the time I finish residency...

27 - ready to get started

25. but I don't know when I'll be starting med school. In fall of 2009 just before my 27 birthday, Lord willing.

36, returning to school to finish my Bachelors. Probably be 38? before med school.

Jay

I am 39...matriculating at Wake Forest in July 2008. So excited!!!! 🙂

I'm 28. Studying for MCAT now & hope to take it in August. If all works out, apply June 2009 and start August of 2010 (making me 30 when I matriculate).

30, applying this summer, matriculate (hopefully) at 31. I'm not married though, and in a lot of ways I feel more like 27ish. Age ain't nuthin but a number, right? 😀
