I'm 27. Starting my Pre-Med classes January 2009. Have to keep working full time throughout 09 so I can only take one class at a time but if everything is still going ok, I'll go full time and quit my current job beginning in 2010.

If all goes well, I'll be applying in 2011 and start 2012. <fingers crossed>
 
WOW.. assuming that Non-Traditional way of entering Medical School includes having an undergraduate course that's not specifically for an M.D. degree, I feel really like I'm a toddler here.

I'm still 18 years old doing my second year in nursing. I'm planning on doing my pre-med requirements along with my core nursing classes.

Assuming I get along all of these fine, I believe I'll get into medical school at around 21-23. I'm thinking of applying at 2012 for the 2013 class.
 
I'm 25. Will be applying next cycle. I may be on the young end of the nontrad spectrum but being married with a 10 yr old stepson certainly makes me feel like a nontrad!
 
I'm 34 and will start college in fall 2009, have an associates degree now but am going for bachelors in biochemistry and another one in social justice....already got my walker with the hot pink tenny balls on reserve......😳
 
I'm 27 years of age. I will be 28 this July. My hope is to get a masters degree in a health field by the time I'm 30. I'm also interested in getting a masters degree in Journalism as well. I already work as a medical reporter and a medical writer.

By next summer I will have all of my undergraduate debt paid off. My hope is to have enough money saved up to pay for one of my masters degree in cash and fill out FAFSA and work as a teaching assistant for free tuition.

I graduated last May at 26 years of age and turned 27 two months later. I graduated college with $50,000 of debt. I currently pay all of my bills, food, gas, and rent by my medical reporter job. I get paid $100 an hour for this job and provided me an income level of $4,500 a month. I'm only contracted until next Dec. as of right now. I might have the chance to sign a new contract next winter. For my medical writer job, I'm on pace to make $100,000 in the next 12 months. I consider myself lucky with this job because they allow an unlimited income level potential. So I'm using this job to pay off my student loan debt and save the rest to pay for my masters degrees in cash.

My career goals is to continue working as a medical writer (which is the reason for the journalism degree) and get my masters degree in a healthcare field and become the most well-known and highest paid person in that field.....working in a clinic, teaching, and having a small private practice.

Twenty seven years of age sounds old, but it really isn't. By the time we live another 27 of our life over again, we will be only 54 and still have a good two decades left in the work force.

A very young-feeling 29. Will be 31-32 when I matriculate in 2011, hopefully!!! (looking at 42 at least at the end of residency, but considering I will be fulfilling my life's dream it's well worth the time spent!)
 
I have found difficulty in finding pre-req classes at night, what college did you attend for these? Any reccomendations?
 
I am 31, will hopefully be starting in 2010. I figure that time is going to go by no matter what, so I might as well spend it in medical school and residency...

Here's to that! I totally agree, as I'll be 32 when I matriculate (provided I get in on the first round!)
 
Just turned 25 and I'll start as an MS1 this fall. Not sure if I count as a non-traditional.
 
33 right now. I am still working on my post-bacc prereqs. I hope to apply in 2010 for 2011. Wow that seems far off 🙂

I will be 40 when I start my residency. That's the new 20 right???

Maybe I'm missing something, but what is there to "learn" about acupuncture?

Am 38 and starting school in July. Getting my pre reqs done with all the 18-20 year olds did not make me feel old......actually that kept me feeling young..........It is the full time work, two kids, a dog, mortgage and the associated house work that makes me feel old!!


You are never too old.....besides, during residency you are a doctor and seeing patients, you just have to work under an attending....(at least it makes it seem shorter from my perspective)
 
I'm 24, I will hopefully matriculate at 27, maybe 26 if I am lucky. I feel so old when I see 18 year olds in my class 🙁.
 
29 - I hope to matriculate at 30 (2010).

I'm glad to post my first utterance on these boards in a room with people to whom I feel I can actually relate! >_<

Hours into wading through the pre-allo threads, my heart rate was climbing. I was really starting to feel nervous... I was too immature during the first handful of years I was in college, and my GPA suffered. After working, I returned and finished my BA. I've been kicking ass and taking names, but I have a lot to make up for.

If I'd gone straight through high school/university/medschool (instead of falling off the path of my dream), I'd have been a practicing physician for over a year already. That stings.

I'll be 40 in 10 years either way. I want to be a 40-year-old physician. Whatever it takes to get there is worth it - the time passes either way.

Awesome, I'm right there with ya. Good luck and keep your head up. Have you considered the Osteopathic route? Just a thought as we're both Non-Trads and from my understanding the DO schools tend to be more understanding of older students vs the Allopathics.

I sure hope so! I'm 40 now; if I get in this cycle I'll be 44 when I start residency.
 
You would think that with all we learnabout physiology and such, we will take better care of our selves than if we were not medically educated.....so we should live longer and enjoiy our future careers.......so, it is worth it........right? (at least this makes it seem more palatable)

Focus isn't an issue if you're driven. I left an great paying IT job to go back and finish 24 credits of premed pre-reqs (CHM, OCHM, PHYS) in one year, as well as study up for the MCAT. I knew what I wanted, and I knew I'd have to be stellar, otherwise I wouldn't have a shot.

If you're going to go for it, just remember to take a step back and look at the big picture. Good Luck :luck:

Did you take your premed pre-reqs at VCU? I'm asking because I plan on doing that instead of going through a post-bac program. If you did take them at VCU, was it hard for you to get into the classes you needed? I currently work at MCV as a RN.
 
I'm 21 with hopes to begin med school at 24!
 
I will be a 29 year old MS-I if I am accepted this year (Class of 2013). Couldn't be happier. Over a decade of traveling and wonderful life experiences, an amazing wife and a baby girl on the way! Medical school is not a necessary evil for me, it is icing on the cake. I am blessed to have the opportunity to pursue the career of my dreams, and the life I have always prayed for.

37 1/2....1 teenager, 10 year old, 6 year old and a husband. will be almost 40 when I apply...
 
29..Hope to apply by 2010 or 2011..So happy I'm not the only "non-traditional!" 😀
 
I'm 27, 3 kids, wife and 2 & 1/2 years to go before I even apply. Age is a tertiary factor IMO.
 
24 and *hopefully* I'll be almost 25 when I start med school.... **crosses fingers that interviews go well next month** lol
 
Okay, seriously? The average matriculant age for med school is around 24-25. So starting med school at even 26 isn't really "non-traditional".

31 and prepping for my first interview.
 
I just started my 2nd semester in my DO program. I am 29, and will be 30 this semester. It is 100% worth it. I switched over from an engineering career. There are a handful of over 27ers in my class. There is no doubt that those of us who have worked other jobs and taken time to find a way approach this thing with a much firmer base. Do NOT be discouraged in this process. I was told by friends, family, and academic advisors that i should not do this. But everyday of class is a blessing and i look forward to every lab! I just spent time shadowing in an ER and this was the icing on the cake to reaffirm my decision.

Warning: It's Saturday night, i am studying cardiovascular physiology like a madman. My wife is watching a movie on the couch without me. This is about the 10th movie she has watched without me. I believe that this decision has had profound effects on our relationship and may be the only chink in the armor. I was warned by others of this situation and feel that i should pass along that warning. Returning to med school will effect your relationships with loved ones, friends, and a family! If you feel you are strong enough to absorb that blow, go forth. Much luck.

I'm 24 right now. I am applying this coming cycle (for matriculation in fall of 2010).

Graduated undergrad in '07
Will graduate with master's in '09
Taking another one year master's during my application year.

I just looooove school. Oh, and roughly $50,000 in debt. 😱

I turned 26 this month, damn it time flies!!! I'm applying this summer for matriculation in 2010, currently pursuing a MS Biomedical Engr and working as a QC Pharma Scientist. Taking MCAT this April, it's really hectic but I decided not to kick the can any further down the road!!!!

I'm 24 and plan to apply to PostBac programs this year!
 
I'll be 36 when I start med school this year with a baby in tow! YEAH, CLASS OF 2013!!!:laugh:😍:laugh:
 
I am currently 28 and I am looking to apply at the earliest (if my plan works out) the fall of 2011 and will start @ 32 hopefully at the latest 33 or 34. I will likely be taking statins as I do my cardiology rotation.😀
 
I'm 25. I'm only a junior though, so I'll be 26 going into med school if everything goes according to plan (though it never does with me).

I'm 35, hope to apply in the year of 2010 or 2011, will be 38 or 39 when I start the med school...
 
I will be 33 when I start med school... studying undergrad prereqs now! Looking @ surgery so that = 41/42 and attending!
 
I am 47 and, like many of you, have wanted to be a physician my whole life. I still can't believe it, but I will be living the dream starting in August. I received my acceptance letter about 2 - 3 weeks ago!!! So don't give up!
 
I graduated in 2005 when I was 22, worked for 2 years and changed career paths and began taking BCPMs in 2007 at a local CC. I got in to a post baccalaureate program in 2008 and plan on applying to medical school in 2011, where I'll be 28 years old!
 
I'm 32, with a wife and a kid. We're expecting another one in April. (Can't wait) 😉
I'll be exactly 35 when I start med school.(assuming getting in the 1st time around)
