I don't know what's worse... the school I'm going to if I don't get off the waitlist doesn't start until September - so I could potentially have to wait it out down to the last day!

I'm beginning to think I am one of those pitty waitlists LizzyM was talking about. They probably read my LOI and was like I can't say no to this kid, but I can just waitlist him and wait for him to matriculate elsewhere!

Sometimes I wish the waitlist is ranked...this way, we would at least have some sort of idea about where we stand. Right now, it is just waiting and waiting and more waiting. 😎

Hey guys....I too want badly to be at NU next year, i just don't post as much you guys do. On that note, I have some bad news for us.....when I called today, the secretary (it was a different one than the person I normally talk to) told me that Dean Brown is out of town the next 2 weeks so nothing can happen until she gets back. Thats damn reliable and I don't know if they would normally tell us that. Oh well, here's to more waiting.

I was sitting in front of my computer this afternoon...trying (ya...trying 😎 ) to finish up my thesis and then, northwestern came into mind. Then I remembered my interview day at NU...

I remembered at the end of the day, there was this MD who came to demonstrate what PBL was like and he started his talk by telling us what he thinks is important for physicians. And he said something like, "you are going to go to med school and you are going to be a physician no matter which school you go to, but always remember why you decided to pursue medicine." then, he pointed out the people (at the sidewalk, you can see pedastrians from the big windows) and said something like, "it is the people outside there that you should care the most."

I know this might sound very trite but I remembered at that point, my tears were in my eyes (I know it is really silly and I was, or probably have always been, too sensitive and emotional) but I just couldn't help it. This MD has this kind of intimidating attitude and his talk was not delievered in a emotional way, but I was still touched...The funny thing was...NU was probably my 7th or 8th interview but it was the only interview that I was close to tears by some guy's talk.

then I think about the waitlist situation...you know what? I think the worst part is not the waiting. Waiting for something to come is not hard. Waiting for some one to reject me is not hard either. The worst is that you don't know if it is coming to not. It can be August and then YOU have to say to yourself that it is over. There is no definite day, on which you can either celebrate or cry out loud. Your emotion is broken down into tiny pieces (you can be a little bit happier today because the secretary says that there is going to be some movement in next 2 weeks but then you can be a little upset today because Dean Brown is out of her office for next 2 weeks). And it is so hard to move on when there is always hope. "Maybe I will get a call tomorrow..." yet maybe not at the same time.

In the end, the waitlist situation sort of becomes the background for your emotion. It can be a little darker or a little brighter, but it is always there...

hm...obviously I was not trying very hard to write my thesis... 😎

This is actually somewhat of a good thing--we won't have to worry about the waitlist for two whole weeks! We can put it out of mind for a while, because we know there won't be any calls going out.

No!!!!!!!!!!! Its a REALLY hard decision! I like a lot of things about both schools. I'll let you guys know as soon as I decide, which should be by this tuesday!

I guess NU would be their top choices....unless they just said so to get in.

Hi everyone.

I wanted to let you know I got into NU off the waitlist. I had called on Thurs (5/25) to let them know I was still interested (like I had been doing every week). I gave them my AAMCS number and they put me on hold for a bit and then came back on said they'd mark down my call. I came home the next day and found a skinny envelope from NU which I thought was bad news since I talked to them the day before and they didn't say anything. I opened it up and it was an acceptance. The letter was dated 5/24. This was certainly unexpected. I was suprised since the day before (after my letter was in the mail) they didn't tell me on the phone I was accepted. Maybe they weren't allowed. Since March. I had written Dean Brown a letter and called almost every week. Just a couple of weeks ago I was told they wouldn't look at the waitlist until mid-June. So hopefully that means plenty of time still for everyone else. Good luck everyone.

Keep in mind that a lot of other schools have been doing their own "first wave", taking people who were holding acceptances at NU. The dust that settles from that is what likely constitutes the second wave, not waitlisters turning down offers. At least I hope thats the case...they better not be taking people off the waitlist who weren't calling and writing like us--it's just unfair!!!

So Northwestern called my fiancee yesterday......for a job interview at NMH. Why doesn't Northwestern call me? 😛 If she lands a job, that will definitely merit another letter to the school.

Called 'em yesterday. The office lady said that they're still expecting a decent amount of waitlist movement. Anybody think that if my fiancee interviews at NMH that I should ask to see if I could meet with Dean Brown again? or would that not make much difference?

I was in Chicago for memorial day weekend....I asked if I could meet with Dean Brown that Friday....they said the deans will not meet with anyone who is still under consideration...only rejected applicants.

Yeah I called every week and sent two letters of interest to Dean Brown. I dont think I ever said they were my first choice and never sent a letter of intent, but I definitely showed I was interested.

So when I made my weekly call yesterday, I tried to get info out of the lady who usually picks up the phone. She seemed to not want to give me a definitive date....rather she said "no Dean Brown is not back yet.....you shouuldn't be worried about that......who told you that Dean Brown was gone anyway (some other lady had told me this piece)". And it sounds like the only movement that has taken place is that first batch of movement. As the days go by I become more and more anxious, but if you look at last years waitlist threads, people got the call at the very end of june and in july as well. My best guess: Dean Brown will return soon, look and see how many spots remain after they offered people plus any withdrawals/deferrals in the past couple weeks....then make a second round of offers.

Congratulations! I got that call today too and couldn't be happier. Presuming you choose to go, guess we'll both end up in Chicago in a couple months.

I got the call from Dean Brown at 6pm! I called about 5 times and sent a LOI. Exciting!

Damn....it seems that every single person who made more than one post on this thread has been accepted except for me and prowler...and he may have been accepted but hasn't said anything yet. I'm pretty disheartened at this point....I've gone to great lengths in order to show that NU is my #1 choice/how I am a great fit etc.. I don't know what else I can really do at this point. It seems that Dean Brown got back from vacation and is attempting to fill the class, which apparently had several spots open....and the fact that most people are accepting their spots...man I'm pretty sick of this game.....I might just go ahead and submit a withdrawal....I just don't think there is anything more I can do.

nope, I didn't hear a peep. I was hoping to have a voicemail when I got back. 🙁 I'm starting my apartment search for my acceptance location tomorrow. Five people on SDN alone got in, so I can't imagine that between the people not on SDN and those who didn't post about it, that there really are any spots left.
