I definitely wouldn't want to be treated by a doc with nose rings.

I saw one during my interview. Although it isn't TOO unprofessional, I think that person with the piercing would look more professional without it. I also haven't seen any doctors with nose piercings.

I see no reason to take keep it in. I think the best influence it could have on you is no influence. At worst it could rub your interviewer the wrong way. I am taking my earrings out (guy).

Unless you are Indian and it is a cultural thing, just take it out for the interview.

Agreed- it's ok for the south asians. ok...only south asian females.

Agreed. After all, if you have to ask, you probably already know the answer...

lol i think if you take the visible ones off you should be fine. i mean they can't see most of your piercings unless you have like mad lip, eye brow, nose.

Edit:

lol k, hahaha i am stupid, yea nose piercing, be like michael jackson, cover it up hehe j/m

Agree. The interview is not the time to take chances. express your individuality with piercings that stay beneath your clothes, if you must.

Yeah, I think the nose piercing can look very nice. But, I don't think it looks classy or professional by any stretch.

bartending is almost like being a physician, your giving people substances to make them feel better 😉

<shrugs> I kept my nose stud in for both my interviews and got accepted to both places (and I had the stereotypical elderly white guy interviewers). It's really small, though. Most people don't even see it at first. So, I guess I would say it depends on the size of the stud.

I totally wouldn't care if my doctor had a nose ring. I have a fat septum piercing but I generally take it out. I saw someone with their teeny nose ring in at an interview but I don't know how it went for her. Eh, just take it out. Put a clear retainer in if you are worried about it closing up.

Look... it definitely won't help and probably could and would hurt you... many interviewers are old school... and unless you are trying to make some kind of non-conformist statement and don't really care about getting into med school, just take it out. come on

I think that if it holds some sort of meaning to you that you should keep it in. Getting into medical school is important, but losing yourself in the process is not. If it was just a spur of the moment piercing than by all means take it out.

I have a nose piercing, but it's a tiny red stone, and no one noticed it. The interviewees didn't even notice (i asked a few at the end of the day). No weird looks, no one looked at my nose. I think it'll be fine...

I used to have my nose pierced, so I am speaking from experience here.....TAKE IT OUT! Don't take a chance on some jewelry in your nose. Is it that important? What if you don't get accepted to the school, do you really want another "what if?" hanging over your head? Simply not worth it. Take it out for a couple hours and then put it back in.
To prove a point, and in the name of "being an individual" some people keep theirs in. But do you really rely on something in your nose to define you? You are not giving up "who you are" by taking a nose ring out for a couple hours. 🙄

why take a chance? would it really kill you to take it out for 6-8 hours? unless your piercing is brand new, the hole won't close up. it's a simple cost-benefit analysis.

i took it out, it's just one less thing for someone to judge you on

I had a whole debate about this with my friends. I asked them and some said to take it out during interviews and others said if they are really interested in who I am it shouldnt matter. MInes is really tiny and people barely notice anyways. Even though I went to one school's open house and spoke to the dean of admissions who granted me an interview with my nose ring in, I took it out when I came back for the interview because I didn't want anything standing in my way.....just in case.

The post you quoted doesn't refer to the "doc" as either male or female...

So I guess you swing both ways huh? 😉

Oh you know I definitely do.

...OK, so I was definitely a little sexist when I read that, assuming it was a girl. Apologies.

I have a nose ring. I currently work in a hosptial where facial piercing studs are acceptable. However, for my interview I wanted to look professional but was afraid of it closing. Simple solution... get a clear plastic spacer. Its honestly less noticable than the shiny thing or gaping hole in your nose! No one said anything but I haven't been accepted yet?

i heard the dean of admissions at maryland give a talk to prospectives. he said he expects to see that stuff nowadays and has no problem with it. still, i'd take the safe route.
