I'm trying to get an idea of what I need to do before I apply for pharmacy school. I was NOT a science major, I was a religious studies major. I was actually working towards being a teacher, then realized it wasn't for me. I understand that I will need to do well in my prereqs classes (as I took little to no science classes in college), to get seen or heard, and i'm actually trying to attain a job as a pharmacy tech. I had a 3.0 GPA in college (probably not really going to matter), and I'm bilingual in Spanish (which UCSD mentioned they liked). What else should I do to stand out? Any ideas? Thanks!

Like you mentioned doing well in your pre-requisite classes will be important since you haven't taken any science courses. Make sure you check each pharmacy school's individual pre-reqs because each school can have different required classes. Getting a pharmacy tech job will help, but not mandatory. I only volunteered in a pharmacy when I got accepted. If you're having difficulty finding a job you might consider volunteering in a pharmacy or hospital. Hopefully you had some extracurricular activities/leadership while in undergrad. If not start getting involved in clubs that interest you.

Since you already graduated I assume you're taking classes at your local community college. Make sure you go now to get a pass time because registration for Fall 2012 classes open around this time. Many of the classes that are pharmacy pre-reqs are heavily impacted classes and you don't want to be delayed a semester because you couldn't get into it. The CC in my area just started their pass times for Fall. I'm assuming the schools in SoCal would be around the same time.

I would double down on what 30Percent said about doing whatever you need to do in order to register for classes now. I'm a senior at the University of Michigan and last year I failed to register early (even though I could just one day after the seniors) because I was too busy and got locked out of a class which in turn got me locked out of a class for this past winter semester. It was, in essence, a one-year delay. I've got everything locked in early for the fall this time.

do not let you religious ideas impart judgement on your practice of medicine. interviewers will ask you some questions that may bring controversy from your views and medicine. treat all patients impartially and fairly.
