So who are all the Canadian kids going to Nova?? Where are you guys from?
I live pretty close to Toronto, and JUST finished school in Kingston.....thank god it's over.
Kidcanada....i haven't even started looking at loans or anything yet....i think i'm a little behind. I don't have an I-20 yet either. I better do all that soon!
Have any Canadians gotten the orientation package yet? It takes sooooo long to get anything here. I'm completely in the dark about what's going on. And are we sure that orientation is on Aug. 8th?? That's a sunday, kind of weird. My cousin is getting married in Toronto that day. Boo.

You guys think we have to wear our scrubs to orientation, or just starting the first day of classes? Don't ask me why, but i was thinking about this when i was filling out the scrub order form. That would suck if i was the only one wearing scrubs 😱

When will they be distributed? Probably with our lab coats? So not until the latter part of orientation at least. 🙂

Josh:
You'll be coming down in the heart of our final exams (this week and next week). I believe the week you come down, we'll have 8 exams that week (15 total). Wasn't for exams, I would like to meet you and have a couple.
Regardless, give me a call anyways, we'll see where I am with my studies....I can introduce you to couple of upper classmen and some faculty perhaps. No guarantees, but give me a jingle. PM me for my number.

Anybody else choose to live at Cedar Key? I got myself a nice 2-bedroom apartment for $1030 a month. I didn't want to pay extra for the vaulted-ceilings or pool/lake view. I opted for the convenience of living right across the street from Nova. Anyways, I hope to be your neighbor and for those of you still looking good luck apartment hunting.

Jessica, I'm a student at Nova. Last year, during orientation someone showed up to the white coat ceremony in shorts! That was awesome. Anyways, most of us were in suits, or dress clothes, whatever. We weren't aware that we were going to be wearing scrubs everyday, yet. Still, you can't go wrong looking sharp for your first official school function. However, if you have your scrubs on the day when they hand out instruments (welcome to the hunter greens), it would be my suggestion that you don them for that momentous occasion. If you want to be ready for the unexpected, you can pick-up a pair of scrubs in your hometown, and bring them in your trunk; it's not like they are standard issue, only the color is.
Welcome, good luck, and have fun. Maybe you'll see me next year strolling the halls in my fashionable D2 gear - the latest in the navy shade - as I yearn for my baby blues.

are you looking for a roommate?
Hey Jack,
Sorry, I got my brother living with me. If you like Cedar Key you should call their office and they might tell you who is looking for a roommate. Nova's website also has a roommate finder and so does rent.com
Hello Everyone,
I will be attending Nova this fall also. I am glad I was able to find this forum...just checked into SDN...cool site. I am from Charlotte, got my education at UNC-Chapel Hill but unfortunately didn't make it to dental school there. I am thinking about staying in the dorms also, hopefully its better than the dorms I used to stay in.

Just talked to Su-Ann last week and found out that your class will have the highest admission statistics since Nova Dental opened. Your class's GPA is above a 3.5 this year.
Year after year, Nova's admissions statistic have increase making our school more and more competitive to enter. I will receive the full accurate admissions statistics in August after our first week of school when the members of the class are stable where no one drops or comes in from the waiting list.
I was very happy to hear that our admissions statistics are go in the right direction and the quality of our student body is getting better and more well-rounded. Y'all are going to have some competition within the people in your class whether you like it or not, it seems like!
Just remember though, the Class of 2006 is ALWAYS better! 😀

Hello Everyone,
It seems like dorms are not the way to go but right now I don't have much of a choice. I am from Charlotte and don't know anything about Ft. Lauderdale. I have been to the place only once in my life (during the interview) and with my summer being busy, I don't think I can squeeze in another trip down there.
I wouldn't mind living in the apts and if someone is looking for a roommate please email me at [email protected]. I have a lot of catching up to do...I heard about this sight recently, I am signing up for the email account and I just recieved my Orientation packet a week ago.
I also just finished reading all the threads on this forum....people had a lot of interesting things to say but I think I am happy with the decision to attend Nova.
I had question about the teeth we are supposed to collect. Could anyone please give us more details on what kind they should be or any requirements.
And on the end note here......Just wanted to say hello to everyone attending Nova....can't wait to see you all during orientation.

The dorms are like dorms at any other school. However, it seems like you could get an apartment for the approx. the same price if you get a studio or find a roomate and get a 2 bedroom apartment. I think the Cedar Key and Sun Forest apartments are even closer to the dental building than the dorms are. In fact, much closer. Those apartments are luxury apartments in my opinion.

Hey Chin,
Welcome to SDN!
I found a roommate on the Nova roommate finder. She's from Florida, so she was able to take care of all of the arrangements for us. The dorms have a waiting list right now anyways (they're full I think) so unless you already reserved a spot, I'm not sure if you can get in there. It really is a lot cheaper than the apartments though. I think it ends up being around $300-400/month with utilities included versus $515/month plus utilities for the apartments. However, I think the apartments will be a lot more fun. And they're closer. That's just my opinion.
Good Luck!
Jessica

Hey Josh,
Where's Palm Trace? Is it close to campus? I haven't even heard of it. Congrats on figuring out where you'll be living.

Both apartments are awesome with lake view, trees and palm trees. It is cheaper if you have roommate to share with. Both are very close to school. I wish they have those kind of apartments in Cleveland.

It is about a mile from school on Nova drive. If you get off of 595 and head south on University towards school, you turn left on the street right before school which is Nova Dr. You head down that street for about a mile and its right there. In my opinion it is the nicest complex around school. I also got an awesome move in special, so that made it even better. From what i hear and saw, lots of HPD students live there. Where are you living?
JRogoff,
Could you tell me how much your rent is and the condition of your apartment.
Since we are going to there the end of this month to look for an apartment. Thanks

The rent is $1080 a month for a 2/2. All utilities are included except electricity. The condition of the appartments are awesome. Everything was just renovated within the last year. They're pretty much look new. They also have a brand new gym they just opened that is amazing, Flat screen TVs, indoor basketball court, it has it all. Trust me, go there and you will like it!

Palm trace is about 1-1.5 miles from school. I guess it is up to you if you consider that walking distance or not. And sorry, i am no longer looking for a roommate. Good luck in finding one.
Jessica, for you, you must stay in Pre-dental ALWAYS!! 😉
Palm trace is NOT walking distance to school, unless you consider a 20 - 30 minutes walk a walking distance. I would even discourage biking distance! You will need to drive living at Palm Trace.

Hi Everyone,
Does anybody know what sort of teeth are we supposed to collect. I know that we can go to the dentist in the area for them but is there a particular requirement on what type of teeth and how many do we need. PreMolars, Molars..etc and how many of them????
Chin

There is a memo in the back of the orientation packet about collecting teeth. The requirements are...
1. Collect as many as possible
2. Collect teeth with minimal or no decay
Once the teeth have been collected, simply put them in a 1:10 bleach solution. That is about all it says about collecting teeth. Hope this helps!

Chin:
As many as possible!! If you can only get 5, then it's 5! But if you can get 500, then get 500! It's always better to have more than little! Leave a jar at several offices including Oral Surgeons, GPs and Oral Surgeons! You'll need teeth for the following classes:
1st year:
1) Dental Anatomy - teeth ID
2) Operative Laboratory - natural tooth exercises
2nd year:
1) Endo Preclinic Laboratory
2) Fixed Prosthodontic Laboratory
Again, more the better!
