You got your award letter already? I called the Financial Aid office and they said that they will not process the 2006-2007 awards until May. This is weird.
I really want to know my financial aid status so I can prepare early.

Hey I havent received mine either, but after going to the office and then calling them the other day I THINK I have an idea....I guess if on Webstar your requirements/forms are all complete, they begin processing your financial aid. And for those like me, who are finishing their last semester of undergrad now, NSU needs to receive a final transcript before the "outstanding requirement" is met and they begin awarding. NSU knows everyone entering in the Fall will be done by May, so they start around May/June for those that JUST finished undergrad?? i don't know...I could be way off... 😕

isotope: are you finishing up undergrad now, or have you graduated already?

no, both Delia and Financial aid told me that they award you even if your final transcript is not in.

aw i thought i had a hunch there lol...oh well its good to know they award even w/o the transcript.

are you serious...when i called to inquire about being "officially admitted to a degree program" they said that will get cleared when I turn in transcripts, etc. And That is my only Outstanding requirements for the Fin Aid..

I have already graduated and have no outstanding requirements. I think you are right, they will not process you until you have your requirements all met.

that is my outstanding requirement too.
but i spoke to them and they said that you would still get awarded, BUT no funds will be given out until you met those requirements. but you have 90 days from when school starts to turn in the final transcript.

Thx for the clarification, please keep us all posted when you get the award info...

Anyone apply for the NHSC scholarship and get an interview? PM me and let me know if you have!

Is anyone still in school?
i have school until june 22nd and I'm just so tired 🙁

last test on 5/4...🙂 hang in there lunallena you are that much closer to livin the dream

I'm still in school and its killing me, no motivation left. Done with all my classes just trying to motivate myself to get a couple of papers out for publication and hand over my thesis to my advisors. Just ready to get down to sunny ft lauderdale.

I may have spent 500 on books this year, that's really part of your living expenses.

Yea...I was wondering about that too. When do thet let us know what books and supps we need?

Most of the expense comes in buying your "doctor kit": stethescope, otoscope/opthalmoscope, tuning forks, reflex hammer, etc. Wait until school starts to buy all of this stuff.

You will get a list of the "required" books, but about the only people who actually buy these are the military folks (since the military pays for them). In my opinion, the only books you NEED for first semester are: Physiology by Constanzo, Physical Diagnosis by Swartz, and a good anatomy atlas.

Dr. W also told us the amount of money for books is "padded" quite a bit so you have more money to spend on the outrageous cost of living in South Florida. 😉

During orientation you will have get a "Survival Guide to M1 handout and...at that time, we'll let you know what books worked for us. There is a book list that is published, but save your $$...it isn't worth buying most of those books unless you are Military.

are we sure of what color scrubs are yet? oh btw i got the backgrund check form today it was dated april 24. return by may 1st haha. school admin procrastination perhaps?

I don't think that ANYONE is sure on scrub color. The last meeting that I went to, Dr. W said that he would "Be happy to see us in any color of blue." That was "off-the-record." On the record, that last I heard was Royal Blue--which is what our class threw a fit about. You can't wear scrubs to orientation anyhow--I'd just wait until orientation and see what they say before you buy any (or many) pairs.

Email Dr. W if you really need to know.

hopefully enough people will bug him about it so we can get a definite answer..Btw I still havent gotten that packet about background check ...i guess i'll call them if it doesnt come in the next couple of days

-Edit: I received the packet on 4/27..10 days after the date on the letter..sent it out on 4/28

I would probably have to be your class...we have our "sorta" answer...and our class probably won't follow dress code regardless of what they say...

I got the packet last week on Monday the 24th of April. I cannot believe it is this late and still due the 1st of May. I think the administration will be fine if they are a little late. It is not like we will be starting school next month.

BTW, I have lots of blue scrubs. I have no idea if they are considered 'royal' blue though. I hope they just say we are blue. Do we really all need to look alike?

i just played tekken 5 dr for like 4 hours today. i hope my lifestyle will not be compromised in med school

Hey Michael
Thanks for taking the time to help. I was able to find the groups. My name is Alireza Salamat. And if there is anything I can help out with let me know.

On our listserv Leslie Jones posted that we should order scrubs through the bookstore. What does that mean? It sounded like that was the only approved scrub???

Forget it, I went to the pool at my apartment today for the second time since I've lived here.

Hey all,

you can keep your original facebook accounts... just go to My Account... then the Networks tab. You can add Nova then. You can also decide which school of yours to keep as the primary network. There is also an option to merge two facebook accounts if you've made another already. I know... i spend way too much time on Facebook.....

Okay....tell us about all of your trips to Hard Rock. And/or the beaches.

I'd also recommend getting 100% cotton scrubs if we're going to be wearing them 5 days a weak. The 65/35 poly/cotton blend ones may be a little more durable, but no where near as comfortable to wear. The cotton ones are better for hot wheather climates also.

The scrubs is not an issue, any would do. Unfortuantely, the coats can only come from one place which has the license to print the NSU logo.

when are we gonna have the academic society assignments!!

Academic societies are a new thing this year and no one really knows how it's going to pan out. Most of my class seems to think its kind of a silly idea, but whatever....

If you're looking to get advice on any particular topic, just send an email to the M1 or M2 class listserves.

If anyone needs a nice apartment to live in next year, I'll be moving out July 1st to begin rotations. Its a Sunforest Apartments, 5 minute walk across the street from school...lots of extras too! PM me if interested and I will send details.

Congrats on making it this far class of 2010...I hope everyone enjoys the program. Also feel free to PM me with any other questions you may have about Nova and such.

Question: So in this recent e-mail they have the medical spanish as the elective? Are there other electives to choose from or do they mean the class is optional?
