also, has anyone read the lender options page?
http://www.nova.edu/cwis/finaid/information/mpn.html

i'm so confused!!!!!!!! i heard sallie mae charges a lot of money in the form of a yearly fee, but they let you defer while in residency.
which lender are you guys using? i'm so confused.

On the access group website you can find lots of information on their med access loan.
Repayment on the loan...
"Begins 9 months after graduation or after enrollment status drops to less than half-time, as determined by your school, or after completion of a required medical residency, not to exceed a total of 57 months after the date of graduation"
I did not go through Sallie Mae because they charge an origination fee (3%) and access group does not, so save your money!

hey thanks! how about t.h.e the total higher education loans? that one seems appropriate too.

so if i choose access or t.h.e for my unsubsidized/subsidezed loans, do i have to wait till financial aid at NSU sends me the amount i qualify for , or do i apply directly with the lenders first?? does anyone know what the total unsub/sub amount available is? sorry for having so many questions. thank you all, god bless

hey luna..im using T.H.E. and so is Trent...and you have to apply through them as well as send in the loan request form

is anyone going to uniforms of america to try on the consultation jackets? i was looking at their size chart and i don't match any size 🙁 i think i might go there in person.
If you live down here, that may be a good idea. If any of the girls need an idea: I am 5'6, 120lbs, avg build, womens coat size 6. I have plenty of room in it, arm length is fine, and a size 4 would have fit me but I wanted the extra room for when the pockets get full.

Sorry boys, I have no clue...but I think someone told me that their sizes are close to suit coat sizes.

I'm having trouble with this. I keep calling the uniforms of america, but nobody picks up or someone does and hang ups!

None of my suits have any measurements anywhere on them. I will have to guess. Hope it fits.

But if anyone can help, my measurements are btw, 5'5", 130, small-medium body frame. (i wear size small shirts if that helps). I'll google and see if another company has a chart similar to uofa

hey FL-Doc my size doesn't match anything. i'm anywhere from a 4 to a 10 depending on what i look at. i called them yesterday and i'll probably pass by on saturday or friday to try it on.

Measure your chest circumference, that is your size. I you don't have a fabric tape measure just go to a place that sells suits and get sized.

I ended up using a friend's suit jack. Thanks for the help though.

For you guys who were wondering about what Academic Society that you are going to be in...you won't have to wait much longer.

I think everyone has been assigned to a society, and that everyone should be contacted by their individual presidents soon (note: we are in finals right now). ;-)
Yay for everyone who ends up in my society!

Hey everyone! I am an accepted student for 2010 & have an NSU email account. However, like an idiot I did not sign up for the listserv. I just found out about it from Delia today. So, I missed a bunch of emails and they told me they did not have a record of all the emails they sent out.

Could someone please forward me all of them? 🙂 I have gotten nothing as of today 5/11/06. I would REALLY appreciate. You can PM me & I will give you my NSU email account.
Thanks! 🙂

is anyone else interviewing for NHSC? i interview yesterday, oh man, they ask you SO MANY QUESTIONS. i came out of there with a headache. hehe.

i went to the uniform store today and if this might help some ladies: i'm 5'4 bust: 34" waist:27 hips:32" shirt size small for most, pant size=6 to 8. anywhere from 118 to 125 pounds,i tried on both size 4 and 6, and although both fit me, i chose the 6 because the lady said they tend to shrink and was also a bit more loose.
so yes it matches the size of my suit.

Wow. They sent out an email with all of our names. Our class size is about 235+ (give or take a couple of blank lines)? Wow. Really...

BTW, what is the cheapest rent for a 1/1 apartment? Lowest I found so far is $1k/month.

1K is about rite for a 1/1...u may want to look for a roomie...ive already found 2 roommates..to live in a 3/2...rent for me is 630...and for my roomies it'll be 565 and 505.. plus the bills are split 3 way..a lot more affordable in my opinion ..

Hey guys

I am looking for two roommates to rent a huge townhouse 0.5 miles from school. The rent would be 600 dollars each. I am also open to renting condo or apartment with just one roomate. If anyone is interested get in touch with me.

With the roomie thing, just don't do anything out of character for you. I agree, it is much more affordable to live with other ppl; however, if you tend to be the kind of person who likes to have time to yourself, do your own thing, and have lived alone before medical school be careful about having a roomie (it doesn't always work out well)....trust me, I can attest. If you aren't used to having a roomate, it can be significant added stress.

Nothing against my ex-roomie (good person), but I was SUPER stressed out all first semester and miserable because of hating the living situation, I even seriously considered quitting school. I am MUCH happier, MUCH less stressed, and my grades are MUCH better now that I am living on my own. It isn't worth failing out of medical school to save a few hundred bucks a month (especially when tuition is 30K/yr).

FL DOC...a little information on some a few places I am familiar with, but the 1K figure is probably pretty accurate.

I think that the cheapest 1br at my comlex is around 950 (Plantation Colony) and has all the amenities that the complexes down here have. It takes me about 10mins to get to school with traffic.

Cameron Cove starts around 930...has some fewer amenities (no dishwasher, no washer/dryer, small kitchen), but some utilities included so it ends up being less than most others. This place is across the street from school, defintely walking distance.

One more thing, make sure you ask about student discounts. Plantation Colony offers discounts to NSU students (not sure about anywhere else).

Wow...im sorry to hear that..hopefully i will not regret saving money and getting roommates..only time will tell..but because 1st year is easier than 2nd year..it is the best time to try and see if the roommate situation can be tolerable..i guess worse comes to worse i can do all of my studies at library or coffee shops..and just use my apt for sleep, shower, eat...Anyways..Goodluck on finals kai..

BTW..theres a thread on the financial aid forums saying that ppl are getting 34,400+ for unsub federal loans..do you know how much you guys will get awarded??

Those are not blank spots. I thought that too. Then I tried highlighting the blank area. They put some people in white text.

241 is a lot. I think the max in the auditorium is 250. Pretty close.

FYI: Max in Steele Auditorium is about 500.
We have 240 in our class + Masters Students + ppl repeating certain classes, and can still sit every other seat for testing...

I think that Morris (for 2nd year) is a bit smaller, but I'd say still over 400 probably.

I don't think second year is harder (but I'm not there yet). Almost everyone who fails out of medical school/repeats a year ends up repeating/quitting their first year. Second year is very different than first year. Nearly every person I have talked to (and many of my friends are 2ndy years) said that second year is much better, more clinically relevant, and that they like the material better (although the organization of some classes sucks and some professors really suck). Besides, it is nice to think that in five days--the most difficult year of my lifelong education is finished. ;-)

I'm sorry, I have no clue how much loan money is available to the ppl here. I am Military and the 15 of us are in a ballgame of our own when it comes to loans, payment, stipends, re-imburstments, etc (I think I am eligable for a max of about 17K per year).

Anyhow, back to studying...One more week. Yay!

I just accepted for NSU, I am interested in finding a good roommate!! Let me know more about it.

I just can't decide which one is best, I like the southern california location better, but it seems like NSU is a better school??
any input from anyone...please

i think you mean COMP..not PCOM..hehe..if you like the west coast...AND if the attendance policy/dress code dont bother you.i would go to COMP also if you want to do your residency in california..it may be easier to get in via COMP...however if you like the beach..and dont mind the attendance policy/dress code..then i would stick with NSU..the clinical rotation IMO is slightly better..

My friends girlfriend transfered from COMP to NSU last year, he's in my class. She seemed to like comp but is really liking NSU as well at least for her rotations, she's a 3rd year. As for the differences, she's said that NSU is far more relaxed about OPP, I think they had like 4 hours of lecture a week and there test were much harder. Thats compared to our 1 hour per week, and our tests are all that bad. Even that one hour seems like to much sometimes, but it's something to think about if your not into manipulation.

😱

400? There's elbow room only when 200 are in Morris..Next year you'll be sitting on each other's lap!

Maybe I am just used to seeing only 100 in class...

Hi 🙂

I'll be starting the PharmD program this August and I am currently looking for a female roommate to rent a room at Poinciana Place. For those of you who do not know, this is a very safe, desireable area located approximately 2-3 miles from Nova Southeastern. If you or anyone else you know is interested please PM me and I can tell you a little bit more about myself and the condo. Thanks! 🙂

I have a move in date of July 10 but don't know when I will go down there probably for medstart. Anyone else in Cameron Cove?

yea, they still have me as an out-of-state student. If anybody out there is an in-state student-and that shows on your statement-let us know how you managed that.

Did anyone get confirmation back after e-mailing about doing roes or medstart? I think I am signed up??

This happens every year and probably won't be fixed until AFTER you start school. Don't worry about it too much...you'll get your money. 🙂

Ask NSU they have to have a plan for contingencies already in place as to what will be done to make up lost days. All the schools have dates picked as make-uo because of national standards universities must meet as to instructional hours provided. Last year at FAU they had to have one make up day with the night courses but not the day courses and we missed a week because of Wilma.
