NSU-COM Discussion Thread 2009-2010

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
To the life long (or very long time) Florida residents:
What was enough supporting documentation to prove your residency? I can provide a lot of what they're asking for in the documentation but I'm not sure how much is too much. Is my taxes for the last 3 years and drivers license enough? Please let me know what you turned in. Thanks!

I gave them as much stuff as I could easily find...I figure if they can't stipulate how many items they need/require, then they can search through the pile of paper that I sent them...I would rather send too many items, then not send enough and possibly lose my in state status.

Congrats to all of those who have been accepted recently!

I got IN!!!!

So I emailed Ellen Rondino about 20 minutes ago to let her know that I was still interested in the 2010 school year and about 5 minutes later she calls to accept me!!! She said that I was actually the next name on her list of ppl to call when she got my email!

I cant' stop smiling 🙂

Good luck to everyone still waiting. This is a great community here on studentdoc and I'd be honored to have any of you in my class

has everyone's residency status changed to "in state" who are florida residents? I sent my residency forms in with the acceptance packet in December. But I am still considered "out of state."

I just got an e-mail from Luz Rodriguez yesterday stating that they had processed my residency application (finally!). Check your NSU e-mail, and it may be there... I still show as out of state under the "Overall financial aid status," but my tuition bill shows me in state...

you got called that early??can anyone tell me what number they are calling from??? just as fyi for me 🙂

I don't know why it says 7:25am, but I received the call just before 10:00am.

The call was from Ellen Rondino from area code (954).

I've never been so happy to spend $2000 !!

I just got accepted!!!

I was on my driving on my way to another medical school with 2 cars full of furniture when NSU called me! I immediately accepted the offer and made a U turn back home!! 😀

I just got accepted today! I'm from New York and know nothing about living in Florida, if anyone knows anything, please PM me. As of right now I'm probably dorming it for the first semester till I figure out what's what. And it really is never too late to get an acceptance. 😀 Congrats to all of us late additions!!!! 😍

I heard that Rolling Hills (the Grad apartments) are full as of now. Call to check but you may want to look around. There are plenty of places around campus.

congratulations!! It must be a great feeling right? 🙂 So that's why you decline LECOM-B seat. I hope to fill in your seat at LECOM-B:xf:.

congratulations!!!🙂 Did they call or email you? Did you do anything to enhance your file?
Hi..i received a call from Ellen Rondino around 2pm.. They sent me an acceptance package through e-mail around 4. The only thing I did to enhance my file was to update on my EC's in response to the e-mails asking if I wanted to remain on the alternate list. Hang in there = ). I interviewed 01/28.

Feel free to send me a PM if you have any specific questions...Life long Floridian...Also if the dorms are full, and you don't want to get an apartment sight unseen, there is always the option of one of the "residence type" hotels where you can get an efficiency by the week for a decent price...Might be a good option for some people who won't have time to find a place before school starts...

And congrats to all of those recently expected!

I withdrew from my spot at Nova today... I loved the school and planned on attending for over a year now. I am very sad to say I will no longer be attending, because I was just accepted to a school in Tampa, my hometown. It is financially a much better option, although I really loved Nova. I have played the waiting game for two years now... so I know how much torture it is to wait. I am glad that someone else will have the opportunity to get my position this late in the cycle and attend this amazing medical school. Good luck to all of you! 👍😀

Wow axel, congrats! USF I am assuming? Goodluck to you.

Hi Everyone,

Although osteopathic school is NOT my back up at all, I am applying to allopathic schools that match my qualifications, and those in my state, because in the end I want to be a physician. So, for the question 'are you applying to allopathic schools, and if so which ones,' for NOVA, I put in a little disclaimer that osteopathic medicine is my main focus - would you all advise for or against this?

Thanks!
Tarun

don't do it!

they're not stupid, they realize that people want to get into medical school and hence apply all over the place. if you write that, it'll make you look kind of like a liar, since if being a DO is your main focus, why apply MD? I applied to a ton of schools-MD and DO. NSU didn't hold that against me at all.

Congrats all!

Might I reiterate that i have a room for rent (furnished) in a house (also furnished) that comes with utilities aaaaall included! It's about 5 miles from school but it's always a very easy drive in.

PM me for pictures/details 🙂

I agree...Don't do it. Answer the question honestly and completely, but don't offer any extra BS. Has more of a chance to hurt your app than help...

I JUST GOT IN!!!!! :soexcited: Better late than never!!!! now to find a place a live....

Nice!!! Congratulations!! I think I can actually see you doing what your smiley is doing right about now. That has to be a huuuuuge load off.

Is Jackson at all receptive to qualified DO applications for their general surgery residency ? I speak spanish fluently btw.

hey everyone! question... did you guys just call your doctors and ask what year they graduated from medical school? i guess its not that big of a deal but i'm wondering if you guestimated or actually called their office to ask them.

thanks!!

Got the email saying I was accepted at Nova last Thursday. 🙂 The 1,250 acceptance fee is due in December so I could in theory wait until the Texas match list in November before paying Nova that fee and still have my seat kept open?

Hey guys,

I was just wondering about how long did Nova take in offering an interview? I received an email from them on Oct 13 giving me the NSU ID b/c I guess they had just received my new MCAT scores....I had my secondary already completed and by Sept 15 even though they didn't change it's "acceptance" until Oct 11. Do they still invite to interviews without the LOR in? I'm still waiting on my DO letter & my university won't release the letters out until the packet is "complete" aka...I have to wait longer, hopefully by the end of the week or beginning next week. I guess I'm just starting to get really nervous since it's starting to get late into the application cycle.

Hey NOVA hopefuls- just found out I was accepted to an in-state school this morning so I am cancelling my 12/02/10 interview. Call and snag it!! Good luck!!

When you interviewed did they ask you anything about whether you would stay in Florida and practice, or why exactly you wanted to go to NOVA? I ask this because I am from the NW and have never been to Florida, i.e. no real ties. But I want to be a doctor and would like to branch out. Any thoughts?
