they know your file well. i just decided it would be funny to make a joke about alcohol. i'm pretty much the biggest idiot that ever interviewed for med school.

Don't beat yourself up over it. So you made an unfunny joke, all it really means is that you were nervous. The interviewers know that we are all nervous and take it into account when evaluating us. How was the rest of your interview?

We were told that it would be snail mail as opposed to an email. Webstar, I'm not so sure about. Anybody else?



I ended up staying two days after my interview too since I was staying with a friend that works for the dolphins. Sounds like the beach was a good time, but I found that a DD is pretty important closer to the school. I did see that shark bus swing by a bar but I'm betting that if you don't live in student housing it is less than convenient. These things will of course be of little concern to students.

I think they said it will be on Webstar as well.

I would have much rather spent a few days after my interview there, then there is no more stress. Sounds like you had a good time.

i followed up with a "just kidding" but by then it was too late. the rest of the interview went about average. i'm trying not to beat myself up too much about it.

I would say that I enjoyed the area enough to look forward to the possibility of living there but not to the point that I imagine there being much in the way of distractions. A good term to sum up my experience of the school and area would be "pleasant."

Okay, its been two weeks since our interview, and I STILL think that's funny. Clearly we were just there on a bad day.

As someone who has interviewed others for jobs before, if someone had the confidence to tell me that joke, and was qualified everywhere else, they'd have gotten my recommendation 🙂

Plus, rejections only hurt until you get your first acceptance. Then it's more like, "WTF is that schools problem? Why don't they want my sexy ass filling one of their seats? 😉

so i interviewed yesterday and wow...i LOVE NSU. everything from the hybrid curriculum to the rotations. the facilities were awesome, the people were cool, and the place felt so lively with all the other health professional students on campus. it felt like a more mature college atmosphere. the school is a bit pricey but i think its worth it with everything the school has to offer

i really really hope i get accepted but unfortunately, I'm most likely gonna get a waitlist/rejection . my interviewers were really nice and not trying to stress me out at all, and all the questions they asked were the standard questions. but i ended up rambling for some reason and i dont think it looked too good. plus, we had a really cool interview group that day so its gonna be tough to compete with you all!

I heard back a week later.

You'll be fine. I rambled and thought I did terrible, and pretty sure it was my worst interview out of the three I've been to, and I ended up getting an acceptance offer.

No, I won't. There were some things I really liked about Nova, but others I wasn't 100% sure about. They seemed to a little bit less non-trad/family friendly than the other schools. I did like that they seemed to have solid rotations for yrs 3/4 though. I don't think they liked that I wasn't doing a lot of community service. But honestly, I do have to put my current schooling and family ahead of a lot of volunteering.

I ended up with one from DMU, and even though I wasn't sure if I was going to attend or not, it still stung. You're sitting on some nice acceptances and won't have any problem getting your family to fit in at DMU. They seemed very family friendly as well. 😉

This process is seriously so strange; I thought DO schools would show me more love than MD, but that hasn't been the case.

Dude, this process is soooo strange. You shouldn't sweat it. I think Nova just sent out a big batch of invites early on and will most likely send another by mid December, is my guess. I haven't seen anyone get a new invite in quite a while.

Samezies, DocTraveler... except I don't have much connection to Nova alum besides my mom who got her Masters in education there like 20 years ago. Oh well. But like people are saying, I haven't heard of any recent interview invites for a while so who knows. Just try and stay positive.

Yeah, those deposits are brutal! I actually think I'm going to put my deposit down at another school. I liked Nova quite a bit, but I just feel that other school is a better fit for me.

I think you'd be in great shape. I'm not too sure if applying this year may be too late or not, but if we're talking strictly numbers, I was accepted with nearly identical stats but that was early in the cycle. So here's my take on your situation:

Your MCAT score is great. Congrats on a job well done. Don't sweat the 3.3 too much. You're not the first to have a poor freshman year and get accepted to medical school. Its great that you have so much experience as a paramedic - it demonstrates your commitment to health care and indicates that you have an understanding of how the field works. Going back for a post-bacc definitely helps you in applying, no matter what school that is, and having a strong GPA from it. For the post-bacc to be more beneficial to you, I'd suggest doing another semester worth of credits. For AACOMAS that should get you up to around 3.4 or better (if you continue with 3.7+ in your post-bacc) and its further indication that you can achieve scholastically and be able to handle the academic rigors of medical school. IMHO, NSU, and DO schools in general, appreciate non-trads and those with extensive health care experience. That should bode well for you. The only concern is how late in the cycle it is beginning to get. Have you submitted AACOMAS yet? If you have, and you're simply debating whether to add NSU, then it depends how deep they are into interviewing applicants. Maybe someone here who's recently receive an invite can say what their date was. Not that anything is a 100% certainty, but if you applied early in the next cycle, I'm positive you would get accepted from a number of schools. If NSU is your #1 and your dead set on it though, and don't want to waste another year, then nows the time and apply ASAP. Its getting later in the game, but if you get everything in to NSU quickly and are complete, I think you are a competitive applicant.

hey everyone! I am a current M1 at NSU and I hope that the application process isn't driving you too crazy. We just finished our 2nd cycle of test chaos and I finally have a few days to breathe, sleep, and have a few (many) beers. I want to say congrats to everyone that has been admitted so far! A good deal of the people I gave tours to have gotten in and I hope to see you all next year. Take this time to relax before the chaos of med school studying begins. If you are waiting to hear back don't be afraid to call the office and let them know you are still interested - just be friendly!

If anyone has any questions about the school, living situations down here, what to expect, or any other random nonsense shoot me a message! Good luck on the whole application process; i know it is a pain but it is so worth it!

As a fellow Non-trad, I agree with all that is said here. We are lucky to have a system (AACOMAS) that recognizes that people might not have committed to medicine at the end of high school. I am completely convinced that we will become better physicians because of it and this farsightedness is one reason why I will be proud to soon call myself a student DO. Don't worry, apply this cycle and next cycle if you have to. One way or the other, it will work out.

Oh one more piece of advice: if 15 credits are barely a year's worth of classes, take another half year. You should have at least one year in your postbac.

Thank you all for your replies! I think since it is so late in the cycle, I am going to apply next year very early to maximize my chances and minimize how much money I spend on the application process! I also liked the fact that the DO schools seem to care more about work experience from what people tell me and a couple of great docs that I have worked with are DO's.

I'm taking my post-bac classes part time since I work full time, so I can take a few more. I could possibly have 30 credits by the time I would start med school if I apply next year, so I hope that would strengthen my application.

I just got accepted with a 3.2 uGPA and a 32R MCAT. Your stats are better than mine so you probably have a pretty solid shot. 👍
