Please post any questions, information, or progress about this years application cycle to Nova. Now that I've officially submitted, all I can do is wait and hope I get a secondary. I would love to go here, but am a little concerned about the cost of living.

Best of luck to those applying this year. I'll be starting down at Nova in August, and am happy to answer any question you all may have as you apply and (hopefully) interview here.

+1

To the applicants:

As you apply to med school over the next few months: Things are going to be tough--you have a lot of paperwork to fill out, a lot of waiting to do, and a lot of emotional moments ahead of you: But best of luck!

I'm an M2 here at NSUCOM so if you have any questions you'd like me to answer to help make things just a little bit easier: feel free to ask!

What does the secondary look like for those who have received it? I'd like to get a head start ...

I'm not 100% certain, but I do not believe anyone has received NSU's secondary yet for this cycle. Also, from what I've read, their past secondaries were quite easy to fill out with no essays and just typical application questions to answer.

NSU is definitely one of my top choices so I've been religiously checking my email every hour hoping to see an invite for their secondary haha.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Last years secondary questions were:

1.) Are you acquainted with an osteopathic physician (e.g., family physician, relative, or close friend)? If so, please provide name, relationship to physician, institution and date of graduation and where they earned their osteopathic degree (in that order).

2.) Please indicate which of the following applies. I grew up in a community of : - Less than 10,000 people - 10,000 to 50,000 people - More than 50,000 people

3.) If you were employed during the regular school year (excluding summers) while in undergraduate or graduate school, please list dates of employment beginning with your current position along with title or job description, level of responsibility, and number of hours per week.

4.) List your significant health care-related activities since graduation from high school. List dates of involvement, level of responsibility, and number of hours per week.

5.) List all the osteopathic medical schools to which you are applying this year or to which you have applied in the past. Please indicate the year you applied, the college(s), whether you received an interview and what is your current status with that college. Please use the following format: date applied, institution applied, interview, and status of application.

6.) List all the allopathic medical schools to which you are applying this year or to which you have applied in the past. Please indicate the year you applied, the college(s), whether you received an interview and what is your current status with that college. Please use the following format: date applied, insitution applied, interview and status of application.

7.) If you have ever matriculated into an M.D. or a D.O. program, please explain reason(s) for leaving. Please use the following format: date, institution, status. If non-applicable, please type "none".

Good luck to all of you applying!

Hi current students 🙂

I had a couple of questions and I was wondering if you would be able to give us all a bit more information:

Are there opportunities for global health learning or to do international electives or summer programs?

Where do we do our clerkship rotations (do we get to choose what order and where or is it a lottery?) Will we be working with M.D. students or just D.O.'s?

How much time do we have off to study for the COMPLEX/USMLE?

Do you feel that there is a great emphasis on primary care or are many wishing to specialize? If you wished to specialize, would the school support this or steer you back towards primary care?

Thank you in advance and I hope I get the opportunity to meet with some of you this year!

Question 6 scares me. I plan to apply to a ton of them (10 atleast) and I feel like it will look bad if im throwing a hail mary at every school. Do you think NSU really accounts how many schools you apply to?

the consensus last year was that it did not matter how many schools you put down.

I applied to 22 other schools, and it did not hurt me at all. Just answer it honestly, and don't worry about it! 😀

so what about if you applied to allopathic (MD) schools also...does that hurt you?

I applied to both allopathic (12) and osteopathic (11) schools. It was never an issue that was brought up by the school at any time.

I might be late to the party on this, but I found the supplemental application on their website under Application Procedure. On the right side you'll see Check Application Status and a link to WebSTAR. Follow the instructions in there to apply to the DO program.

I called and verified with them that this is the secondary app. They said since I found it, go ahead and submit it even though I haven't gotten an e-mail yet. I also sent my LORs.

Questions are the same as listed above.

I'm wondering if anyone in here has gotten into Nova Southeastern University? If you have or if someone you know has, please answer:

What were your

1. GPA & MCAT scores?
2. Did you have any Cs on your record?
3. What were your extracurriculars/research?

Thanks to anyone who can help.

This is 2004 data, but hey...

1. I had a 3.4 GPA and a 30 on my MCAT. I took it twice and got a 30 the second time also.

2. I did have a few C's on my record, notably in organic chem (both semesters). The rest were in spanish (my undergrad had a requirement of 4 semesters of foreign language and I got C's in 3 of them).

3. I was an EMT, an ER tech, and had a few research projects (as primary and secondary investigator).

Nova Southeastern was my top choice and I got in.

Nice. Did anyone fill it out yet?

I guess I'll go ahead and do this. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be screened out for a secondary, so I don't think it will hurt to send it before the email. Too bad they don't accept a fee waiver.

I'll just have to squeeze another $50 out of the budget.

I filled it out. Very easy supplemental. A welcome break from essays, ha

I filled it out. It would be nice if you could see a copy of your app after you submit, but all I get is a short little summary with little information. I would especially like this because after I paid I got an error page, but when I checked my cc the payment had gone through.

I'm glad I re-checked though because it looks like you are supposed to print a signature page and mail it to them.

i got accepted but declined after getting into my top choice...
my stats:

1. GPA & MCAT scores?
GPA- 3.66 undergrad
3.67 grad school
MCAT- 27O
2. Did you have any Cs on your record?
Nope
3. What were your extracurriculars/research?
shadowed both a DO and a MD
student gvnm't senator
conference delegate (grad school)
club founder
Resident Assistant
a published abstract for a poster presented at a major conference(grad school)
and other stuff..

anyways, hope this helps! good luck!

Wow thanks for the heads up, I didn't even see that because the last page asks for a virtual signature so I assumed that was it.

Hi,
Did anyone receive a secondary invite? Do they send out an invite or are we supposed to find it ourselves?

No, we haven't received the invite yet, but several of us are just going ahead and filling it out. A PP called them and was told it was ok, so unless your stats are really bad, it's probably safe.

Umm, why has this thread been moved from the school specific forum to the main forum? I was wondering why I couldn't find it before and had to do a search through my previous posts.

I'm 100% sure I originally started this thread in the School specific forum.😕

Edit: Guess they moved it back. It really was in the other forum - I'm not crazy. 😉

1) Yes, some people do international rotations and there are definitely mission trips to Jamaica, Haiti and I think Guatemala (may be another country in C.A.) also you can do rural selectives abroad.

2) Most students are at Broward General, Mount Sinai, AHEC at http://medicine.nova.edu/do/clinical_rotation.html you can find more info. I believe you put in your choice and the admin takes care of it. MD/DO students depends on the hospital and service.

3) It's about 2 months.

4) Primary care is emphasized but we have a 50-50 match list. There is a rural focus, you need to complete 2 rural selectives. The match list used to be available but is no longer online.

I'm a BS/DO student so take this with a grain of salt.

Haha I saw that too... very weird.

So who all went ahead and filled out the secondary through webstar?

I just did and got the same error message after paying. It's got me feeling a little uneasy, not going to lie.

Hopefully we receive an email from them in the next couple of days! :xf:

You'll get an email confirming the payment, then within a day or two you get a follow-up email. It contains a .pdf file of your application, but I couldn't for the life of me get it to open, so if anyone figures out how, let us all know 🙂

To open the .pdf file, it should ask you for a password once you've downloaded it. Type in the usename you used to create your profile/application on their site.

Good luck! :luck:

Can't, when I open it it says:

"The file “NSU Web Admissions Application.pdf” could not be opened. It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize."

Dunno... I'm on a Mac if that makes a difference. I tried to open it in Adobe Reader, Adobe Acrobat Professional, and Preview to no avail.

You filled out the secondary and paid before receiving an invite?

Mine wouldn't open on a mac either. So I scooted over a desk. SAVED the file to the desktop on a PC, opened it, put in the pw and there it was.

Nothing special though. It wasn't formatted all that well and there was no magical additions or deletions from the queries.

I wouldn't sweat it too much.

Yeah, BigBoosting called and they said it was fine to fill it out without an official invite.

Okey dokey, thanks!

Don't worry about the error. I received the email from them yesterday with the pdf, and it looks fine.

I wonder what they think about all us impatient SDNers sending in our secondary before an invite.

They probably thought, "Oh, one guy filling it out early, no big deal."

Little did they know...

I got the elusive secondary invite today via email. Guess I was only a few days too early in submitting it. 🙂

Good luck y'all!:xf:

Me too.🙂

I clicked the email link just to double check I had gone to the right place and logged in, and it says I have 2 processed applications - one July 6 & one July 7. I hope I didn't mess anything up by submitting early.

Does anyone else have 2?

Ha I just saw the same thing and came here to post what you posted....

So yeah I have two "processed applications"....I guess since we both have it, it's ok.

Also, under "application preference" does yours say "not entered?"

Oh man, I was just looking over the pdf of my application and realized I made a mistake. Where it asks the other DO & MD schools you've applied to, I only listed the names. I didn't include the date and status. I don't know why I didn't notice that they wanted more info.

They are all from this year and the status' are all the same - submitted.

I hope they don't hold this against me. I guess it's better than using the wrong name in an essay.

Yep I have two too. Dunno why.

I also have 2 as well and I waited for the email to come out (I just submitted it). So its everyone, not just those of you who filled it out early 🙂

I just paid, and got the error report message.

I don't know see a page to print and sign. Where do I go for this? And did you mail it in already?
