NSU-COM Discussion Thread 2011-2012

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Can anyone provide a detailed checklist of what to do after one has been accepted?

+1.

I know my email says that the $1250 deposit is due by 1/14. I think we'll start finding out more details this week because the admissions office should be back in business starting today.

Yes, not sure if you guys received your acceptance packets yet, but it says it in there. First step would be to pay your deposit at https://touchnet.nova.edu, click on university store, then on College of Osteopathic Medicine, then Student Deposits, and finally COM DO Program First Deposit....that's pretty much the first step.

Does anyone know how to set up the @nova.edu email account? I went to the sharklink website but it keeps saying my username/password is wrong...most likely because I don't think I've ever set that up

Congrats to everyone that got in! I was accepted today from the 12/9 experience day and am really excited.

Since the admissions office seems to have issues answering phone calls, I was wondering if anyone here knows why Nova charges $8,988 for Books and Supplies. Is this figure accurate? Does anyone know if that figure only applies to the first year?

Congrats guys!

Here's how to set up the sharklink account (I did it a while ago so hopefully I'm right...if you have problems just call the help desk and they will guide you through it)

Go to sharklink.nova.edu
-->Forgot password (near upper left hand corner, in dark grey)
-->scroll ALL the way down and it says Students, Emplyees, Alumni, and click RETRIEVE YOUR ID, etc and there should be instructions.

Hope I'm right.

And btw guys the FB thread for people who are attending NSU-COM for sure has a lot of action going on so feel free to join the group and post/ask questions there!

Anyone else interviewing the 10th and staying at the Holiday Inn Express?

I was complete in mid November and haven't heard back. Anyone in a similar situation?

Call them or email them.. what are your stats?

3.6c/3.8s
28O
Degree in pharmacology
2 years working medication safety

I called but they say it's still under review - basic response i guess.

I've been complete since September as is one of my friends (about the same stats)....I'm assuming they're just really slowwwwww 🙁

Hmm...

Well NOVA traditionally interviews and hands out interviews very early in the cycle. Applying in November seems a tad bit late.

Wait it out though and see I suppose

Good to know I'm not the only one i guess 😳 I'm hoping now that the holidays are over things will start ramping up :xf:

yeah it made me feel better that i wasnt the only one when i found out that my friend was in the same boat. hopefully we will hear some good news sometime (sooner rather than later! lol) :xf:

complete in August, then sent in an update for accepted manuscript and an additional letter of recommendation from a DO.. and still no good news. I'm starting to lose hope for Nova.

PBL at LECOM Bradenton is starting to sound better by the day...especially with the much lower cost of attendance...but CMON NOVA! I just want to know!

Yeah...I have an interview at Seton Hill early Feb. So I'm not totally out of luck. NSU is my top choice though. My wife and I both work for the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland and it would be perfect if she could transfer to our Weston FL location (5 mins from NSU).

That's a really good reason to want to attend NSU. Good luck to you!
NYCOM is my top DO choice for location reasons as well, but NSU is a close second.

you need to pay the first deposit for this to work?

I was accepted into the program, but haven't received anything in the mail from Nova.
I was part of the experience day 12/9, and only learned that I got in on 1/3.

Can anyone tell me what the admissions packet included?

HI All,

I am interviewing on 1/19.

-I was just curious about the format of the interview, and what type of questions they posed (such as questions about your application, or questions based on the osteopathic profession in general).

Congratulations on your acceptances,

PNN

I have no advice for you (still waiting for II myself)... When were you complete?

Thanks!

I am not sure when my application was complete, but I was sent an interview invitation on 12/2.

Do you guys know if we're supposed to sign up for classes manually once we're accepted or do they sign us up for the classes automatically?

Turning down my acceptance, best of luck to those of you on the wait list...

You'll get an email to register for your classes. It's manually, but it's fairly straightforward - you'll just pick out all the classes for your semester and year and sign up for all of them, and it will say in the email how many credits you should end up with, so you'll know you're not missing any.

Hi! I'm interviewing Jan 24. Are there any current students that student-host? I am from Ohio and would love a place to stay the night of the 23rd.

Does anyone know when the admissions committee will be meeting next?

Hey guys, I stalk the threads more than I post on them. I did the 11/4 experience day, got waitlisted, and then got accepted about a week before Christmas. I paid my deposit last week so YAYYYY!! I'm finally a med student! lol

I'm so glad I got into Nova, it makes the fact that I totaled my car driving to Ft. Lauderdale for the experience day slightly less depressing 🙁

Wow that really stinks, but congratulations!

Hey all! just wanted to share some frustrating details so maybe make some of you feel better about not getting an interview yet. I've been calling NOVA since Sep to make sure they got everything and then called again last week since I did not get an interview yet. As the lady was going over the list of things I turned in she told me that I attended an interview back in August. Obviously this was not true. After she talked to admissions she said that I would know by the end of the month whether I get one or not and tried to explain that this had no effect on whether I had an interview or not even though admissions thought I had one already . I have such good luck lol good luck to everyone!!

Nothing yet....did she say when we were suppose to hear?

Accepted! :soexcited:

Got the email today at 4:44pm. No call, just an email. And she said we were supposed to hear this week (week of the 23rd), so I'm sure you should be hearing back soon! 🙂

Anyone know good hotels to stay at nearby?
The area is pretty tourist-y....and expensive.
It has nightclubs and casinos and really nice scenery and weather...not the best for a med student...hah. (I'm from Delaware). It looks like a sweet vacation spot.

NSU now has all of my letters. Let's do this...

Anybody know how many interview dates are left?

Wondering this, myself. Complete since early October and haven't heard anything back. Have emailed twice just to make sure that my file was complete, which it is. I called on Monday to check again, and the nice woman who I spoke with said they are interviewing through February, so we should be hearing soon. Can't imagine there are too many spots open anymore, though, so I am kind of discouraged. Each school must have their own process because I was accepted to CCOM (as an OOS) in mid-December, only a few weeks after my interview.

OOS: 3.7/31

In the same position. Complete late October, OOS 3.8, 28, not a word from them. I think it's silly to wait till the end of the season to reject ppl you are not going to interview. Had 5 other interviews, but not a peep from NSU or KCUMB.
