NSU-COM Interview Discussion thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I remember Rachel telling us on the interview day that both accepted and wait-listed applicants will be contacted whereas rejected ones will not be contacted. Just be patient guys; I am sure you all will hear back something on Monday.

how do they not contact rejected applicants? that sounds kinda weird lol

that just means they don't call, just send letters. Lol, would you want to make rejection phone calls? But if you didn't get a call, dont worry, sometimes they just get busy and send letters for everyone. The call is a courtesy thing they try to do.

I have an interview tomorrow, what do I need to know? I wasn't home to get the packet of info. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi Jim, ill be joining ya, i just rode out to the school today to know where to go for sure so i wouldnt be late.

I second Jim's question, novas website is awfully vague about the cirriculum and things that we shuold generally know about the school before the interview such to answer a question like "Why did you apply to nova" etc.

is there any information SDNers can pass along to us for tomorrow?

So for you, guys, who has not received a package before the interview, did you receive a confirmation for your interview? I e-mailed them back with the date when I want to come, but have not heard anything afterwards. I just want to make sure that they received my e-mail.

So has anyone heard from them yet today?? If I don't get a call today I'm going to have a pretty hard time not freaking out!! It doesn't help that I haven't gotten a single other interview invite yet! 🙁

Nate.

i still haven't heard!! 🙁
but a friend of mine from the same interview day (sept 14) already got in! i'm assuming she found out by phone. she was in-state.

I didn't... hopefully we just get it via snail mail.

i interviewed the 21st and havent heard anythin yet...they said theyd call by monday (today) does this mean i didnt get in??

Welcome to the club...running consensus is that they said they would "TRY" to call be today. Only one person on SDN so far has admitted to getting a call and that was Friday afternoon. No call for me today...which means I'll probably be checking the mail box neurotically for the rest of the week or until I get something! :scared:

Nate.

Why don't you guys call the admissions office and ask them over the phone? At least ask them whether all accepted applicants were contacted via phone. I hope you guys hear something positive. Good Luck!

NSU admissions called Tyrone, called him
And Told him come on, we'll Help you get your degree

I interviewed the same day as you (colorado!) and still haven't heard either. But don't go by me, my interview pretty much sucked so I don't exactly expect an acceptance.

I drove out to the campus but am unsure of where we need to go tomorrow. If anyone can help as far as where to park and where the admissions office is I would greatly appreciate it!

hey, the instructions included in the packet said u turn across from the texaco gas station or something.. that is wrong, its actually a shell station, we had that problem this morning too.. the first building on the left is the terry building, its huge and has TERRY written on it.. just after that is the parking garage that you need to park in.. im getting dropped off so i wont need that.. see ya tomorrow

look for josh

is the Terry building where we need to go?? I never got the packet

I know I should be in bed, since I'm interviewing tomorrow, too.. but you need to go to the Terry Building, and once you enter you turn right through the wooden double doors towards Admissions. Terry Bldg is a 5-story marble front bldg with heavy columns and a circular driveway. It says you should come early and try to find parking in front of the 5-story garage...or just in the garage. I'm taking a cab, so if you need to borrow my parking pass, I'll bring it with me!

See you tomorrow!

My name is Seema, by the way!

So i talked to admissions and they told me not to worry about not getting a call. Apparently the admissions person is on vacation til next week. She said they either sent them or will be sending them really soon. So i guess well just have to wait for the mail.. 😱

i hope they sent them out.

Just got out of the interview, that person was still on vacation so don't expect a phone call.

i have my interview next tuesday 10/9/07. And I have yet to recieve a packet or anything. Has anyone that is supposed to interview next week recieved anything, and if so what did it say?

thanks

u can email [email protected] i believe thats the correct email address today.. he told us hes in charge of that and hes bad about gettin that stuff out

ya the admissions office seemed disorganized, plus they didn't even know the dean wasn't in town. I expected much more, very beautiful campus and facilities though!! I never received the packet either and didn't find it as a disadvantage during the interview. Atleast in my interview, they seemed like they had already made a decision on my file (not sure if its favorable) before they even met me. It was very short and they didn't ask much. I would have liked to have heard the Dean speak but such is life. Good luck everyone!

even though the dean rambles a little, his mustache was no doubt memorable, and tears almost came to my eyes when he talked about what an incredible responsibility and unique experience it is to be a physician. he reminded us about how you get to be the first person to welcome a new life to the world, holding a baby even before the mother does. you are present at a very sacred time as some of your patients near the end of their lives... so true and so inspiring.

Dean Silvigani is a great speaker, and a very inspiring one at that. But don't take the admissions office's overall performance as evidence of the school in general. It seems that admissions offices all over have issues, but I know that I am really enjoying the experience here at NSU, and as is stated above the facilities are top noch, and the professors are great as well, at least in my opinion.

I thought the staff were very competent and I really liked everything about the school. It is tied with CCOM and MSU for my top choices. I wouldn't mind getting in at any of the three.

I have my interview on 10/9/07 too. I received the packet very last minute. It was pretty sloppy looking especially the terrible photocopied items.

i share similar sentiment, but i was more impressed with the campus than i was displeased with the lack of organization. your interview seemed to be an exception, some of the others were longer. Also, my main concern right now is the cirriculum. The NSU students seemed signifiucantly more stressed than the KCUMB students i interacted with. and the exam every single monday thing scares me a lot. it seems like u wont have a chance to breath. I plan on trying to talk to as many nova and kcumb students as i can between now and dec but im not gonna make my decision anytime soon assuming im accepted to nova (which i am hoping)

You do have an exam every week, but you won't have 5 exams in one week.

true but now i have to decide which id rather have... even though that one week would be murder, id at least beableto go out on SOME weekends once in a while rather than never

btw, im just playing devils advocate right now, im very split, im going to have a real hard time with this

I interviewed there the 28th. I'm so antsy for the results.

Are you waiting this week as well? I interviewed on the 21.

Is anyone going to be at the Nova Interview for October 4th?

Hey kids...
I'm new to the NSU forum.
Do you know how I go about checking the status of my app? I was assigned an NSU #, but I can't find where to use it.
Also, how long after you guys were complete were you notified of an interview? How were you notified?

I think this is the single most important factor in choosing a med school. For me, the almost (you do get a couple of weeks off here and there to party for a weekend + we usually go out Monday nights after the exams) once a week testing is perfect. I can at least devote a few days in a row to a single subject if need be, rather than worrying about a block of exams that I would have probably procrastinated for anyways. But if this does not fit your learning style than I suggest looking elsewhere, like UMDNJ. However, if NSU's testing schedule sounds like it's your kind of thing, I think this is an amazing medical school and I am very glad I decided to come here.

kuba wer eu accepted anywhere else when you made the choice to go to NSU.. i wanna tlak to some people in the next few weeks about how they made their choices.

Hey Kuba,

If you don't mind me asking, what were your stats when you applied to medical schools? Also which ones did you get accepted to that you ultimately declined to go to Nova and for what reasons?

I interviewed at Nova on the 25th and the school looks great from what I've seen. However, I was just curious to get your opinion (and those of others), on how NSU compares to other medical schools. I was thinking of canceling some of my interviews if I get an acceptance from Nova to save money, but I feel a little bad about blowing off these other schools without even checking them out.

GaryPharm, I would say never blow off an interview, its always best to check out all of your options. You have to make sure its the right place for you and the right decision, because it is a very important one. If NSU is the best place for you even after those interviews you'll still know its what you want. The deposits are pretty expensive, so if you are 100% sure go with it, if not I am pretty sure you get 30 days from your acceptance to sign the letter.

Good luck.

i stil dont think its a big deal cancelling interviews at places you dont really see yourself, i got an acceptanec to KCUMB and im really hopin for Nova, if nova comes through im probably cancelling my interview at western

Well, the 2 main schools that I'm thinking I might want to cancel are LECOM-PA and KCOM. It's not the curriculum or anything, and I've never even seen either campus so I'm not too sure what the living environment there is like. The only thing I'm going by is that I'm afraid the locations might be a little too rural for me (I grew up in the suburban southern california area). Nova was a little different from what I'm use to, but gave me a pretty good impression minus the extremely humid weather. I would like to check out every school that I received interviews for, but unfortunately the costs of traveling is a little more than I can afford.

I was just hoping maybe someone here has interviewed at either of these 2 schools (LECOM-PA and KCOM), as well as Nova, and can give me a fair non-biased assessment on their impressions and how these schools compare.

I have LECOM-PA on Friday and I had NOVA on tuesday so I'll report back to you after Friday. I was also interviewing with you at LECOM-B

Hey Jim,

As someone who's also interviewed at both Bradenton and Nova, which would you prefer if accepted to both?

The point of my post is that while you may love the first thing you see, even if you think the next is something you may not, it might be the perfect fit for you. That was all, the same reason you do rotations for all major specialties, because you need to find which field is the best for you, you need to find the school that is best for you.

There are so many factors in picking a school only you can know what is best for you, and one of them is experiencing each school you thought you wanted to attend, that is why I would attend all the interviews I could afford to both in terms of time and money.

With that being said if you get the green light from NSU I think its a great place to be.

Anyone who has any direct questions about NSU feel free to PM me, I only know a little, but I am willing to give you my honest opinion and answers.
