NSU-COM Interview Discussion thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I thought it was either that or scrubs. LECOM-E and B both have a similar dress code.

Hmm. On the first page, there's two columns and it says:

for male: slacks or pants, dress shirt, necktie, shoes and socks

for female: slacks, pants or skirt with blouse, shoes, scrubs

Then, on the second page, there's only one column and it continues with scrubs and necktie, but I can't tell if this is for females or males (it already listed scrubs for females on the first page and necktie for male on the first page).

Then it lists things that students can't wear including shorts, jeans, etc.

OK, alright, I just did a search on their website and I think this is clearer than what they sent me. I guess scrubs are ok. phew, that was a close one. I was just about to put nova the bottom of my list. 🙂

The following constitute acceptable attire:

1. Students must wear their white consultation jackets with their names
and appropriate college designation embroidered over or on the left
breast pocket. A white jacket is to be worn daily over the prescribed attire.

2. Shirt, tie, slacks, socks, and regular shoes for men, and for women it
should be professional business dress, which includes slacks, pants,
or skirt with blouse, or dress and appropriate shoes.

3. Matching scrub sets, socks, and shoes.

4. In addition to the above attire, students must wear their white clinical jackets.

5. Identification badges will be issued at the Division Badge Room and must be
worn at all times when the student is on campus or clinical rotation. Please note that on campus, ID badges are necessary for proper use of auditoriums, library and recreational facilities, offices, laboratories, and certain restricted parking areas.

Students may not wear the following:
• shorts
• cut-offs
• mini-skirts (higher than mid-thigh)
• jeans
• see-through clothing or halter-tops
• beach/ flip-flop sandals or thong footwear
• T-shirts (as the outer shirt)
• jogging or exercise clothing
• hats or caps, unless of a religious nature

These guidelines apply on campus from 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and while on duty on rotations.

90% of guys and girls were wearing scrubs on Friday when I interviewed!

oh man, dressing up and wearing the white coat all in 80 degree weather...thats gotta burn...im a scrubs kinda guy i guess 🙂

But, i think im cool with dressing up, i mean after all, we're gonna be doctors!!!!! and they're real professional 🙂 im excited but...

im really nervous, i know i said it before on this thread, but everyone is saying its really chill...but what does this mean...i mean..no emotion or something for the interviewees responses...? And, if you guys who interviewed at NSU just recently, please can you say what kinda questions you came across?....or post in the interview feedback forum?

thank you...

Hey thanks for looking that up! I would definitely lean towards wearing scrubs.

At the university co-op here at UT, they have burnt orange scrubs with the UT logo on them. I'm going to get some before I go to med school.

woah, woah, woah. lol. Let me clear this up. The "official" dress code is either scrubs or a shirt with a collar(like a polo) for guys. BUT a lot of us just wear scrub pants with t-shirts. When I posted above about the every 2 weeks is because every two weeks you go to a doctors office or hospital to work with a doc. Obviously you have to dress professionally. Some allow you to wear scrubs, some don't. It depends on your doctor. Technically, you have to wear blue scrubs. but thats a little flexible too. The only kind of stupid thing about Nova is that we are all color coded. Med is blue, PT is maroon. first year dentals are green, optometry is light green, etc.

80 degrees? Is it winter already? lol. Don't worry too much about the interview, BUT be prepared. Have an answer for blemishes on the transcript, read about the school (the SDN interview questions thingy is exactly the questions you will get asked,) learn about osteopathy, and remember this for all schools you interview at:
You love OMM and are super excited to learn it.
You want to practice primary care in the middle of nowhere.

burnt orange scrubs to go with your "burnt orange balls"?:laugh::laugh:

I thought it was cool everybody was color coded!

im a UT longhorn alum..thought about the burnt orange scrubs at the coop..but they are too expensive for me 🙁 compared to my 10 dollar set of scrubs (includes pants and top) ...btw..how much are the burnt orange scrub pants only?

edit: i just checked the coops website...24 bux for scrub pants only !! quite pricy indeed

haha, i kinda wish it were today tho so we coudl find out sooner if we get in or not and relieve a lot of stress from my shoudlers....but yea, so has anyone gotten their packet yet for the october 25th interviews, itd be cool to get it soon

Don't say "sooner" this close to ou weekend. Its bad luck.

I have a quick NSU question. I submitted the secondary on 9/9 and sent the signature page on 9/10. On my account page it is listed under requirements but with no date. Is it possible they just have so many to go through they haven't put it in the system or should I call or e-mail and find out if I should send it again?

I received an interview even before my signature page got there. And they still havent updated my status page acknowledging receipt of my signature page...so no worries 👍

Thanks! I think I'll give it a while. I had one LOR sent to them that should get there this week along with my MCAT score. I still have to send three more LORs, one of which I don't have yet so I won't worry about it yet.

sure, no problem. when i sent in my lors it took like 1.5 weeks to reflect on the website, cuz snail mail takes forever...but i think NSU is pretty good about being on top of processing apps, IMO

I hope so because I'm already getting kind of antsy about being not really but semi-late. I'm also nervous about NSU because in the new AACOMAS book it says that to get a secondary you have to have at least a 24 MCAT but I'm thinking that has to be wrong.

Do you check your status by just logging into the secondary application page and clicking on your application link? I just checked that and according to them they have not received my signature page yet either, I sent it on ~9/10 also. I got my interview invitation before I sent it out also. My LOR package got sent out yesterday....looking forward to this day next month 🙂

Wow, so you guys got interviews before they even received your LORs? I'm nervous that as soon as they receive my 22 MCAT I'll be sent to the reject pile.

its actually not too late...i mean ppl have just begun receiving interviews, and its kinda in the middle of the cycle right now, so i think if you have decent stats, ur not really late.

im not sure about the 24 mcat...i dont think i read abotu that anywhere...

no no, they got my LORs, and then only i got invited. But, the Signature Page, on the other hand, was not posted on the status page, but they still dished out interviews, looks like.

if you have other ec's and gpa that offsets the 22, im sure they will give you consideration

Although my GPAs are not spectacular, especially cumulative, I think I have some good ec's and life experiences since I first went to college in '96. I'm the meantime I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

have you considered retaking the mcat? Even a few points on each section could help...and im sure adcoms will factor your improvement into their consideration.

yeah those life experiences count...and im glad DO schools understand that more than MD schools.. but im not gonna get into that topic here lol

👍 heres to your NSU interview! 🙂

Yeah, it's early still, I think they just started interviewing a week or two ago...The 22 MCAT is below their average acceptance of 24, but not too far below. If your GPA is decent you should be alright...here is there statistics from last year (if you havn't already found them) http://medicine.nova.edu/admiss/forms/profilestats.pdf

Tensyle, I will be the white guy from california in a navy suit....I wonder how many will be there the same day as us?

My GPA is spectacular. At least in terms of how low it is.

At least you will stand out

Cool..you should include "Enginerds" on your name badge 😀. i'll be the short guy in a black suit (if i can fit into it). I think there'll proally be like 8 or 9 people, cuz i remember reading somewhere that the group splits into two, and each group had just a handful of ppl

Thanks! I didn't even think to look at that page. The MCAT is definitely my worst selling point. I have a higher average science GPA but a lower overall GPA. I think my graduate GPA is around a 3.5. Someone last night thought it would be better if I told the schools I'm planning on retaking in January so I won't get rejected right way. But not too long ago I actually made a post about the dilemma to tell or not to and it seemed the consensus was not to say anything yet. Now I'm torn because I really don't want to end up rejected everywhere right away. Someone's got to give me a chance! Please!!

Ehh..the average MCAT for ALL APPLICANTS is a 24....the average MCAT for those accepted and matriculated is closer to a 26 (25.65) ..just settin u straight..gluck

I will be there Oct. 25th as well. Good luck everyone!! :luck:

I'm going for an interview on the 23rd... arriving at Ft. Lauderdale sunday morning of that week.. anyone else for the 23rd? who wants to explore ft. lauderdale?

-=P

For anyone who interviewed at NOVA on the 18th of this month...
I can't remember what Rachel had said about notifying accepted applicants. When did she say she would call?

Thanks!

i interviewed on the 21st and am waiting as well

Nope. Rachel Weiner said she might not have time to call and just to wait for letters... She said something about going out of town. Can anyone confirm this or did I not hear her correctly?

I got a call from Rachel Weiner (at 3:06 PM CST) saying that I was accepted to NOVA and that I would have to pay a $750 deposit fee by Dec. 14th. She also said that an official acceptance letter will be sent via mail. I am kinda excited. Good Luck to everyone. Hope you guys get accepted.

So....yea I didn't get any call...I'm doing my best to NOT freak out...telling myself that I may still get a call on Monday...maybe I'm waitlisted...
It doesn't help that I'm REALLY freaking sick...and having girl problems....trying to not be completely misserable here...

Who's with me?

Nate.

yea i'm a bit worried, too.. i thought it was in the bag after my interview ended with "you're going to make a great doctor" but now i'm not so sure! let's cross our fingers and hope for a call on monday!

Aw that sucks. Feel better! I was sick for most of the past week but I'm finally getting over it. Boo. And hopefully you hear from Nova Monday with good news! 🙂

Do they call if your waitlisted?

Yes she is on vacation next week, but she has 2 assistants so maybe you will hear from one of them
