NSU-COM Interview Discussion thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I declined a few interviews after my Nova acceptance, and I don't regret it. I didnt see myself at those schools. The other school I was seriously considering was UMDNJ but I decided NSU was a better fit AND I was accepted at UMDNJ during the summer, so a little late. As for the stats, there is an mdapps in my profile, but long story short - 3.2/32M

Who doesn't care if they get in or not? I just want to know! I'm tired of waiting.

im still waiting to hear from them, i interviewed on the 14th. I contacted Rachel on some missing things she had from me and got that all straighten out, it was their mistake. Anyways, she told me they would make a decision on the 27th and i would be contacted shortly after. So far nothing, my interview didnt go as well as i planned. The interviewers were really getting me on a C i received since all my other grades were A's and A-'s. They were also confused why i only got a 24 on my mcat with a gpa of 3.7, they kinda seemed as if they were set on rejecting me. The one interviewer, the old doctor, look down on me for opening up an italian cafe. I told him it builds character, leadership skills, and capital to finance my education 😉. Anyways, at the end of the interview the guy shook my hand and reassured me that i would be accepted to NOVA. WTF? lol.

Are you guys(sept 14th-21st) still waiting for a confirmation?

BTW, i have already been asked by 4 schools for interviews (including NOVA) but i really wanna go to nova or ccom.

dang, hearing about everyone else's interviews is starting to make me feel really nervous. I felt that my interview at Nova went alright, I didn't feel at any point that I was being grilled or that they were dissatisfied with my application or any of my answers. However, at the end they just shook my hand and said "we wish you good luck", which doesn't sound as comforting or assuring as what some of you got. 🙁

On a side note, is it just me or does it seem that Nova is interviewing more people than normal this year? I looked at the statistics and in 2005 they only interviewed 161 out of state applicants and accepted 131. At my interview there must've been at least 14-16 applicants (mostly out of state) and it seems that they're interviewing more than one group per week.

I interviewed on Sept 18th, and still have not heard anything. I did talk to them today and they mentioned that Rachel is out of town and that they have already sent out the acceptance letters and should be arriving soon. They also said that Rachel would be making the calls even after the letters have been received.

Just to add some wierdness to the whole situation, I received a confidential letter from Nova yesterday regarding setting up my Nova student email and Webstar account. Strange to have that sent out since I have no idea if I am even a student as of yet.😕 ANYONE ELSE have this strange letter show up????? Just curious.

Good luck everyone and try not to worry about it, no one is getting calls back right now from Nova. If you have interviewed already, good chances you are at the top of their list. 😀

Yep I received that letter for setting up my WEBSTAR account today and I got a call from Rachel last Friday that I was accepted (I interviewed on Sept. 18th). I think everyone who interviewed at NOVA gets those because it said on the bottom of the letter that it doesn't indicate acceptance to NOVA. Thats what I think.

hey whats up, i remember you too thats why i wrote on here, i knew you were interviewed same day as me. I am going to get in contact with a few of the peeps now to see if they got any news or not. ill keep you posted.

Everyone invited for an interview gets the webstar letter, because its how you can check our app status and documents status. At least as far as I remember.

The phone call thing is something I wish they would just not tell people about and just suprise them. For me it took about 3 weeks to get the call and I was nuts the whole time as they said Rachel would call a week after. But be nice to Rachel she is a great person and can be a great asset in getting things done as a new acceptee.

Good Luck All!

You will all be fine. I know of some applicants last year that never got their phone call but got their acceptance letter. A phone call would be the quick solution to your anxiety, but if you're accepted ultimately, does it matter in the longrun? Perhaps, I forgot what it was like applying last year... 😛

Best of luck everyone!

Is this guy an NSUCOM OMSI?

I'll assume you were being serious. There are not only OMSI's on the Facebook group. I do not recongize the individual as being part of the OMSI class.

Im almost sure that person in the picture is NOT in our class.

Hi,

<-- long time SDN reader, first time poster. I'm also interviewing on 11/9 at NSU. Super excited!

Has anyone received their acceptance packets yet? I thought that they were to be going out sometime this past week.

Hey guys, I just got my packet a few days ago. If anyone has any specific questions as to what's in it I will let you know. You can find prefered hotels at www.nova.com and click on the "visit Nova" link. Schedule says to arrive at 8:45 and lasts until ~2:30pm. Talks about student conduct and attendance requirments etc. ummmm also says to read through the student handbook found at http://medicine.nova.edu. There are abut of copies of newpaper articles about the school etc. etc. I will be there on the 25th but if anyone is in dire need of the info I can probably scan and send it to you, but it would have to be on Monday.

Anybody who has interviewed (or Kuba) have any suggestions on hotels in the area? I looked at the list of NSU suggested hotels, some of them have some pretty shady reviews on tripadvisor though. i.e. hookers hanging out in the lobby and roaches climbing the walls.

I'm staying at a family member's house in Sunny Isles Beach. Mapquest says it's about 18 miles from there to NOVA (24 min) and I have do have access to a free car. I could drive, but since I'm not familiar with the area in any way, I don't want to risk getting lost and being late. Does anyone know how much a cab would cost from Sunny Isles to Nova?

if you wanna save some cash, i'd recommend you look into staying with a student host. the list of student ambassadors online is outdated, but i just emailed dr. whitehead (head of student services), and he forwarded my request on to students. it was a great experience and really calmed a lot of my worries, plus i got a really in-depth look at the school, which is so valuable.

have you heard from the school yet?

I'm giving it until the end of the week...and then I'm shooting myself! 😛

I stayed at the Comfort Suites Ft. Lauderdale Airport. It was nice enough, fairly priced and they offered free shuttle service to/from the airport and campus! Plus free breakfast!

Nate.

hahaha. that was one of the few I missed. Waaaayyyyy too hungover.

Thats right you guys had the big anatomy test the day before!

i called the admissions office and left a message.. i got one of those mailings about my webstar ID and everything. why would they send this info out before a notification of acceptance? i know it says it doesn't mean you are admitted per se, but why else would you be given an ID? and there doesn't seem to be any option in their online portal about checking admissions status, so i'm not quite sure what i'm supposed to do with this login stuff. getting a little frustrated here...

I just got accepted via registered snail mail!

does everyone get the letter via certified mail? cuz that might be my problem.. i live in detroit in a second-floor apartment of a house, and usually mail carriers don't come around back to ring my doorbell. this never ends!

But.... I didn't get a phone call so people should not worry about that!

breathe. go out and enjoy life. the news will get to you eventually and you won't start class for another 9 months or so.

LaQuinta inn was nice, had no shuttle, but I had a car. They have a NOVA rate as well.

I stayed at the Hampton Inn for my interview and loved it. Free shuttle from the airport and to the school and back.

Thanks, I ended up going with Hampton. Nice discount, listed price was $179 and the NSU rate was $89. I think I will have a car, but it's nice that they have the free shuttle. Kuba, I have all day Wednesday to explore. Any suggestions on what to check out besides the beaches? Do you live around school? I was maybe going to check out areas for buying/renting a house, but don't know what areas to stay away from or those that are ok.

I also just received my acceptance today through the mail. WOOHOO!!! 😀

i'm an alternate candidate apparently. they are going to put my application back in for the next meeting again, till i get accepted or rejected... i think. does that mean im on a waitlist?

i guess the committee had a problem with my 24Q, i guess my 3.5/3.7 gpa wasnt good enough so far.

btw, i just got my 5th interview invite today... TOURO NY... which im excited about, even more than nova's because its in nyc.

i still don't get why i haven't gotten a letter yet.. and that's frustrating that you're on a waitlist now but at least you can stop worrying about expecting something in the mail from them, at least for awhile. and yay for touro-ny! i'm interviewing there on oct. 30.. when are you interviewing?

Its a little pricey and I know its on the website, but the Holiday Inn Express in Plantation is nice. I stayed there last year during my interview and it was nice. Clean sheets, clean room, and decent service. I also live next door to it and it hosts alot of business meetings here so I think its okay overall. And even on a terrible traffic day its only takes me 15-20 min to get to school.

And as was stated earlier the student hosts are a decent route, if you are interested in that just email Dr. Whitehead.

Good Luck!

when are you interviewing at TOURO? They have received my secondary application and I believe now they are waiting for my LOR's before scheduling an interview. I think that's how it works at TOURO, right?

I must second that. I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express, Plantation as well during my interview. Decent breakfast in the morning, clean hotel. Rooms are appointed well and comfortable (use the wake up service), and NSU interviewees get discount rates.

Good luck and if anybody has any questions on NSU please feel free to email or PM me.

🙂👍
