These numbers are in line with what you will find at the ACGME's website regarding allopathic graduate medical education. These numbers however do not take into consideration the affect that increased admissions rates for classes beyond 2012 will experience on the total number of positions available for MD grads...It looks like there will be a shortage of ~2200 residency positions for the MD class of 2012. I guess there's a residency snafu everywhere. It sucks for those of us involved in it.

In arizona, I have been hearing about the possibility about graduate medical education cuts, not sure if it is specific to podiatry (is podiatry paid for by the same funds?). I think the only reason why the programs have not been hit yet is because of the federal stimulus money to patch the holes in the budget. A year or two ago residencies were talking about adding spaces for residents, I wonder if that is still on the table. Maybe some of the residents on the forum can speak out as to whether they are adding spots, or if some of these spots are going to be cut. Seems like with the budgets the way they are it will be difficult to add spots.
