I'm currently 28 and in nursing school. I have a little over a year left. The thing is that I keep having this itching feeling that I want to pursue medicine. Do I finish my BSN and then go to medical school? If I do that, what steps will I need to take to have a good shot of getting in. Anyone out there that was a nurse first and then went to medical school? Any advice would be very appreciated.

If you search around in the upper right, Nursing to MD has been discussed many times before!

Your steps to take would be about the same as everyone else - hit the required science classes, take the MCAT, and have some other valuable things rounding out your application (e.g. volunteerism, leadership, clinical exposure which should obviously not be an issue for you!).

I think all else equal you'd be a far more competitive applicant if you finished your BSN and worked as an RN for a few years. In that case, your nursing background would be an asset on your app. If you drop out now, your failure to complete nursing school will be a liability. Nursing is also an excellent profession that affords you geographic and scheduling flexibility as well as good compensation. Medical school is by no means a sure thing for anyone and having the RN as a fall back, either permanently or just until you figure out what to do next, is a very good thing.
