Hi,

I have a quick question. I've read that Biochemistry is very good to take as many DO schools are started to require it. At my college they have a Nutritional Biochemistry course for Nutrition majors. Would this be accepted?

Is there a biochem you could take that was in the biology department? If so I'd take that that way you don't have to deal with the hassle of whether or not something is eligible.

That is really odd, "nutritional biochemistry." Sorry, haha, when I think of biochemistry I affiliate it with metabolism, enzymes, TCA cycle, etc. all of which require nutritional resources. Anyway, back on track, I would take regular biochemistry if you can do so without any trouble with your credits towards your major. It's always best to take the class that most closely resembles the area you are trying to prepare for. Like AlteredScale mentioned, it is better to take the exact class specified in order to dodge any obstacles that may arise in your application process. Better safe than sorry, plus, biochemistry is amazing and VERY useful.

I think the necessity of biochem is overstated.... I had zero biochem going in and managed just fine. Everyone else without a biochem background seemed to be doing fine too. I don't think you should definitely take it UNLESS a lot of schools you may want to apply require it.
