NYCOM and UNECOM

Hi everyone!! Hope your all enjoying getting acceptances and interview invites

As for me, I have just gotten back from my interview at UNECOM and I have to say.. WHOA.

I have an acceptance to NYCOM and I am very very very thankful and happy about it. However, I have kinda fallen in love with as RenneWB has said previously.. the COMMRADERIE at UNECOM which was unsurpassed by ANY school I've interviewed at. I mean, these students came up to us, showed concern, encouragement, reinforcement of the strong curriculum, and KINDNESS. And unfortunately, I happen to be one of those people you can kill with kindness haha

I loved 'THE state of the ART facilities' and how BEAUTIFUL the area is, especially since I'm an old New Englander

Now, I'm having a problem because I loved BOTH schools. (THIS IS NOT TO SAY UNECOM is even going to accept me.. but I hope they do!!)

Anyway, I need some advice from all of you weighing the pros and cons of each school. If you could post here or email me that would be great

UNECOM is heavily primary care, more so than most other osteopathic schools, I believe. That may not be a bad thing if you're sure you're headed that way, but it might be if you change your mind later on. You should also consider where you ultimately want to practice. If it's in New Englad/MA, perhaps UNECOM is the place for you then. If it's in the NY area, then NYCOM would be better suited.

It looks like I'm following you. I've just got accepted to NYCOM and also have an interview at UNE on March 9th. That seems so late especially since my application was complete in early Dec. From what I've heard I know that I would fall in love with the school as well. When you were there did you get a sense of when they were in the admission process or how full the class is so far? I am interested in hearing a more in depth explaination of "[UNECOM] is more heavily into primary care, than other osteopathic schools" and the statement that if one decides to head down a road that does not lead to primary care it might be a "bad thing" to have attended UNECOM.

just plain bad advice in my opinion!

The reality of the situation is that ones education at UNECOM is geared so that a graduate will be a competent osteopathic physician....primary care physician or not.

Osteopathy sort of lends itself naturally to primary care docs. I would definitely say that UNECOM puts great emphasis on OMT, however many of my classmates as well as myself do not intend to pursue primary care. There certainly isn't anyone putting pressure on us to do otherwise!
