hmm. i called them on Wed and the lady told me no decision has been made since they just got back to work. if what you said is true, then i assume they just had a committee meeting?
 
my boyfriend applied two years ago, his interview was about 15 min, seemed laid back, he then recived a rej letter in the mail, when he called the adm office to find out why, an adm coun told him his mcat was to low, a 28. He started to disagree with her bc we new individuals who were excepted to that school with a much lower mcat. He tried to get in touch with the director rodika, with no luck, he then wrote a letter of protest to the university president office and the president agreed and forced rodika to have a conversation with him. SHe was very nice and informed him his interview score was to low, my boyfriend was right as far as his mcat not being to low for nycom, if it was the college of phys and serg(columbia) then he could understand, it should not have taken him so much to get an honest explanation out of them

For those who received interviews, did you handwrite or type up the supplemental? I have really bad handwriting and the spaces are really small to write in, but i thought it might be bad to retype the whole form. Thanks!
 
i handwrote it. it felt like a mere formality. my interviewer glanced at it briefly, asked one question on something on there and the rest had nothing to do with it.

can someone please tell me what are the core rotation sites for NYCOM? I am torn between NYCOM and NOVA. hoping someone would chime in and help me out. thanks SDN! woo hoo

I made this same decision last year, s2kray. PM me if you want details of what it came down to for me (though the decision is entirely yours, don't forget that when soliciting advice!)

i did! i still hadn't received a letter when the mail came today and i couldn't take waiting anymore, so i called to find out. and i'm in!

got my letter yesterday as well....Im in!

Wish they gave more time before we had to send in the absurd amount of NON refundable money for a deposit.

has anyone had any success asking for a extension on the deadline for the deposit? I doubt it but thought it would be worth a shot asking.

Yeah during the Q&A presentation with the assistant dean of admissions, she stated that there will be no extensions for the deadline of the deposit. Hope this helps!
 
I have a problem. I'm currently in New Zealand on a vacation, and my friend who's house sitting for me told me that I got my acceptance letter to NYCOM on January 9th after my interview on December 13th.

I'm going to be going back to New York on January 18th, so till then I won't be able to send in my deposit and whatever forms they want me to send with it.

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions about what to do? I'm nervous that the deposit won't get there on time, and I'll lose my seat or something like that. Can I drive it in to the school? I live on Long Island, so it's only about 30 mins away from me.

People have driven it to school. I think even in this thread a couple of people have said that they plan to drive their deposits to NYCOM.

I've got an interview this thursday. Anyone have any advice? 🙂
 
Don't worry about it too much, it's a pretty relaxed day =). Just know your secondary app, and why you want to be a DO/Doctor.
 
hey guys I got a letter in the mail saying that they don't send out secondaries unless invited for an interview etc, etc. Does this mean I'll be hearing about whether or not I'm getting an interview soon or ? any ideas on about how long itll be before hearing about an interview, based on your experiences?

Yes, if you get a secondary, it means you've been invited to an interview. It all comes together in one package and they want you to bring the secondary with you on your interview day (it's just a few questions to describe yourself etc). Good luck! 🙂

I know they said on interview day that once you're accepted you can call and set up a personal session with the financial planners. Thats what i'm planning on doing once i file the FAFSA and all that jazz
 
hey guys, does anyone know the number to call to find out a status update? Just the generic 'admissions' number? I interviewed 11/6 and still haven't heard... probably not a good sign but I'd like to know one way or the other.... thanks
 
I used the generic admissions number on the website. I hope that helps. Have your social security number ready.
 
Does anybody know how the curriculum is structured? Is it based on blocks of systems or is it something else?

We have 2 tracks:
1) A systems based curriculum (LDB - Lecture Discussion Based)
2) PBL (DPC - Doctor Patient Continuum)

You choose to apply to PBL when you are accepted and get something like 2 weeks-month to test it out. PBL students and LDB students are together during the Fundamentals of Osteoapthic Medicine system

In the LDB curriculum you'll have 7 systems in your OMS-1 year. Fundamentals of Osteopathic Medicine, Musculoskeletal, Neuro I, Neuro II, Neuro III, Immunology, Dermatology. Tests are roughly every 2-3 weeks.

Also, PBL students do have to come to the anatomy and OMM lectures as well.

Tanner, I'm surprised to hear that...your stats look really good. Maybe your acceptance was lost in the mail?

I got the whole "letters were mailed out this morning" bit... lol who knows!

Did anyone get their financial aid/info packet yet? They said they will send more information, it has been almost a month since I deposited the money, but they haven't sent in anything.

They won't send it for a while, because they pretty much send them all at once. I was the first batch of acceptances and i didn't get that stuff until late march. Fill out your fafsa as soon as you have your taxes done, then just relax, the other stuff is pretty easy.

As for classes, they'll start on a monday, around the 20th of august. The last 2 years it's been 1 day of orientation, then classes start tues.
