You can absolutely call. I did and moved my interview up a month +. The lady on the phone said people call to do that throughout the day. Good luck!

o wow...thanks pinktoes! really appreciate it! i felt i would be annoying them if i keep calling, but i did call, and looks like they are all booked! =(

i guess i will keep calling, and hopefully i can get something this week, otherwise its next tuesday...i am getting quite restless...

thx again!

to pinktoes:

ahh no I haven't decided yet. umdnj has their accepted students day at the end of this week so hopefully i'll make my decision shortly after! Good luck at your interview. The day was very relaxed and conversational so don't worry!

I have similar stats and I haven't heard anything either. I did receive an informative email about the MedPrep program and they asked me to mail them my tax returns, which I did. I called them this morning to see whats going on and they said they are only interviewing until next week. So basically if we haven't heard anything yet it doesn't look good for us this year. 🙁

i have an afternoon interview, but have to be there at 11am- normally acc to google maps it takes 45 min- do you think leaving around 9 should be ok (sorry for stupid q., i just have never driven there before...)

hmmm doesnt look too good for us at this time.... :scared:... i faxed them my tax returns as well over 2 months ago... and when I called about a month ago, the lady rudely told me that they interview into may...so you never know we might have a chance....

Unless you drive like an old lady, if you leave anywhere from 930-10 you should get there before 11. Rush hour commuter traffic should be gone by 930 and it's pretty easy to get to from the highway if you follow google maps so I wouldn't be too worried about it.

Hey guys, I interviewed on 3/4/2010

I was wondering if anyone around that time have heard back yet?

The lady was pretty rude to me too this morning. I guess they are tired of us all nagging them. I faxed my tax returns to them on December 16th. It would be nice if they can tell us something by now. This stress of not knowing anything is killing me! I really hope they interview into May! Please keep me updated if you receive anything and I will do the same. Good luck.

oh n i suppose the parkin areas on campus are accesible for interviewees?

When did you apply? My GF has higher stats than what you reported and never heard anything. Nothing for Med-prep or an interview. Just silence.

So I'm from jersey and have a 3.4 and a 30 MCAT and have not heard back either. My secondary was completed second week in January.

I applied in October, but I think the MEDPREP is just for NYers that are economically disadvantaged, so maybe that's why she didn't receive anything from MEDPREP. I'm not positive though. They have such a large matriculating class I thought for sure some of us on this forum would hear something back. I even had a LOR from a well known graduate of NYCOM. I guess there were a lot of applicants this year.

I interviewed on 3/3 and haven't heard yet. I would give it another week or so, because the day of my interview they told us it'd be 3-4 weeks, and that they were backed up with apps, a little bit. So I'd give it another week or so.

That's really late to have applied, so your stats probably aren't the issue at this point.

I really hope I hear something soon... I think my hair is turning gray from all the anxiety...will def update if I hear anything... Good luck to u too!!!:scared:

Yes, parking isn't a problem. Leaving at 9 from Brooklyn should give you plenty of time. I drove up from Jersey, and once I passed through Brooklyn it took maybe 45 min to get to NYCOM. Best of luck!

Ah the wait is the worst part!!

I don't think MEDPREP has anything to do with your economic status. I do know it's a one month program, where they teach you some of the material you will learn in medical school. If you pass the exams, you are guaranteed a spot in the fall class.

I think it's just a way for admissions to give people a chance who they are on the fence about.... and to see if they can handle the material before they guarantee them a spot in the class.

NYCOM releases decisions in batches, correct me if I am wrong anyone. So I am guessing those who interviewed in march will find out hopefully early April.

Only been a wk since I interviewed and its so tough to wait, but I can hold on if the result is positive only thing that helps the wait for now.

That was to old way... now they got some sort of grant that they are using for the MEDPREP/HCOP program from my understanding. It's a new grant they just got this year. They told me its only for those that are economically disadvantaged or educationally disadvantaged.. whatever that means.

That would explain why people here who got the MedPrep application also had to fill out a FAFSA.

i got in!!!!!!!!!!!

Interviewed: 3/3
Accepted: 3/26 😀😀

I withdrew my acceptance to NYCOM today. I hope one of you guys gets it! Good luck to everybody who is still waiting on an acceptance.

Thanks for the clarification! Oh so I guess this year it's for people who they're on the fence about grade wise (educationally disadvantaged, if that's what it means) as they did in the past, but now the program can also accommodate applicants that are from lower household income brackets.

I feel as though that would involve most people because on the FAFSA, enrolling in med school categorizes you as independent. By the looks of it most people going into med school aren't making much money at all (aside from those non-trads that have had careers. I know I made $250 in the 09-10 year haha

All in all, it's good though they got a grant to add funding for the program!

The lady explained educationally disadvantaged as being that you went to a high school or college that is located in a disadvantaged area. 😕 They make it seem that they don't even know what they are talking about. I told her I went to high school and college in the Bronx. I thought for sure I would qualify, but she wasn't sure. I think they will have this program planned out better next year.

hey, called the school again today and they said that they are no longer sending interview invitations. I guess its the caribbean for me!!! i was hoping i dint have to make that journey... 🙁

Just withdrew my acceptance. Good luck to everyone still waiting!!!

If you really don't want to go to the Caribbean, then don't, because I know I wouldn't. Just re-apply in May, and make sure you get all your materials in EARLY in order to get an interview. Applying early will also increase your chances of getting accepted.

I fail to see the problem with waiting a year.

Anyone that got interviewed the week of 3/16-3/18 hear back yet? Please post when you do..

That sux!! Well I'm working on a masters in health administration in the meantime. I'm going to wait and apply again next year really early! I already tried to foreign medical schools and I wasn't a fan. I suggest you wait unless you have a reason why you really need to start this year. I know some people really like the foreign and offshore medical schools, but I feel like it should only be used as a last resort. Good luck, keep us posted about what you decide.

Does anyone know how the waitlist process works

What the NYCOM stats are for waitlist students.

I am not too optimistic....

i just got waitlisted as well. seems like from the previous years it hasn't moved much.

I am kind of running out of time, this was my last effort to get into med school, i finished my masters a year ago. But i interviewed at Ross 3 weeks ago and it is one of the better schools from caribbean. Lets see if they accept me, i can always work really hard (which i was def planning on) and transfer to a US school during the second year. Thank you and i wish you good luck...👍

So I am going to assume that being on the wait list is pretty much a rejection?

Has anyone heard otherwise?

Does anyone know how to increase chances of receiving admission?

Thanks
