I agree with Christina30, Dr. Torres was giving you his game face I believe... Im pretty sure he really isnt too harsh on his written notes of the interview, he was probably/ honestly checking how you perform under pressure (haha by giving you pressure)

soooo with my free time, i went through last yrs thread for nycom. last yr, most of the people who interviewed in march got waitlisted. do you think its gonna be the same this yr?

haha very true!just saying - i can't have been the only one, and not everyone who interviews posts on SDN. don't always go by what you read on here, you'll give yourself a stroke.

I got an email earlier today from Nycom about the HCOP med prep program. They are asking me to send my parents tax forms and then they will sees if I qualify. I think I will probably get in. Does anyone have insight on this.
Thanks a bunch.

I got an email yesterday, too! 🙂 But did you get one email for an invite, and another for HCOP? Or did you get an invite early on and then just got the HCOP email?
Thanks and good luck to all! 👍
Anyone here from today's interview group? My interview was relaxed, much like everyone else's experience. Campus, students and faculty all seem amazing.
When is a typical amount of time for the adcom to give us a decision?
I interviewed Feb. 3 and also have not heard back... guess they forgot about us.
yeah, i interviewed yesterday and taryn was saying how a lot of the feb people were calling the office because they didnt hear anything. she said feb was a short month and it takes them about 3-4 weeks to get back to you.Maybe you should just sit tight and wait. You seem to antsy, they'll get back to you when they get back to you.

its funny cause i thought nycom interviews most of the instate students first and then the others but the majority of the people there were from NY and the rest of them were from NJ and Connecticut.
thanks for that info NYEMMED.NYCOM usually interviews NY residents before OOS applicants, but:
A) it is now late in the process, so it would be more open to OOS interviews now
B) Its not exclusionary, a good applicant is hard to pass up regardless of where they live. I know NYCOM interviewed people from Cali, FL, CT, etc during the first month of interviews (but they were very good applicants)
In all NYCOM will accept a 60/40 % ratio or 70/30% ratio depending on the year

did anyone else notice that the anatomy lab smelled pretty good? i found it hilarious how a note was attached to one of the cadavers saying "dont forget to spray me or ill get you" LOL
lol i thought it smelled pretty good in there... ive been at other schools and it was terrible.Good? You're crazy! I'm so glad anatomy's over - I was tired of that stink permeating my scrubs & hair!
Those signs were pretty important! It must've been around the time we were taking practicals, because some people would open cadavers (that didn't even belong to them) and practice/study & leave them open/not moisten them after they were done. So they dried up someone else's cadaver! So rude! Haha. There's anatomy lab etiquette to follow!!
do you guys mind sharing ur stats, those of you who got accepted?
I really wanna go to NYCOM but I am not sure if my stats will cut it....
I have a 3.75 GPA, 3.71 Science, and a 24O mcat on a retake (10 PS, 8 BS, 6 VR) first time I got a 22Q (9 PS, 9 BS, 4 VR)
any input would b greatly appreciated!
Your GPA is great! NYCOMs average MCAT score is usually around a 28-29.5 (and this average includes those students who enter through the medprep program, BS/DO, program etc, so in reality the straight acceptance average is usually on the 29+ side) each year. Your MCAT can certainly get you accepted but being on the lower of the spectrum of that average, it may be harder. My advice would be to get a few points higher on the MCAT, and also have very good ECs, Research, publications, shadowing, volunteering, etc... They might also give you a shot through the medprep program, you would have to go through an intense 6 week summer course, and then if you pass you'll get accepted. They offer this program to a few people who have a good app, but too weak of a score to be outright accepted.

when did you interview?I know of people accepted with a 25 MCAT and lower GPA than yours so I wouldn't completely lose hope. At the time that I interviewed I had a 3.8 and only a 24R on the MCAT (I also have an extensive list of ECs), but have since gotten my Jan MCAT back and got a 27R. I am still waiting to hear back about acceptance.
All in all I would not count yourself out, but I don't know what your ECs are.
