In case you guys are wondering what the schedules are like, this was on the NYCOM website, its the 1st and 2nd years (c/o 2013,2014) calendars.

trying 2 create a group for nycom 2015 but i need people 2 start the group!

message me ur names!

Hey guys,
My packet says they can only reserve a seat for me until January 21. Does that mean I have to have the acceptance form, pre-enrollment confirmation, and transcript in by that date, or does that mean I have to send those things in earlier and they'll reserve my seat until January 21?

And is handing in the acceptance form giving them a commitment that you are attending NYCOM? Or is it just to reserve a seat and the final decision is made like April?

Sorry, it's my first acceptance and idk a lot...

You need to have in the acceptance form, pre-enrollment form, and your deposit. Don't worry about transcripts and all that until before orientation.

Hi all. I'm interested in NYCOM and wante to get feedback in regards to my situation.

I am currently a post-bacc premedical student at La Salle University in Philadelphia. I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology at the George Washington University with a GPA of 2.8. After deciding to pursue a career in medicine, I retook several of my lowest undergraduate grades. Having never taken any premedical Science courses as an undergraduate, my Science GPA should be approximately 3.8 after completion of the program. However, my cumulative GPA will be approximately 3.3 with repeated coursework. In terms of extracurricular activities, I have a good deal of shadowing experience and have gained a lot of direct patient contact through a previous job as an ER scribe. I also play sports and am a musician. I have not yet taken the MCAT. I am also a NY resident.

I'm interested in knowing where I stand as far as applicants go. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I think your new GPAs are ok, with a MCAT of 28+ you should be in the running for acceptance, Just beef up your extracurriculars which are already ok, Maybe some community service/ involvement. Your overall GPA is just slightly low, NYCOM usually likes 3.4/3.5 but they have accepted people under this also. Just explain how your brought up your GPA and you are trying to dedicate yourself to medicine/ you know you can make in in medical school with your new found study skills/ rhetoric on your personal statement and interview if you get one. Good Luck and study hard for that MCAT!

Yea I would say you are in the running for acceptance as long as you interview before the end / middle of February, Usually around that time they switch to interviews for wait-list only instead of acceptance. Good Luck!

Is the acceptance reply form a contract saying that I have to attend NYCOM in 2011?
I really like the school, but I want to hear back from every place before making a decision.

No, it is not. They need to receive it and the deposit by January 21st, which isn't too far away. If you're waiting on other interviews you had, and if you personally rank them higher for yourself, then wait until you get closer to the deadline, but be sure to submit everything on time so that you don't lose your spot.

So i'm a little freaked because i haven't got a letter stating if i am accepted or wait listed. I interviewed early in november but don't know if this is a bad sign or no big deal

I would call the admissions office and find out if anything went out in your name. That's what I did and she told me something was mailed out so I knew I was waiting for something to arrive. In case it got lost or something in transit, you will know for sure and not worry!

Thanks so much for the schedule info!!! So the class started on August 17th this year....anyone knows when the orientation would be for us class of 2015???

How does NYCOM go about requesting for interviews? I'd imagine it would be via email, but I'm not sure.

Orientation usually starts the 2nd thursday/friday of each August (the thursday/ friday right before classes start) and is for the weekend, then the first week of class also has orientation things built into it...

If looking for housing try to start your lease on Aug 1st, that should give you plenty of time to move in... When it gets a few months closer there will be 2nd and 3rd years advertising their rentals on facebook, NYCOM also will send you a web-board of rentals advertised by students needing roommates, landlords needing renters etc...Glen Cove is probably the cheapest area to rent in (where most of the students rent also), and is only 10 mins away from NYCOM

I called up the nycom admissions office today and was told that a decision has not been made on my application yet...looks like i'm dropping $1500 for the LECOM deposit...

Hah I think we were on the same day....Nov 16th morning session.... you'd think a month would be plenty of time for them to make a decision...lol

oh well...i'm sure everything will work out...even if it means i'm that much poorer at the end of the day..

yeah I took the advice given here and called today, i interviewed on the 9th of November in the pm and they said that they were still processing my application but would be sending a letter soon. I am just hoping that this isn't a bad sign. I am a little on edge here because after touring nycom i really want to go to school there.

Im in the same boat. I interviewed early November, and still no decision had been made. I loved NYCOM too, I keep praying everyday that I will hear from them soon with good news. I wonder what has kept them from making a decision??

Yeah, we were in the same group. Hopefully you hear soon. I'd bet you get in. :xf:

I was on the one who probably looked physically upset after my interview, since it really was my worst one during this process. lol

interview invite yesterday 12/14..
scheduled for 1/19..

is it true that once you get interview, chances are high you will get acceptance?? thanks!

Its still a good chance, but I think like with any other school its 50/50. You've obviously cleared the stats and LORs portion... now how much of a fit are you and a presentable person?

Remember, NYCOM is doing admissions differently this year, as in the past they had only extended secondary applications to those who were invited to interview, so an interview shouldn't be construed as easily turning into an acceptance. This messes up using past data, because if you look at past data, then yes, most interviewees are accepted, however their interview process is different this year so that may make the existing data around on the internet outdated or unreliable.

wow man wtf!!!! im starting to lose patience with this school. i already got 2 acceptances (CCOM and LECOM-Bradenton) and CCOM is definitely supposed to be better than NYCOM. congrats, im just hating on NYCOM cause they didn't invite me yet haha. I'm sure my hate will turn into love once I get an email from them 🙂

when did you send in your primary and secondary? i remember reading that some people didnt even submit their secondary when they were invited for an interview.

ok called again today, to update my address, and they told me decisions were mailed out this morning so good luck all hopefully i'll post here in three days that i'm in.

Yeah when i was there they told me that it wasn't even necessary that your secondary be done or your LORs in, just that if it wasn't completed than they would not give it to the committee until it was all finished.

People say CCOM is better because of its reputation and being one of the oldest osteopathic medical schools, and it has good rotation sites. However, IMHO (and this is just my personal opinion) NYCOM has a better curriculum by being systems based (and problem-based if that's your cup of tea), honors/pass/fail while CCOM has grades A-F, equally comparable rotation sites, and the most extensive osteopathic residency program through NYCOMEC (some of which are dually accredited). I want to ultimately practice in NYC or the greater area and so I felt NYCOM provides the better opportunity for that. Its all personal opinion though. I just passed up my CCOM acceptance for NYCOM last night. It was a very very tough decision, since I really enjoyed my interview experience at CCOM.

In terms of education and experience, I don't think you can go wrong with CCOM, NYCOM, or PCOM. The main difference between them are curriculum style, which for the most part is a personal preference. The latter two also have simulation experiences and technology.
(don't want to turn this into an e-peen contest between schools.. just wanted to express my opinion between the two and what shaped my decision)

praying for you! :xf: AND EVERYONE ELSE WAITING FOR THE NEXT ROUND OF DECISIONS TO BE MAILED! It will be okay guys! Once you all make it, we'll all celebrate!

really?? i didnt know that.. has there been any rejections thus far this year?? how different is it compared to past years?? i really want to get into NYCOM cuz i really want to be back in the nyc area.. raised in brooklyn all my life.. appreciate the help

when did you send in your primary and secondary? i remember reading that some people didnt even submit their secondary when they were invited for an interview.

primaries were completed late august..
secondaries were submitted october-ish..
i do think interviews are being sent out based on when primaries were complete. i remember reading last year's thread that secondaries were not necessary for interview invite

Well, I just mean in years past, they only gave secondaries to applicants at the time of invitation to interview. Half way through last year, they changed that which confused some applicants. So, by only allowing applicants who have been invited to interview to finish the application process, I'd imagine it was more likely those interviewers would be accepted.

This year, everyone has to submit a secondary but you may receive an interview invitation before the secondary is submitted (this happened with me).

I haven't read any rejections in the thread. Has anyone else? Though some people don't post when they receive rejections, which is perfectly understandable, so that may not be represented.

I don't think so. Look at the past posts on this thread and you'll see that someone submitted at the end of August got an invitation to an interview during the middle of October and they interviewed already in November. My primary was finished by the end of August too and I haven't heard anything from them. And I think I have a good shot at NYCOM. 28M, 3.87sGPA, 3.88cGPA, research, shadowing, volunteering... so I don't know whats up. Maybe they're saving the best for last 😛

hmm... well my stats are similar to yours.. except my gpa is lower and mcat is higher.. so i don't understand why you still didn't get any news yet.. well, are you a ny resident? i know they are very partial towards ny residents. and then start reviewing nj and ct residents and then oos residents that are farther away. i hope you hear good news soon!!
