I'd say go to Buffalo. I'm there for undergrad right now and will be going to their med school. Here are some random things:
1. I think you spend the least amount of time in lec than other schools (8-noon and then maybe small groups or review sessions in the afternoon, but still beats 9-5 lecs).
2. The only med school in western NY, other than Rochester but that's far away. The pt being is that you have access to over 10 hospitals in the area - ECMC (level 1 trauma center), Buff General, Children?s, St. Joe's, Millard Fillmore Suburban, VA, Sheehan Memorial Hospital, Kenmore Mercy Hospital, Mercy Hospital of Buffalo, and others. You'll prob get to do more things and will see ppl from all diff socio-econ background. (UB has 2 campuses - North which is in a suburb called Amherst and South which is just inside Buffalo city)
3. Not sure what NYMC is like, but UB has the organ based teaching thing. Team taught, and the teachers from what I?ve heard are really helpful and they eat lunch with the students and stuff.
4. you have the facilities and resources of a big university while being at med school - ie. concerts that the undergrads put on (fall and spring fest), gym, like 7 libraries, hi-tech and very wired, lots of research going on, etc.
5. 24/7 wegmans and tops
6. 20 mins south of Niagara Falls
7. jet blue goes there from JKF daily
Not trying to sell UB, but just some things to consider.
Hope that was helpful. 🙂
