has anyone who interviewed on the first or second week of February heard anything from New York Medical College (NYMC) yet? They tol dus 10-12 weeks, but I thought maybe they started making decisions already.

It's getting late in the application process already.

hi, i interviewed about that time and recieved my acceptance in the mail over the weekend. i hope this helps and goodluck to you!

I interviewed the second week of February and haven't heard anything yet.

pixye1-what date did you interview on? I interviewed on the second week of Feb. and haven't heard anything yet. ANy idea on when they stop accepting people?

I interviewed the first week in feb and still nothing.

does anyone know when they stopped interviewing? and maybe how filled the class is already?

They haven't stopped interviewing yet. My friend interviewed there yesterday. As for how filled the class is, I have no idea.

are they interviewing for waitlist spots or regular spots? I thought that students have to hold only one spot by May 15. Poeple interviewing now won't hear from NYMC until July. How can they make a decision if they don't even know where they are accepted to?

I guess those people just have to choose another school for the time being and drop them if they get accepted later on.

That is my understanding of how it works as well. Having only one acceptance doesn't mean that you can't have a whole bunch of 'still waiting to hear's. 🙁

Back to the thread topic: I interviewed 2/19. I still have not heard anything, and my mailing zipcode is virtually right next door, so no mail delays. :scared:

Good luck to everybody! 👍

Good news here. I interviewed the second week of February and got my acceptance today!
Still waiting for Einstein though 🙂

audioslave-congrats on your acceptance. Will you be attending NYMC in the fall?

Also, what does it say on the NYMC website for you? Does it still say pending committee decision or does it say decision mailed?

So my friend that interviewed at NYMC yesterday said that they specifically said that they were NOT interviewing just for waitlist spots so apparently they are still handing out acceptances or so they say.

They also told him it will take 10 weeks which will put him into July. How can they still be deciding in July. Shouldn't that be illegal?

Thanks littledoc! It feels great to have my first acceptance. I will be attending NYMC only if I get rejected by Einstein and don't get into Downstate off a waitlist. Good luck to you - hope you get in. Keep us updated.
The NYMC status page is horrible - they don't update it. It still says "pending..."

Hey all,

I'm a first year at NYMC. When I interviewed in January of last year, they told us 12 weeks and that's how long it took them. I believe they stop interviewing this month... at least I haven't seen any black suits scurrying around campus all confused of late. 😉

Good luck to all! PM me if you have any NYMC questions.

Oh yeah, they'll continue accepting right upto the first day of classes. Considerable movement on the waitlist.

I just think it is so rude of the schools to keep us waiting this long. There is no way they need 12 weeks to make a decision. A month maybe I can understand, but 3 months, that's just wrong. Especially for people who haven't been accepted anywhere, to have to wait until July for a response just isn't fair. NYMC is one of my top choices and I just can't wait for a decision already.

By the way, audioslave, who did you interview with at NYMC? How did you feel after the interview? Did you think it went well?

Here's another one for audioslave since we're asking you questions...

Could you let us know when the web site does become correct for you? I'm guessing it updates every weekend or so. I ask because my current roommate isn't too trustable with the mail, and I'm afraid that if anything came it might have gotten lost. 🙄 Fortunately NYMC is the only school that knows this address for me. 😀

The website continued to tell me my decision was "pending" well after I'd gotten my acceptance. 🙄

Hi guys,

@littledoc: I will not name my interviewer by name (his initials are R.B. - PM me if you wanna know exactly who). The interview was unlike any that I've had in that it was not conversational. The doctor kept asking questions, one after another, and seemed rather detached and disinterested. The questions had nothing to do with ethics but since he gave me no time to relax, it was a bit stressful. The only thing he said that was not a question came at the end - "you're obviously a well-rounded guy." So based on that, I thought the interview went OK.

@wanderbray: I'll be happy to let you know when the website starts displaying the correct status.

I don't know if this is of any help, but here it goes. Overall, from doing research on this site while I was waiting, I got the impression that NYMC tends to send out acceptances on Tuesdays, about 9 weeks after the interview. The waitlists, though, seem to take longer - about 11 weeks.

did anyone else get this impression about NYMC? that they accept after 9 weeks and waitlist after 11?

Did you know that 63.4% of all statistics are made up? 😛

Wether its true or not, I wouldn't let a thing like that freak you out. You might have more luck reading the coffee grounds in the bottom of your cup. 😉

Wasn't true last year. I got accepted straight up, three or so months after my interview (in Feb). One of my classmates was interviewed a week before I was, and he got his acceptance two weeks later.

i guess that makes me feel a ltitle bit better. I jsut don't understand why it takes 3 months to decide on a candidate. I understand one month, but three? come on!!!!

Zweihander-was your acceptance sent out on a tuesday also?

Just keep in mind that after 11 weeks is also after 9 weeks.

On another note, today is my 11 week anniversary after my interview at NYMC. I'll let you know if I get anything this week.

All I can tell you is that it was on a weekday, 'cause my mom called me at work to let me know. I have no recollection of what actually day of the week it was though, sorry...

thanks for all of your help. everyone else-keep us posted if you hear anything.

Just got my decision from NYMC. It's been a bit over 11 weeks and I got the waitlist. So I guess I support the theory that 9 weeks means accepted and 11 means waitlist or rejection.

I'm planning on taking myself of the waitlist soon anyway. Good Luck to the rest of you.

now I am getting nervous. Next tuesday the 27th will be my 11 week anniversary from my interview. I am scared that since I didn't hear anything on the 9th week, then I will get waitlisted on the 11th week, or worst rejected.

I dont think they reject any interviewees...they either accept or waitlist, which in my opinion sucks big time....I also got the waitlist in 11 weeks

I can disprove your theory: 9.5 weeks (mid-Feb interview) --> rejection. Not sure what I did wrong on the interview...not my top choice, though, so it's all good.

EDIT: This disproves Columbia22's theory, too.

lots of schools unfortunately take months and months to make a decision.
a lot of people apply to nymc and that could slow them down...
the frequency of when the adcom meets can also be a factor in the timeliness of accepting students.

just keep up your faith and hope for the best!
good luck.

I interviewed April 12. The Assistant Dean informed us that they have sent out enough acceptances to fill the class as of that time. However, according to her, they continue to send out acceptances right to the very end of their interview season. Appearanltly, alot of people rescind the offer. Hope this helps to anyone waiting for a reply. Also, from what I've heard their waitlist moves alot as well.

Do you guys know whether or not schools know where you are holding seats at this point? I feel like some schools may waitlist you if they know you are holding a seat at a better school. Any thoughts?

i got waitlisted too and i got the letter about 9 weeks after my interview. i got my waitlist around the same time others who interviewed at that time received acceptances. i don't think there's an actually scheme here.

Hi guys, I just wanted to let you know that in my case they updated the page when they received the acceptance terms and conditions I signed and mailed back to them. So the page says "04/23/2004 Decision Letter Mailed" instead of having the date from like one and a half weeks ago when they actually mailed the letter.
Good luck everyone!

Received today... 10.2 weeks after interview --> waitlist 🙁 (And my interviewer said .. you will have some options, but keep us in mind ...) .... Anyone else feel like trading x number of waitlists for Mao Zedong's favorite method of torture. At least with the latter, you know what to expect.

Interviewed Feb 26th.

And just found out through a letter from their financial aid office that I got in! 😀 (about 8-9 weeks after I interviewed)

Unfortunately I haven't recieved the main packet yet? 😕

But then again, I'm out in California... Maybe the USPS is faster than that courier service they use

Good luck to everyone still waiting out there!

I just heard a few days ago, and got the fin aid letter and the acceptance package on the same day 😀 They still haven't changed the website though, I am still pending committee decision. I interviewed 2/24. So it was about 8 1/2 weeks for me. I agree though this is ridiculous to wait so long, do dart games really last this long?

Who else is nymc class 08?

For those of you who were waitlisted, how many will actually go there if taken off the list? Or for those of you were accepted, how many will actually go?

well, i'm on two waitlists and, if accepted to both, i'll go to the other one. but, it would be a long shot and i think i have a much better chance of getting into nymc. in that case, i will definitely go if i get off the list.

For those who are still curious about timing:
My acceptance letter was sent on a Friday, which, it turns out, was 9 weeks + 1 day after I interviewed. My on-line status was updated 6 days after the letter was sent.

One thing of note: They did not send it to my updated address!! It was sent to my old address!! If you haven't heard from them and you changed your address, please check your mail at the old address. According to admissions, they have my current address on file and not my old one!
😱 😕 😡 🙄

Go figure

It took me like 6 weeks to hear back from them. They actually sent it to my mother (permanent address on AMCAS) she calls and said there is a big fat envelope from NYMC do you want me to open it. That means she has opened it and wants to know if I want to hear the good news🙂 Just kidding.

Funny thing is that NYMC is so open about how slow they are. In fact my interviewer said that I would come up at committee the next day but that I wouldn't hear until maybe may or june (heard may 1st). Of course I suppose I could have checked the website but forgot my login info and was afraid to call because I was afraid it would look like I was sloppy (which I kinda am) 😱
I think all the website info just serves to get premeds that much more nervous seeing as how many probably will check it everyday. Instead of updating their website maybe they could just like work on getting those fat envelopes out faster.

I'm on the waitlist too and hoping for a miracle. It's been like 4 months now 😱

Received my acceptance today, 9 weeks to the day after interviewing. They sent it to my permanent address, too.

Good luck, kiddos!

I just got my acceptance to NYMC today. I interviewed 3/1. The website for me has not been updated, so I don't know if that means anything. Now I have to make a decision: Drexel or NYMC?

What kind of envelope does the acceptance letter come in, just out of curiosity?

heard back today. waitlisted=( interviewed 3/4.

I interviewed 3/11, still havent heard anything.
